2011/12/3 15:59:24 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy will resign from her post on Sunday.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday. The hour long meeting chaired by Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana was attended by Ministers J Geetha Reddy, Danam Nagender, P Sabitha Indira Reddy, M Mukesh Goud, city MLAs and other leaders. The Mayor herself was present in the meeting. The Congress party has decided to honour the power-sharing pact it had with Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and asked Karthika Reddy to submit her resignation on Sunday.
As per the deal the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen had in 2009 after the GHMC polls, the Congress candidate would hold the Mayor's post while the Deputy Mayor's post was given to the MIM corporator. The parties had then decided to would swap and retain the new posts for the next two years. The same swapping of posts would happen in the last year of GHMC's term.
Mayor Karthika Reddy tried in vain with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other Congress leaders to stay on the post for one more year. The MIM was keen on enforcement of post-poll deal with the Congress. The MIM wanted its candidate to be elected to the post of GHMC Mayor while vacating the Deputy Mayor's post for the Congress party.
Several MIM corporators are lobbying hard to become the next GHMC Mayor. The strong contenders for the post include present Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj, former Mayor Mir Zulfeqar Ali, ex-chairman of Standing Committee Mohammad Nazeeruddin and Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala's younger brother and Pathergatti corporator Mohsin Balala.
Similarly, the Congress party too has many contenders for Mayor and Deputy Mayor's posts. They include Minister Mukesh Goud's brother Madhu Goud, GHMC floor leader K Venkatesh, Harshvardhan Reddy and Sunita Prakash Goud.
However, the election of new Mayor might take place only after two weeks. The GHMC Council will have to accept Karthika Reddy's resignation and hold fresh elections for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. (INN)
2011/10/21 7:41:13 Intense lobbying by GHMC Mayor Banda Kartikha Reddy seeking an extension of her term for one more year appears to have been successful.
According to sources, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has agreed to allow Kartikha Reddy to continue on her posts for another six months. Similarly, Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj of MIM will continue on his post. The swapping of Mayor and Deputy Mayor's posts between the Congress and MIM would happen in May 2012, instead of December this year.
As per the original agreement the parties had after the elections of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the Congress and MIM would share the Mayor and Deputy Mayor's posts on rotation basis. The Congress and MIM was to hold the Mayor and Deputy Mayor's posts respectively for the first two years and the last year in five year term of the GHMC.
However, following change in political conditions both the parties have reportedly agreed to share the posts for two-and-a-half years each. Sources say that as per the fresh understanding, both the parties will continue on their posts and the swapping will take place in the month of May next year. Although the Congress will lose six months of its stake on the Mayor's posts, it will able to avoid a major crisis in the city Congress. Similarly, the MIM is happy that instead of two years it will be able to hold the post for an additional six months.
Although this decision is yet to be announced officially, the same has been conveyed to prominent corporators of both the parties. They have been asked to continue regular functioning as there would be no change in the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the next six months.
Meanwhile, the members of GHMC's Standing Committee on Friday had an informal meeting and decided to constitute 15 sub-committee with each dealing with specific subjects like sanitation, street lights, town planning and health. The sub-committees will be chaired by members of Standing Committee. This is for the first time that sub-committees have been formed in the GHMC and the move is aimed at pleasing all the GHMC corporators. (INN)
"I adore him as a an artiste. But I hate him as a human being". That was the exact expression used by Shivaji Raja, charcter artiste at a press conference called by him at old FNCC Club premises a few years ago. He called for the press conference to precisely nail comedian Bramhanandam on some issues. After a few days the comedians in Tollywood came together under the leadership of AVS, they together accused Bramhanandam of belittling several artistes and insulting small actors in the industry.
The major issue raked up was about the funds collected by Bramhanandam to install a statue of all time great comedian Relangi at a place in Film Nagar.
As this washing of dirty linen between comedians continued, some wise man approached Dasari for help.
Dasari then called for a meeting to sort out matters. At the meeting Brahmanandam, brought the bust size statue of Relangi to show that he was sincere in his desire to install the statue. And he would utilize all the funds collected for the purpose.
This drama took place 8-10 years ago. The funny part of the story begins now. Where is the statue? Has it been installed somewhere secretly?
If the statue has not been installed where are the funds? Has everybody concerned forgotten all about the fund collection and Relangi statue installation. Is there at least a part of the fund still left?
The chief minister Y S Rajashkear Reddy had publicly stated that the government would consider favorably any proposal made by the family of late P Janardhan Reddy for a suitable memorial for him in the twin cities. YS asked the family members to discus the issue and suggest a suitable place for the memorial.
Senior congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumahta Rao has suggested to the chief minister to install as statue of PJR opposite IMAX on the necklace road. The chief minister assured him that the government would consider the proposal and take a decision after due consultations and also after a taking legal opinion.
It is ironic that the proposal to install his statue near IMAX has been made. PJR had been fighting all along that IMAX has been built violating all norms and it has also been built on the Husian Sagar lakebed.
The TRS has demanded the government to install a statue of the late professor Jayashankar.
The TRS has asked the government to set up a grand and befitting memorial for the professor in Hyderabad. The TRS also wants the Ekasila Park in Warangal to be named after Jayashankar.
