One killed, three injured in bus-auto collision

One person was killed three others injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a CRFP bus here on Monday.

The accident happened near Midhani Township when the auto-rickshaw carrying three passengers was hit by a CRPF bus coming from the opposite direction. Consequently, one person died on the spot and was later identified as Sai Kiran (30). The injured were rushed to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

Kanchanbabh police registered a case and are investigating. (INN)

    Four killed in car-auto collision

    2011/10/31 8:12:53 At least four persons were killed on the spot and four others sustained injuries when a car had a head-on collision with an auto-rickshaw near Virupanna Cheruvu in Kottacheruvu in Puttaparthi mandal here on Monday.

    According to police, the deceased have been identified as Narayana, Ganganna, Varalakshmi and Baby Pujitha. All the injured have been admitted to Government Hospital in Dharmavaram for treatment. The condition of injured is stated to be critical, according to hospital sources.

    The police said that the accident took place when the car heading towards Puttaparthi from Dharmavaram lost control and collided with an auto rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. (INN)

    2012/3/11 5:30:06 Three persons including two women were killed and five others suffered injuries when a tractor and auto-rickshaw fell off a bridge after having a head-on collision.

    The incident happened on Edulavanka bridge on Sindupalli and Rayavaram road of Kadapa district on Sunday. According to police, the tractor was carrying sand and it fell on the passengers after both the vehicles fell off the bridge. The deceased include tractor driver Ganapati. The other victims have been identified as Pavalamma and Jayamma.

    Five other passengers of auto-rickshaw suffered injuries and were shifted to the government hospital at Rayachoti for treatment. The condition of two passengers is said to be critical. (INN)

    2012/5/1 7:02:22 Kurnool, May 1 (INN): At least nine persons were killed on the spot when a Toyota Qualis had a head on collision with an oil tanker near Velugodu Reservoir in Kurnool district on Tuesday.

    According to police, the victims include four women and a girl child. The victims belonged to a village near Bengaluru of Karnataka. The identity of victims is yet to be ascertained, police said. A few others, who were injured in the mishap, were shifted to Government Hospital in Velugodu.

    According to police, the mishap took place when the Qualis car heading from Velugodu to Atmakur in the Nallamalla forests in the Kurnool district had a head-on-collision with an oil tanker.

    Six killed as bus rams into auto

    2011/6/3 9:44:19 Six persons, including three women and one child, were killed on the spot and five others sustained injuries when a State Road Transport Corporation bus collided with an auto-rickshaw near Chittiboinapalli in Chittoor district on Friday.

    According to Gurramkonda police, the mishap took place when the RTC bus, heading towards Gurramkonda from Rayachoti rammed into the auto-rickshaw heading towards Cheruvulapalli from Gurramkonda mandal.

    All the six persons who were on board the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot. The mishap left five others with grievous injuries.

    The victims have been identified as N Reddymma (29), A Santhareddy (34) A Venkatamma (40), C Jyothi (15) and M Ramaiah (60). The identity of one victim was yet to be ascertained.

    All the victims have been shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for post-mortem. Among the injured, the condition of a few is stated to be critical.

    The mishap took place when a private bus heading towards Hyderabad from Coimbatore lost control and hit a stationary lorry near Gummallakunta. The collision was so intense that the front portion of the bus got complete damanged. The deceased include bus driver Yesupadam, conductor Anand, two Ayyappa devotees and two women.

    The injured passengers have been shifted to RTC Hospital at Battanapalli. The condition of two injured persons is said to be critical and they have been shifted to the Government Hospital in Dharmavaram.

    Police have registered a case and efforts are on to identify the deceased. (INN)

    2011/9/21 2:02:20 One auto-rickshaw driver was killed and several others injured when they were hit by a RTC bus after the driver lost control due to the failure of breaks.

    The mishap occurred on Wednesday morning at Krishna Nagar near Yousufguda crossroads. According to police, the bus driver lost control due to break failure and hit the auto-rickshaw and other vehicles parked on the roadside.

    According to police, the deceased has been identified as Mallesh. The police have shifted all injured to Osmania General Hospital and their condition is stated to be out of danger. The mishap took place when the RTC bus was heading towards Kondapur from Secunderabad.

    Irked over the incident, the local people stoned the bus. The bus driver went absconding after the accident from the scene.

    According to sources, the bus driver was hired on temporary basis due to the RTC employees participating in the general strike. The accident is believed to have occurred due to poor maintenance of bus and lack of understanding of driver of city traffic. Yousufguda police have registered a case. (INN)

    2011/11/28 8:37:33 (IANS) At least 15 people were killed and 57 injured early Monday when two private luxury buses collided in Maharashtra's Buldana district, police said.

    The accident took place around 3.30 a.m. on the Mehkar-Sultanpur stretch of the Aurangabad-Nagpur highway, around 300 km from here, when most passengers were sleeping.

    "The vehicles caught fire after the collision and at least 12 passengers were burnt in their seats," Mehkar Police Station head B.I. Suryawanshi told IANS.

    The injured, of whom 20 are reported to be serious, have been rushed to the Mehkar civil hospital.

    "The buses belonged to Royal Travels and Soni Travels. One of them was coming from Nagpur and going to Pune while the other was going to Nagpur," Suryawanshi said.

    Locals rushed to assist and helped shift the injured to hospital. The identity of the victims is being ascertained.

    2011/10/17 8:43:20 In a suspected case of hit and run, a one-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured near Shamshabad bus depot here on Monday.

    The woman, who has been shifted to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment, has been identified as Devi, a resident of Mahaboobnagar. Police suspect that they might have been hit and run an unknown vehicle.

    Blast in Peshawar

    2011/9/19 20:33:04 At least five people were killed and 34 others were injured Monday night in a bomb blast at a market in northwest Pakistan's Peshawar city.

    The explosion occurred around 9.00 p.m.

    The bomb was planted on a motorcycle outside a CD shop next to the Nishtarabad road, Xinhua reported citing Geo TV.

    The blast damaged about 20 shops.

    The injured were shifted to the city's Lady Reading Hospital. Five of the injured were in critical condition.

    Police said about 10 kg of explosives were used in the explosion.

    President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the attack.

    Earlier Monday, eight people, including six policemen, were killed in a suicide car bomb attack outside a senior police officer's house in the southern port city of Karachi.

    The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

    20 injured in bus-lorry collision

    2011/9/8 4:05:35 At least 20 persons sustained injuries when an APSRTC bus collided with a stationary lorry near Rampalli in Keesara mandal in Rangareddy district. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday.

    The police said that the mishap took place when the RTC bus of Kushaiguda bus depot coming from Rampalli RTC colony in Kesara mandal to Secunderabad hit the stationary lorry laden with cement bags from the rear side. In the mishap, the front portion of bus was completely damaged.

    Most of the passengers were reportedly asleep when the accident occurred. The injured were immediately rushed to the Gandhi Hospital for treatment. The condition of three injured passengers is said to be critical.

    Police said the mishap took place due to bus driver’s negligence. However, police registered a case and started investigations. (INN)

    At least Ten people were killed and 85 injured as a EMU train rammed a stationary passenger train near Arakkonam junction in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district Tuesday night, officials said, adding the casualty figures were not confirmed and could change.

    The accident occurred as the Chennai Beach-Vellore electric multiple unit train hit the Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger train that was waiting for a signal near Arakkonam, around 85 km from Chennai, at around 9.30 p.m. At least five bogeys were thrown off the tracks in the collision.

    Though Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said the toll could not be confirmed yet, Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal said at least seven people were killed and 85 injured, citing information from the spot. Police at the spot and Vellore MP Abdul Rehman had earlier spoken of 15 killed.

    However, the figures could change, Mittal said at a briefing along with the minister in Delhi.

    Terming himself "disturbed" over the incident, Trivedi said he was leaving for the accident site, along with Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, the Railway Board chairman and other board officials, by the first available flight Wednesday morning.

    He also announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs.5 lakh for the dead, Rs.1 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs.25,000 for the others.

    Trivedi refused to speak about the cause of the incident, noting it could not be ascertained yet.

    "We do not know what exactly had happened... these things take time. But we will not leave any stone unturned," he said.

    Noting the driver of the train that hit the stationary train was alive and being treated, he said the driver could tell them on what happened as soon as he was in a condition to do so.

    He said he ordered a breath-analyser test of the driver but it came out negative.

    Mittal also announced that the rescue efforts at the spot had concluded, and all the trapped passengers had been rescued and admitted to hospital.

    Efforts to rescue people trapped in the wreckage had been hampered by the darkness and heavy rain in the area but rescue teams, with the necessary equipment and aided by local people, had completed the task, officials at the spot said.

    According to Tamil Nadu Police's Inspector General (Northern Zone) Shailendra Babu, police and fire brigade teams had reached the spot soon after the accident.

    The injured were taken to various hospitals in Vellore while teams of doctors had also reached the accident site.

    The railways have set up some helpline numbers for aid of the kin of the passengers. Some of the numbers are 044-25352629, 044-25347771, 044-25350308 and 044-25353988.

    Meanwhile, some trains passing through Katpadi have been cancelled while some others have been halted at different places. (IANS)

    2012/4/26 3:14:01 Tirupati, April 26 (INN): At least six persons were killed on the spot and seven others injured when the Qualis they were travelling in rammed into a roadside tree near Mamandur in Renigunta mandal on Kadapa-Tirupati National Highway in the wee hours of Thursday.

    According to police, the victims have been identified as Venkateswarlu, Chennaiah, Buddaiah, Narayanamma, Alluraiah and car driver Ravi. All of them belonged to Prakasam district.

    The victims board the Qualis vehicle at Errabalem in Giddalur mandal in Ongole to attend a marriage in hill shrine Tirupati. It is suspected that the accident has occurred after the driver lost control on his vehicle while overtaking another vehicle at Mamandur and hit a roadside tree.

    The injured have been shifted to SVR Ruia Hospital in Tirupati and a few of them are said to be in a critical condition.

    2011/9/29 7:42:12 Five labourers were killed and six others were injured in a building mishap here on Thursday. All the deceased and injured hailed from Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

    The incident happened at around 3.30 pm on Thursday when the labourers fell down from the 11th floor after a bamboo scaffolding of a building Siddhivinayak Towers in the Mumbai suburb of Bhayandar, collapsed.

    The deceased have been identified as Raju, M Govind, M Naresh, Machappa and Chinappa. They were natives of Kernapally and Chetnapally of Mahabubnagar district. Originally they are farmers, but have migrated to Mumbai as labourers about 15-days ago. (INN)

    2011/10/15 9:07:38 At least six people were injured, two of them seriously, when a RTC bus lost control and hit many vehicles on the busy Banjara Hills Road here on Saturday evening.

    The accident happened when the RTC bus - AP-10 Z-5981 of HCU depot lost control near Pension Office on Banjara Hills Road No 12 and hit one Omni Van, one Maruti 800, one auto-rickshaw and three bikes before coming to a halt. The bus was coming from Kondapur and going toward Koti. The driver fled from the spot after the accident. Source said that the driver was hired by the RTC management due to the on-going general strike.

    2011/9/21 3:47:40 Labour Welfare Minister Danam Nagender has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to next to kin of auto-rickshaw driver Mallesh, who was killed when a RTC bus driver lost control and hit his auto at Krishna Nagar in Yousufguda on Wednesday morning.

    The minister went to Mallesh's house and consoled the family members for the unfortunate accident. He announced Rs 5 lakh compensation and a government job to one of family members. Apart from Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia, he also announced Rs 5 lakh to victim family members on behalf of the Greater Hyderabad Congress. He said that action would be taken against the driver responsible for the accident.

    It may be recalled that an autorickshaw driver Mallesh killed when a Kondapur bound bus driver coming from Secunderabad lost control on his vehicle due to break failure and hit the auto at Yousufguda in the morning. (INN)

    Auto bandh from Friday midnight

    2011/9/22 8:18:27 Over 50,000 auto-rickshaws in the Telangana region would go off the roads for 48 hours from Friday mid-night.

    The Telangana Auto Drivers Unions' JAC has called for a 48-hour auto bandh to express solidarity with the Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike for the cause of Telangana.

    According to TRS Labour wing president L Roop Singh Roop Singh said that thousands of auto-rickshaw drivers would participate in rallies and dharnas on September 24 demanding statehood for Telangana. An auto-rickshaw rally will be organised on September 25 which will culminate into a public meeting at Indira Park. (INN)
