    Anything for the job...

    2008/3/2 2:00:38

Mithun Chakraborthy did not wash his hair for ten days while shooting for Ashu Trikha's Zindagi Tere Naam. Mithun, who plays a 65-year-old musician, had applied hair whitener. However, since he was shooting one of the most crucial scenes for the film in Dalhousie; he did not wash the hair so that he could maintain the continuity in the film. Mithun said that if he applied whitener again after washing his hair, the audience will make out that the grey patches in his hair are different every time.

Ashu Trikha says, "We had to use hair whitener for Mithunda as he does not have grey hair. However, as we were shooting close-ups he said that he couldn't wash his hair or else the film's continuity would suffer. When he got to know that we will take eight days to shoot the entire sequence, he told me that he wouldn't wash his hair so that the grey areas in his hair look exactly the same in every shot."

That's perfection, Mithunda! No wonder you have survived in the industry for more than 30 years.

Why Emraan has long hair in Awarapan

    2007/6/11 5:57:07

Did Emraan Hashmi grow his hair for Awarapan? At a recently held press conference of the film in London, he was seen in a similar get-up as in Awarapan, compelling people to wonder whether that was going to be his new look in perpetuity.

We are told that Emraan has actually worn hair extensions but they've been so well designed that they look natural, and seamlessly go with the rest of his hair. To get the right fit, Emraan would take hours to get these on before his shots. Laughs director Mohit Suri, "Yes, Emi has worn hair extensions in Awarapan. It took him longer to get them on than the time the girls took to get ready!"

Maybe the extensions will be off once Awarapan releases on June 29!

    Bipasha's snazzy new look

    2006/6/14 7:43:51

Bipasha Basu returned from London on Monday night after completing the shooting of Ashtavinayak’s next film directed by Abbas-Mustan.

For the first time since she came to tinsel town, the actress is sporting a short hairstyle. Here, her stylist Sapna Bhavnani from Mad O Wot salon in Bandra talks about the actress’s new look, which she styled for an upcoming film.

    Bips experiments

Says Sapna, who has been cutting and styling Bipasha’s hair for more than two years, “Bipasha is very willing to experiment and is always playing about with her hair colours and styling. More than three weeks ago, she came to me and said she wanted a shorter hairstyle for Abbas-Mustan’s new film.

She could have worn a wig but one can always make out that it’s a wig. So I suggested a shoulder length, feminine, cute, Lolita-kind look in dark brown. Blonde shades don’t suit her, but darker shades like burgundy and jet black go perfectly with her skin tone.”

Aren’t there two looks for the film? “Yes, one is a longer hairstyle with these super-long hair extensions and the other is the shorter hairstyle. She had the same long hair for Dhoom 2, but the colour was different. In Dhoom 2, Bipasha has coloured her hair in copper and red. ”

Chiru, a Mega Star on a high pedestal

2006/11/13 4:17:00 Chiranjeevi had proved himself as a Mega Star and remained a king of Telugu film industry. He had also bagged one of the highest civilian awards among his contemporaries like 'Padma Bhushan' and very recently he was honoured with a doctorate by Andhra University. There is no need for him to cash in on his image now as he is earning a handsome income with each film. He had recently accepted to remain a brand ambassador for a company called Hinani for there product named Navratan Oil. There is no need for him to promote and act as a model for hair oil or for that matter for a soft drink. No one will have any objection if he wants to promote a hair oil company or a soft drink but he is not supposed to say the dialogue that those who use that product will become like him. He is on a high pedestal and no one could attain such a status just by using a hair oil product or by drinking a softdrink. Hope the ad designer makes a suitable change in the promo.

    Bipasha Basu – the 'bob'shell

    2008/2/7 21:57:02

Bollywood bombshell Bipasha Basu has got the new bob look that is making many heads turn.

Bipasha has done it again. In her words, she was “bitten by a bug” to experiment with her hair again. After getting her hair chopped from long tresses to shoulder-length last year, the Bengali beauty has now gone for a still-shorter bob cut.

Bipasha reportedly got the cut from her trusted hair stylist Sapna Bhavnani a few days back. Since Bipasha had no shoots pending and no concern for maintaining continuity in any of her upcoming movies, she decided to let her hair go under Sapna’s confident scissors.

After the first session, Sapna gave Bipasha a cute bob cut that made her look very sweet and bubbly. But Bipasha wanted something out of the ordinary. So she had another session with Sapna. This time, Sapna gave Bipasha a chic, stylish and a tad punkish bob cut. Bipasha loved this cut and retained it.

Apparently, the new cut is inspired from the hair-do of Bipasha’s favourite style icon, pop singer Rihanna.

Bipasha made her first public appearance in her new haircut at the MTV Roadies – Race event in Mumbai on Tuesday night along with actor Saif Ali Khan . The tie-up is a unique way of promoting her upcoming film Race .

At the event, Bipasha looked absolutely stunning in a dazzling yellow outfit that went along perfectly with her bob cut. How well the new cut looks on her was evident from the eyeballs Bipasha attracted at the event.

In fact, some of Bipasha’s friends have already begun calling her ‘Bobby’.

    VAT increase is must: Govt.

2011/9/15 4:44:00 The State Government on Thursday clarified that the floor rate of Value Added Tax has not yet been increased from 4 per cent to 5 per cent. However, the Chief Minister Office issued a release explaining the consequences of delay in increase the lower slab of VAT by one per cent.

According to CMO release, the Central Government has been compensating the States for the loss of revenue on account of reduction in the rate of CST from 4 per cent to 2 per cent. However, in order to reduce its burden, the Centre has been advising the States to raise the floor rate of VAT by one per cent. Eleven States including Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka have already raised the rates from 4 per cent to 5 per cent.

Andhra Pradesh has not yet increased the floor rate. The rate of 4 per cent was first imposed when VAT was introduced on April 1, 2005. No change has been made in this rate for the last six years.

The Central has been giving compensation to States for reducing CST from 4 per cent to 2 per cent. Recently, the Centre has informed Andhra Pradesh Government that the compensation payable would be reduced by the amount of revenue that could be gained by raising VAT from 4 per cent to 5 per cent, even if we have not raised this rate. During the year 2010-11 alone the deduction made by the Central Government on this account has been Rs 1089 Crore. In addition, the State Government has been losing an equal amount due to non-increasing of the floor rate of VAT. So, effectively Andhra Pradesh has been losing over Rs 2000 Crore every year by not raising the floor rate of VAT.

The CMO reminded that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in a recent statement wherein he said that Andhra Pradesh is double loser by delaying in increasing the lower slab of VAT by one person. However, analysts say that Thursday's clarification by the CMO is an indication that the government was just preparing the ground to increase the VAT in the next few days. (INN)

Jaya alleges tax authorities harassing her

    2007/12/1 6:31:54

Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan today alleged that the service tax authorities humiliated her family seeking details on expenses on wedding of her son Abhishek with fellow cine star Aishwarya Rai earlier this year.

"I received notices from tax authorities who wanted to know how much amount was spent on beauty parlour and flower decoration on marriage of my son," Jaya Bachchan, the Samajwadi Party member told the House.

During a debate on a bill seeking Parliamentary approval for supplementary demands for grants, she complained in the name of service tax, people were being harassed over expenses incurred on marriages of their children.

The actress-cum-politician said since she was herself humiliated, she can empathise with others who may have faced harassment at the hands of tax authorities.

Several members including Janata Dal (United) Chief Sharad Yadav and Brij Bhushan Tiwari (SP) supported Bachchan saying the government was following a "pick and choose" policy for ensuring tax compliance.

Yadav said while those doing small-time jobs like beauticians and hair dressers were asked information, this was not the case with big-time industrial houses like Ambanis and Vedantas.

"Questions like how much you spent on your gardener and hair stylist as pointed out by my party member is a case of harassment in the name of service tax which has not been clearly defined by government," Tiwari said.

    She's got the look!Sushmita

    2007/10/10 23:02:01

Sushmita Sen usually travels to New York for a haircut. Now, for the first time, she has got herself a new look, right at home

After she was crowned Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen had her haircut in India only twice. Until last year, Sushmita always had a haircut from New York. When it was time for her next haircut, she stayed back home and got it done.

Bollywood and television’s favourite hairstylist Perri Patel was called to Sen’s residence in Bandra on Sunday. He took an hour to give Sen a new look.

Our source said, “Sushmita had got her hair styled by Perri, last year. She was very comfortable with him and loved the haircut he gave her. She had received tremendous compliments for it then.”

Perri and Sushmita kept in touch, but since Sushmita doesn’t like to keep her hair very short, she did not call for Perri’s services for a year. Perri had not met her personally after he had given her a haircut a year ago, though they were in touch occasionally.

Perri was pleasantly surprised when Sushmita called him last week. “It was a pleasant surprise when she said that she was ready to have a haircut at home,” Perri says.

Describing Sushmita’s new haircut, Perri says, “I have given Sushmita a disconnected crown cut. It’s a slice from the centre to the hairline to form spiral layers. It’s a brand new look. She is looking very good.”

“Sushmta doesn’t get her hair cut very often. That gives the chance to the hair to grow and a hairdresser can really experiment and meet the desired look easily,” he said.

Perri has shut his salon and is freelancing now. “Of late, I have been freelancing a lot. I travelled with the unit of Cash to Cape Town. Then, lately I have been busy with Ajay Devgan’s film, U, Me Aur Hum. So, I am getting a lot of work and enjoying myself.”
