Leaders use 'Rakhi' strings to convey political message
Like many festivals, Raksha Bandhan too is gaining political significance every year.
In a politically charged atmosphere, where two siblings – Telangana and Seemandhra are on the verge of separation, the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with religious fervor in Hyderabad. In addition to the customary practice of school children tying Rakhi to Governor Mr. ESL Narasimhan ,there was lot of Raksha Bandhan-related political activity.
This year GHMC Mayor Ms Banda Karthika Reddy tied Rakhis to Chief Minister Mr. N.Kiran Kumar Reddy and also to the Governor. She also tied Rakhi to PRP chief Chiranjeevi, Ministers Danam Nagender, Mukesh Goud and Maheedhar Reddy and Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav.
Members of Mahila Vibhag of the Telugu Desam Party and Ishwari Brahmakumari Kumari Samajam tied Rakhi to the TDP Chief Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu at NTR Trust Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu promised that his party would strive hard for the economic development and well being of women in the state. He said that during NTR regime women were accorded 9% reservations in local bodies, which has increased to 50% now, the credit for this goes to NTR and added that his party has promised to provide 33% reservations to the women in legislature.
TRS MP M. Vijayashanti tied Rakhi to TRS President Mr. K Chandrasekhar Rao at the latter’s residence on Saturday. At this occasion, they hoped that Telangana state would soon become a reality.
BJP and other political parties too have organized Raksha Bandhan celebrations at their respective party offices. (INN)

New Delhi, March 12 (IANS) Television actress Rakhi Sawant Monday visited parliament on the first day of the budget session, saying she wanted to see how it works.
"No one invited me. I just came to meet the MPs. I've come to see parliament, to see how it works and how our leaders are working," she told reporters.
"I've come to convey the message to (Congress chief) Soniaji (Gandhi), on behalf of all the people and women that there should be something for women in the budget and it should be fair to everyone," she said.
Advising yoga guru Baba Ramdev not to dub all politicians as "thieves", she said he should do yoga and not abuse others.
Appearing on a reality show last year, Rakhi had expressed her desire to marry Ramdev. She also said she admired Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Yet another skeleton is out of Rakhi Sawant's cupboard. Rakhi was once secretly married to a guy from Millat Nagar (Andheri). The marriage took place in 2004, soon after she shot her music video Pardesia with T-Series. The man in question had financed that video to a large extent, and if sources are to be believed, his name is Ashraf.
The marriage lasted for barely two-three months. Ashraf was accused of fraud and landed up in jail. Also, Rakhi found out that he was married and had a kid.
A source close to Rakhi, confides in us, "Ashraf used to come on the sets. He used to bring a kid with him. A few people told Rakhi that he could be the father of the kid. The doubts were raised because the man was around 35 years old, and it was quitepossible that he had a kid. But Rakhi chose to ignore all the warnings. She was smitten by him."
"Also, Rakhi thought that he had too much money. At home, he would keep a bag full of currency notes of high denominations. After she married him, she found out that only the topmost bundle of notes was real, and all the other bundles were fake. The marriage took place in Ashraf's flat and a freelance photographer Kishan clicked the pictures of the wedding," says another source.
"When her husband was arrested, Rakhi went to see him in jail. His family often asked Rakhi for money. Poor Rakhi would be in a fix. She had been taken for a ride and she just didn't know what to do. We don't know how she cut off ties with him but he is definitely not part of her life any more," the khabroo adds.
When contacted, Kishan confirmed that he was witness to Rakhi's secret shaadi. He says, "I did click pictures of Rakhi and her groom, but Rakhi's mother took away all the pictures from me. I don't know what her agenda was, but I have no pictures left with me. Also, I don't know where Ashraf is. I have no contact with him."
On date, Rakhi is dating Abhishek Awasthi, who is partnering her in Nach Baliye 3.

Mumbai, April 4 (IANS) Rakhi Sawant has found a fan in actor-filmmaker Sohail Khan, who admires the item girl for her hard work and talent.
Rakhi appeared on the special episode of "Kahani Comedy Circus Kii" and Sohail couldn't stop heaping praises at her and appreciated her for what she is today, said a statement.
"Everyone hates Rakhi or says bad things about her because they are jealous of her. You are what you are today all because of your hard work and determination," Sohail told Rakhi on the show.
Rakhi also thanked him for his words of appreciation.
Contrary to her onscreen image, Rakhi Sawant is a deeply religious person.
For some time now, Rakhi has been very interested in Christianity. She is an avid reader of the holy Bible and she visits church on Sundays with her mother.
Apparently, Rakhi’s interest in Christianity arose because of her mother Jaya who has been practicing the religion for the last three years or so. Not just Rakhi, even her brother Rakesh is very interested in the life of Lord Jesus Christ.
Rakhi’s mother says whenever Rakhi is down and dejected she turns to the Bible for inner strength.
Recently, when she was dropped from the TV show Bigg Boss, Rakhi read Bible at her home for hours to feel calm and serene within.
Rakhi regularly visits the Good Shepherd church at Four Bungalows, in Andheri, with her mom. She wanted to pray at the church on Christmas but she has now gone back to the Bigg Boss’s house.

Mumbai, April 18 (IANS) Rakhi Sawant says she went unnoticed when she entered showbiz but adding spice to her professional life brought her into the limelight.
"When I came in the industry, I had no godfather. I moved ahead in life, I stumbled many times but no one saw it... When I saw no one is looking at me, I learned that people want spice and then I became Rakhi Sawant," the 33-year-old said here.
Rakhi, who is popular for her controversial banter and spicy item numbers, has a word of advice for those who want to make it big in any field.
"One should not leave the main goal in life. Once you get success, you should not go crazy with happiness. You must think that there is one step ahead of success also and that is how you should keep working," Rakhi said.

Item girl Rakhi Sawant on Saturday said she has been receiving indecent SMSs and threat calls from some unidentified miscreants.
Confirming the news report appeared in some sections of media, Rakhi said, ''Yes I have been getting indecent SMSs and threat calls for the past four days. I do not know who these people are and why they are making such calls.'' ''They use extremely filthy language. They have even said they know my family and they will harm them,'' she said.
''I get about 49 to 50 missed calls every day. Because I do not take their calls, I have not reported the matter to the police.
I am busy right now. I quietly leave home and come back from work,'' Rakhi added.
Mumbai, April 17 (IANS) Controversy queen Rakhi Sawant, who is said to be upset with southern star Dhanush for cancelling a performance with her at the last minute, says the singer-actor must have felt threatened by her.
"Actually he thinks that he can't dance and he thought that I will overshadow him. That's why he did this, but I love his song," the 33-year-old said on the sidelines of an event here.
Rakhi is said to have been angry with Dhanush for cancelling a performance where he was supposed to perform with Rakhi on "Kolaveri di".
However, Rakhi has now forgiven Dhanush, whose hit bi-lingual song has crossed over 50 million hits on YouTube. She now hopes to work with him in future.
"I love Dhanush and Rajinikanth. I don't want to comment on him because I really liked his song. Whatever he did to me, it's okay. I have forgiven him," said Rakhi.
"He even called me later and said that he didn't have time, so he couldn't make it. ... Maybe it's because his film was also going to release, but he said that next time he will do it," she added.
Rakhi was last seen in an item number in the film "Loot". Her TV show "Gajab Desh ki Ajab Kahaaniyan" kept her busy in 2011, and she also made an appearance on the finale of "Bigg Boss 5".

When told that no bigwig from Bollywood was willing to share TV space with Rakhi, Bhansali retorted: 'Karan should've asked me. I'd have happily gone. If I can appear with Mallika, why not Rakhi?'

Rakhi, who will join the ensemble cast comprising Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher, who plays a corpse, and Mobhano Modi-Kotwal, had no inhibitions about doing the film.
"Rakhi has no item songs and no striptease element in 'Buddha Mar Gaya'. I'm glad I found her to play the role. I can't think of anyone better," said Rawail.
Memories of the 26/7 deluge are still fresh in Rakhi Sawant’s mind. “It was as if the sea had descended into the city. The cars parked in my area were almost floating,” shudders the item girl.
But this time, she has decided to take matters in her own hands. “I’ll be holding a morcha in front of my building (Serenity Complex) from May 27 to address the water logging problem here. I don’t want to see any flooding this time,” says Rakhi, adding that her society had convinced her to participate in this movement.
“Last year, most kids in this area suffered from malaria because of the stagnant water. Since I have attained a certain fame, I think I’ll be able to help people who need me,” she adds.
Though celebrities often run into controversies when they take up some public cause, Rakhi says she’s determined to succeed in her endeavour. “I will even go on hunger strike if my demands are not met,” she vows.
Rakhi admits that its the local problem that has forced her to take a stand. “I am not lucky like Shah Rukh who has a bungalow and can afford to stay cocooned in it.
Probably if I had been living in a posh area like Bandra, I wouldn’t have needed to join a morcha like this.”

Rakhi Sawant' and 'controversy' are the words that have become inseparable. The item girl has become famous mainly due to her controversies than for her performances. She recently appeared on the celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan where she confessed to Karan that controversies just keep happening with her.
And now, the item girl is in the middle of another controversy for hurting religious sentiments of Buddhists. Apparently, Rakhi Sawant was shown in a bath tub against the background of a Lord Buddha statue on a TV show. A group then protested against the show and also burnt effigies and shouted slogans against her.
A case was also been registered against Rakhi in the Amaravati district of Maharashtra for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Buddhists.
Nagpur: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Nitin Raut and his supporters burnt an effigy of item girl Rakhi Sawant in front of Deekhshabhoomi on Wednesday as she has allegedly hurt the sentiments of Buddhist community. The actress was seen in a TV show as having put an idol of Lord Buddha in her bathroom. Following this, a complaint was registered against her in Amravati.
Raut and his supporters gathered in from of Deekshabhoomi, where the effigy was burnt after chanting slogans against Sawant. However, Raut and his team also drew flak of those visiting Deekshabhoomi on the occasion on Buddha Pournima.
As the effigy was burnt in front of the gate, a Buddhist monk and others looked in despair from the other side. Sanghraj Patil of the Deekshabhoomi Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee said, "I had requested Raut not to do this in from of this place. It violates the sanctity of such this zone, but he did not heed to our pleas." Said Biskhu N Suyash, a monk who came out due to the commotion: "This is not proper. If he (Raut) had a grudge against Rakhi Sawant, she should be approached directly or the demonstrations should have been held at the Collector's office or some other place."
"It was at this very place where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had spread the message of peace and equality and today it is such a scene here. Buddhism teaches tolerance and not a retaliaiton like this" said an enraged I N Vanzari, who had set up a free water kiosk there.
Harshavardhini Patil, a senior citizen, said Rakhi Sawant must have done wrong, but this is not the way to protest. Another woman Rekha Patil expressed strong ire against Rakhi Sawant and supported the incident. "We revere Lord Buddha. Even if somebody does not believe in the religion, others' sentiments cannot be hurt," she added.

Comedy Ka Badsshah — Hasegaa India has been conceived and produced by the Optymystix duo of Sanjiv Sharma and Vipul D Shah, who earlier produced shows like Ye Meri Life Hai and the first season of Indian Idol (both Sony). Vipul is also the director of the comedy show.
The show also has a hilarious segment — Hamari Bahu Rakhi. Incidentally, Rakhi’s boyfriend, Abhishek Awasti, also featured in some episodes of the show.
Adds the onlooker, “It is just harmless wooing by Raju, but Rakhi is taking great offence to it. Basically, it is a creative difference. There are no ego clash involved.”
On the eve of Sankranthi festival, Governor ESL Narasimhan has conveyed his greetings to all the people of the State.
