11 TRS MLAs suspended from Assembly for two days

Eleven MLAs of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) were suspended from the State Legislative Assembly for two days for disrupting the proceedings of the House here on Wednesday.

As soon as the House met on Wednesday at 9 am, Telugu Desam Party gave an adjournment seeking discussions on liquor scam. The TRS and BJP wanted the House to introduce Telangana resolution. While the MIM wanted debate on issuing of job notifications in Urdu language, the CPI stressed for discussion on drought situation and CPM wanted the regularization of IKP employees.

However, Speaker Nadendla Manohar's decision to disallow all the adjournment motions led to pandemonium and furore. The Speaker then adjourned the House for half-an-hour.

Similar scenes were witnessed when the House re-assembled at 11.30 am. The TRS members rushed to Speaker's podium demanding Telangana resolution. Having failed to convince the TRS members to resume their seats, the Speaker asked Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasad to move the resolution for suspension of 11 TRS MLAs for two days. Despite suspension, the TRS MLAs refused to leave the House and were evicted by the marshals.

Later, the BJP and CPI MLAs staged out a walk-out in protest against the suspension of TRS members. (INN)

TRS condemns Speaker for MLAs' suspension

2012/2/17 2:04:11 Telangana Rashtra Samithi Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao on Friday condemned Speaker Nadendla Manohar’s action of suspending 12 TRS MLAs from the Assembly, who demanded that the government move a resolution on Telangana state in the House.

Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, Harish Rao said that the government instead of responding to Telangana MLAs' demand, it forced the Speaker to suspend the TRS MLAs from the House and violated all democratic rights of elected representatives. “Before hanging a person, the jail officials will ask for last wish of a person. But the Speaker suspended the MLAs without giving a chance for them to explain their position,” he said.

Harish also condemned the silence of Congress MLAs and Ministers when the Speaker was suspending the TRS MLAs from the House. He said that the TRS MLAs are asking the government to make its stand clear on Telangana and when it would move a resolution. Warning the government of serious consequences if it failed to move resolution, he said the people of region would teach a fitting lesson to MLAs and Ministers for betraying the interests and aspirations of people.

The TRS leaders accused the TDP Telangana Forum MLAs of match fixing with the Congress for not attending the Question Hour on Friday.

Condemning the Speaker’s "unilateral action", another TRS MLA Pocharam Srinivas described it as `Black Day’ in the history of assembly session. Terming it as unfortunate, he criticized Minister D Sridhar Babu, who hailed from Telangana region, for moving a resolution of suspending TRS MLAs from the House.

He warned the government of serious consequences if it failed to move a resolution in on-going assembly session. (INN)

Speaker asks for verification of pro-Jagan MLAs signatures

2011/8/26 8:45:31 Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Friday instructed the Assembly Secretary to verify the signatures of 29 MLAs who have submitted resignations in protest against the inclusion of YSR's name in the FIR registered by the CBI against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy's disproportionate assets case.

The Speaker, who attended the office in the legislative assembly premises on Friday, took decisions on several issues which remained pending due to his officials tours. Regarding the anti-defection case against TDP MLA N Prasanna Kumar Reddy, the Speaker has asked him to appear in person on Aug 29th (Monday) at 4 pm. He is facing the charges of defecting to Congress party after being elected on TDP ticket. Sources say that the Speaker may pronounce his ruling on Monday.

Sources say that the Speaker Nadendla Manohar has also initiated the process of studying the fresh resignations submitted by the Telangana leaders. Meanwhile, suspended TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy along with his colleagues visited the assembly premises on Friday and distributed red roses among the staff and security personnel seeking their support for the Telangana state. According to sources, the fresh resignations submitted by the Telangana MLAs were also under the active considerations of the Speaker and he might take a decision soon.

Regarding pro-Jagan MLAs, the Speaker has asked the Assembly Secretary to verify the MLAs' signatures on the resignation letters with the original ones. Sources say that the Speaker might take a decision by next week. The Speaker has also decided to remove the Assembly Media Point with immediate effect. However, the same would be active only when the assembly is in session. (INN)

This enraged minister and brother of YS Rajashekar Reddy YS Vivekananda Reddy. He went to the TDP MLAs and tore up the placards. He was not satisfied with this and he grabbed MLAs Chintamaneni Prabhakar and Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu.

2011/11/28 15:31:45 Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Monday accepted the resignations of four more MLAs - all rebels of Congress and Telugu Desam Party.

The resignation of former minister Jupally Krishan Rao representing Kollahpur assembly segment has been accepted. The other three MLAs whose resignation has been accepted are T Rajaiah (Station Ghanpur), Gampa Goverdhan (Kamareddy) and Jogu Ramanna (Adilabad).

While Gampa Govardhan and Jogu Ramanna were elected on TDP tickets, Jupally Krishna Rao and T Rajaiah won the 2009 assembly elections on Congress tickets. Recently they resigned from the parties to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

With the acceptance of these four resignations, the total number of vacant assembly seats in the State Assembly has touched seven. Resignations of MLAs Nagam Janardhan Reddy (Nagarkurnool) and Prasanna Kumar Reddy (Kovvur) were accepted by the Speaker last week. While Nagam was suspended from the Telugu Desam Party after he joined the Telangana bandwagon, Prasanna Kumar first joined the Congress and then shifted his loyalties to the YSR Congress party.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has rejected the resignations of 61 MLAs of TDP and TRS who put in their papers demanding separate statehood for the Telangana region. However, the Speaker is yet to take a decision on the disqualification petitions of MLAs who joined the YSR Congress party from the Congress, TDP and the Praja Rajyam Party. (INN)

After about three minutes, following pandemonium, Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House for half-an-hour.

Similar scenes were witnessed when the House re-assembled at 10.35 am. Having failed to convince the TRS members to resume their seats to take up regular business, the Speaker asked Legislative Affairs Minister D Sreedhar Babu to move a resolution to suspend TRS members.

TRS MLAs slam Speaker for suspension

2012/2/22 2:42:26 Telangana Rashtra Samithi floor leader Etela Rajender on Wednesday alleged that the suspension of 11 TRS MLAs from the House for two days by Speaker Nadendla Manohar proved that the Assembly belonged to Seemandhra people.

Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, he said that although Speaker suspended 11 TRS members from the House, both ruling and opposition parties should make efforts to move a resolution on Telangana state in the House at least now. He said that the TRS would take the suspension of its MLAs before the people and exposes the ruling Congress and TDP stand on the statehood issue.

Etela asked as to why the Congress and TDP were not responding on the statehood issue despite the TRS assurance that it would cooperate with the Speaker to run the House harmoniously.

Stating that the people of region would teach a fitting lesson to both parties in the ensuing by-elections, he said Congress and TDP would be completely wiped out from the region for cheating the people on statehood.

TRS MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that Telangana people are aspiring for separate State as major injustice has been done to them in the united Andhra Pradesh. He criticized the Congress and Telangana Forum members for not opposing the suspension of TRS MLAs from the House.

Describing the Congress and Telangana Forum members as `traitors of Telangana’ , he said that the people would teach a fitting lesson to them in the upcoming by-elections.

TRS leader N Odelu warned TDP MLA Motkupalli Narasimhulu of serious consequences if he fails to stop 'malicious campaign' against TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. (INN)

T Cong. MLAs give shock to TRS

    2011/3/14 0:54:20

The MLAs and MLCs of the congress party from Telangana have been boycotting the assembly session for some time now. With members of the TRS and the TDP from Telangana too boycotting the session, the proceedings have been conducted sand any representative from Telangana.

The T Congress MLAs and MLCs have now decided to end their boycott and attend the Assembly session. This comes as a big jolt to the TRS. The TRS has been successful so far in uniting all the Telangana legislators but with the latest move, the TRS stand has been diluted a lot.

    Vijayamma attends assembly

2011/12/5 6:51:39 More than six months after she was elected from the Pulivendula assembly segment, YSR Congress party honorary president YS Vijayamma attended the Legislative Assembly session here on Monday.

Vijayamma was elected on May 13 in the by-elections and took oath as MLA on June 3. But she did not attend a single session since her election. However, in view of the No Confidence Motion on Monday, Vijayamma came to the assembly for the first time.

Earlier, the YSR Congress party held a meeting at Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's residence at Banjara Hills with the MLAs supporting it. As many as 16 MLAs attended the meeting and announced that they would vote in favour of No Confidence Motion. Meanwhile, sources say, that Jagan is presently enjoying the support of at least 19 MLAs in the assembly. (INN)

No Trust Motion puts Jagan in tight spot

2011/6/2 5:51:21 After a long period of trying to outmanoeuvre each other, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu may have managed to bell the proverbial cat and get the better of YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy by his decision to introduce a No Confidence Motion against the Congress government.

Mr Naidu’s decision, in all probability will leave Mr Jaganmohan Reddy exposed and force him to reveal his true strength, or lack of it.

On paper, the Congress looks likely to defeat the No Confidence Motion to be introduced by the TDP convincingly.

Officially, the Congress has 155 MLAs of its own, besides the 18 MLAs of the Praja Rajyam Party. Apart from this, it also has the support of seven MLAs of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. On paper, this would give the Congress the support of 180 MLAs in the 294 Member Assembly.

Officially, the Telugu Desam Party has 91 MLAs, after the resignation of Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas being accepted earlier.

Besides this, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has 11, the Communist Party of India has four, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) one, the Bharatiya Janata Party has two, the YSR Congress Party and the Lok Satta Party has one each.

Two Independent MLAs complete the 294 Member Assembly.

The Congress has served four MLAs notices for anti-party activities, so has the TDP to an equal number of its Members (Mr Pocharam Srinivas’s resignation was however accepted).

The TRS house itself is beset with problems after the party suspended three MLAs for cross-voting during the Legislative Council elections.

The PRP has issued notice to two of its MLAs, but one Member pledged his loyalty to the party and the show-cause notice was withdrawn.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy needs the support of 147 MLAs to defeat the No Confidence Motion.

However, the TDP, by introducing the No Confidence Motion, has forced the hands of the YSR Congress Party, which has been claiming to have the support of a major chunk of MLAs.

The YSR Congress Party leaders, though unwilling to publicly declare the number of MLAs supporting it, have claimed that the number could be anything from 20 to 70 MLAs.

The Congress is said to be confident that if all said and done, at least 150 Members will repose their faith in the government, even if the 27 MLAs who have been spotted at different times with Mr Jaganmohan Reddy vote against it.

By introducing the No Trust Motion, Mr Naidu has more or less forced Mr Jaganmohan Reddy to either expose his strength or keep quiet

Govt whip meets Speaker over rebel MLAs

2012/1/30 15:50:18 Government whip Kondru Murali on Monday stated that Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar assured him that he would initiate action against 16 Congress MLAs, who defied the party whip and voted against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government during the no-confidence motion in the State Legislative Assembly, in the next two days.

Talking to media persons after meeting the Speaker seeking disqualification of rebel MLAs, Kondru Murali said that he had explained the reasons as to why the party was seeking action against MLAs and produced all evidences in this regard.

He said that the Congress party has served whip directly to 13 MLAs and the remaining three MLAs – Chenna Kesav Reddy, Kapu Ramachandra Reddy and Prasad Raju - were given the whip through telegrams and notices were also pasted at their residences. He said the Congress will never withdraw the petition against rebel leaders and wants their disqualification. (INN)

Nagam plays high drama for resignation approvals

2011/10/1 7:03:33 Suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy along with three other TDP MLAs - Harishwar Reddy, Jogiramana and Venugopal Chary locked themselves in a cabin near the Speaker Nadendla Manohar peshi in the State Legislative Assembly premises on Saturday.

They announced that they would not come of the cabin unless the Speaker accepts their resignations. The assembly staff and security personnel were both surprised and shocked by this novel protest, especially at a time when the Speaker is not in town. The local police is not empowered to enter the premises unless asked by the Speaker and the assembly staff on their own cannot evict the MLAs.

Earlier, talking to reporters Nagam said a member of the legislative assembly he has a right to resign to his post and it would be unconstitutional to reject his resignation if it was submitted in the correct format. However, Nagam said the Speaker has been delaying the decision on their resignations for a very long time, which was unprecedented.

The former minister also clarified that he did not resign to enforce by-elections and re-contest from the same seat. "We have resigned from our posts to create constitutional crisis so as to pressurise the Centre on announcing statehood for Telangana region," he said. Nagam asked the Political and Students JACs to pressurise all the elected representatives from the region to resign afresh so that pressure could be mounted on the State and Centre Governments. CM Kiran's Progress Report

    2011/4/14 3:31:15

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has managed to complete 100 days in office. However, his record is not that satisfactory.

    1. Kiran could not stop the TRS agitation from going out of hand.

    2. The desecration of statues at Tank Bund during the ‘million march’ is on of his biggest failures.

    3. Kiran has also failed to stop the rise and rise of Jagan. Kiran despites trying hard could not stop the MLAs from siding with Jagan.

    4. Kiran also failed to stop Jagan’s candidates from winning in the MLC elections. Jagan managed to win three seats.

    5. Kiran watched helplessly as the TRS and BJP MLAs ran amok during the governor’s address in the assembly.

    6. Kiran could not stop the MLAs from Telangana from boycotting the assembly for some days.

    7. Kiran also has not impressed with his style of functioning. The ministers do not listen to him, the MLAs too do not give him the respect that is due to a CM.

    8. Kiran is also not comfortable with the bureaucrats as he does not trust anyone nor does he share his thoughts with anyone.

    9. Kiran also cannot take decision quickly. As many as ‘3,000’ plus important files are pending and begging for his attention.

Kiran now faces the biggest test of all. He now has to stop Jagan from winning in Kadapa. The by poll is a litmus test to Kiran and a defeat means he will come under fire and may even cost him his seat.

TRS to nominate ex-MLAs for by-polls

2011/12/12 14:30:23 The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has given clear indications that it would nominate former MLAs who joined from the other parties as its official candidates for the by-elections.

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday appointed four former MLAs as the in-charge of constituencies that they represented earlier. While Jogu Ramana was made incharge of Adilabad assembly seat, Gampa Goverdhan will be incharge for Kamareddy, Jupally Krishna Rao for Kollahpur and T Rajaiah for Station Ghanpur constituency.

These MLAs have recently resigned from the TDP and Congress to join the TRS. They have also resigned from the assembly membership which necessitated by-polls in these constituencies.

It may be mentioned that the TRS nominated Pocharam Srinivas Reddy from the Banswada assembly seat in the by-election which he earlier represented as TDP MLA. He got elected from the seat in the by-elections held in October this year. (INN)

'Jai Telangna' dominates 'Jai Hind' in legislative assembly

2011/8/15 2:32:53 For the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the hoisting of national flag was followed by slogans of 'Jai Telangana' and not 'Jai Hind'.

The Independence Day celebrations in the legislative assembly premises were marred by protests by the suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy who tried to hoists Telangana flag along with the national flag Tiranga. Tension mounted when Janardhan Reddy tried to reach the corridor where Assembly Speaker N Manohar was to hoist the Tiranga. Nagam was holding a national flag, as well as Telangana flag, in his hands. However, a police official swung into action and snatched both the flags from Nagam's hand before he could proceed further.

Soon after the recital of national anthem, Nagam started raising Jai Telangana slogans. However, he also shouted 'Jai Bharat' once or twice, but it was 'Jai Telangana' slogans than dominated the flag hoisting ceremony at the assembly premises.

Later, Nagam asked Speaker as to why he was not allowing hoisting of Telangana flag. He also complained that the Speaker was not available to meet Telangana legislators and also rejected their resignations. Reacting to Nagam's compalint, the Speaker gave an appointment to Nagam and three other MLAs at 2 pm on Tuesday to discuss the resignation issue.

Speaker trying to suppress Telangana voice: Nagam

2011/8/27 7:50:12 Suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Saturday indirectly accused the Speaker Nadendla Manohar of trying to suppress the voice of Telangana.

Talking to reporters, Nagam criticised the Speaker's decision to remove the Assembly Media Point from where the elected representatives of different political parties used to speak to the media. He said the removal of media point would create problems for the politicians like him who due to suspension could not go to TDP office or after resignation is accepted could not come to the Assembly Media Point to speak to the media.

The ex-TDP leader said the Speaker must have made some alternative before deciding to scrap the Media Point. He said former MLAs would find it difficult to approach the media to convey their opinion on matters of public importance. The major reason for removing the Assembly Media Point was to suppress the Telangana voice, he said.

Nagam also criticised the Congress MPs Lagadapati Rajagopal and K Samabasiva Rao for serving privilege notice to BJP leader Sushma Swaraj for her remarks on Telangana that she made in the Lok Sabha recently. He said anti-Telangana leaders were not leaving any efforts to suppress the Telangana voice at all levels.

Regarding the on-going CBI probe against Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in disproportionate assets case, Nagam said YSR's political advisor KVP Ramchandra Rao played a major role in all the corrupt practices of YSR and Jagan Mohan Reddy. Therefore, the CBI must bring him under the ambit of it ongoing investigation, he demanded.

The suspended leader said that the Speaker is likely to take a decision on his resignation by Monday as all processes involved have been completed. (INN)

Nagam questions validity of Speaker’s decision

2011/7/25 4:10:08 Suspended Telugu Desam Party leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Monday cast doubts about the validity of Speaker Nadendla Manohar’s decision to reject the resignations of the MLAs from Telangana, saying that the elected representatives had put in their papers `voluntarily’ and without any force or due to the emotionally surcharged atmosphere.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Mr Janardhan Reddy questioned why the Speaker chose to inform his decision that “the resignations were rejected as they had been submitted in an emotionally surcharged atmosphere,” through a press note before leaving for London.

“I suspect that the Speaker took this decision (of rejecting the resignations) as the Congress party would have lost its majority in the House,” the senior politician said.

Stating that the four members of his group have already sent their resignations through fax on Sunday, Mr Janardhan Reddy stated that they would again send their resignations in a sealed cover, following instructions given by an Assembly employee.

Mr Janardhan Reddy also questioned why the Congress and Telugu Desam Party Members from Telangana region were dillydallying and convening meetings on resubmitting their resignations to the Speaker.

“The TDP and Congress MLAs must stop their meetings and resubmit their resignations for the cause of separate Telangana statehood immediately,” the suspended TDP leader demanded.

He also challenged Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to put behind him bars for questioning the Speaker’s unilateral act of rejecting the resignations.

Mr Janardhan Reddy also disclosed that he would observe a ‘deeksha’ on July 28 in Nizamabad district for achieving statehood for Telangana.

He also questioned the Congress leaders for celebrating the ‘flag hoisting festival’ in villages on July 27. “On what basis would they be organising ‘flag hoisting festival’? Is it for achieving Telangana or for their failure to do so?,” he asked.(INN)
