AK Khan violated Legislators’ rights

Suspended Telugu Desam Party leader from Telangana Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday alleged that Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan has violated the rights of elected people representatives by not allowing them to visit the venue of hunger fast staged by Osmania University students at Arts College in the campus.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Mr Janardhan Reddy condemned the attitude of the city Police Chief in arresting the elected representatives who had tried to visit the students’ hunger fast camp without permission.

He advised Mr Khan to change his attitude and stop arresting people’s representatives.

The senior politician also questioned why Mr Khan was resorting to forcible arrests when the elected representatives wanted to visit the hunger fast camp of students in Osmania University and why permission was denied to them in the first place.

Mr Janardhan Reddy further described Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad statement that a unanimous resolution was necessary for the formation of separate Telangana state as `meaningless’ and `unfortunate’.

He wondered what was the need of a unanimous resolution when the people are seeking the division of the state. “Why have the leaders have not sought opinion of people during the integration of state? Mr Janardhan Reddy questioned. (INN)

SHRC seeks report on boys’ illegal detention

2011/6/17 3:11:53 Taking suo motu notice of media reports that two boys were handcuffed and kept in illegal detention by the Hanamkonda police, the State Human Rights Commission on Friday issued a notice to the Warangal Superintendent of Police.

The SHRC, taking a serious note of the violation of child rights, directed the district SP to submit a comprehensive report by July 18 on the incident.

The two boys, A Ganesh of Vijayawada and MA Aman of the district were nabbed by the police when they were attempting to break into a house at Kumarpally of Hanamkonda.

The police had handcuffed the two boys and kept them inside the Hanamkonda police station without producing them before a juvenile Court as required by the Law.

The boys claimed that they had been in illegal detention for two days.

However, this claim has been contested by Hanamkonda Deputy Superintendent of Police Veeresham, who said that the two boys had been handcuffed since they ‘have a tendency to escape.’

Mr Veeresham further said denied that any child rights had been violated and said that the two boys had been shifted to a juvenile home.(INN)

No permission for Yadireddy’s funeral procession, TPJAC calls for bandh on 22Jul

2011/7/21 9:56:19 Telangana Political Joint Action Committee has called for Telangana Bandh on July 22, ”for violation of Telangana Martyrs rights and for imposing Essential Services Maintenance Act on the Telangana employees, who are going for strike from August 1.”

According a statement released to media, the TPJAC called for Telangana Bandh in protest against government fascist attitude and for violating the employees’ rights.

The TPJAC’s allegation that the government has violated the rights of Telangana Martyrs came in light of reports that the state government has refused permission to take the body of Yadireddy, who committed suicide for the cause of Telangana in New Delhi, in a procession in Hyderabad.

The statement said that Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Telangana Congress, Telugu Desam Telangana Forum, Telangana People’s Front and breakaway group of Telugu Desam headed by Nagam Janardhan Reddy have extended full support to the Telangana Bandh.

The TPJAC called upon students, employees and Telangana activists to participate actively in the bandh and make it a grand success.(INN)

Rs 88 crores deal for Om Shanti Om

    2007/4/24 4:02:37

That Shah Rukh Khan is the undisputed badshaah has been proved yet again. Extremely passionate about movies, every film starring the King Khan automatically makes news. The latest development pertains to his home-production Om Shanti Om, being directed by choreographer-director Farah Khan.

Reportedly, Adlabs has bought the worldwide rights of the film for a staggering amount -- Rs. 88 crores. Although everyone is tightlipped about the deal, a source from Adlabs denies that the company has offered that price to the producers of Om Shanti Om.

"We have evinced interest in acquiring the rights of this film. But you can't state that the negotiations are on since there's no move to that effect. Besides, the pricing [Rs. 88 crores] is not realistic," the source states.

With films being sold for astronomical amounts, a film starring SRK would only fetch a premium price as and when SRK decides to sell the rights. Let's await an official statement from the actor!

Shankar Rao raises objection over stone laying for Metro rail

2012/4/27 5:38:46 Hyderabad, April 27 (INN): Former minister P Shankar Rao on Friday raised serious objection over the government officials laying foundation stone for the construction of Hyderabad Metro Rail project without inviting the elected representatives.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, Shankar Rao alleged that the officials have violated the protocol by laying foundation stone for metro project without sending the invitations to 23 MLAs, 3 MPs and 150 corporators under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

Shankar Rao said that he would move a privilege motion against the State Government in the House for violation of elected representatives’ rights and for violation of protocol.

Stating that it would send wrong message among the people in the state, he said that he would appeal to Assembly Speaker to protect the rights of MLAs.

He said that he would also bring this notice to the Congress high command and seek explanation from the government.

TRS cautions Cong Legislators against rethink

2011/7/2 9:48:42 In the backdrop of intense efforts by the Congress High Command to convince the party Legislators to rethink on their decision to resign over the separate statehood demand, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Saturday cautioned the Congress Legislators that they would be the object of ridicule by the people of Telangana if they go back on their word.

Welcoming the Congress Legislators’ decision, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA from Siddipet Harishwar Rao said that he was confident that the ruling party Legislators would not go back on their announced decision to quit on July 4 for the cause of Telangana. “But in case they do go back on their decision, their names will be written among the ‘characterless’ figures in the region’s history,” the TRS leader said.

Mr Harishwar Reddy reminded that the Congress had fought the 2004 general elections with the TRS as its ally.

Responding to the comments by Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, the TRS MLA said that the party had already agreed in principle to the demand for separate Telangana but is now dithering on the issue.

“The Congress leaders must remember that the separate statehood issue was existing and the TRS was fighting for Telangana at that time, as it is today. The issue was alive then, and is alive now. The main issue has not changed. By going ahead with the alliance, they had supported the issue of separate statehood. If they go back on their decisions, then it is nothing short of a betrayal,” the TRS MLA said.

Mr Harishwar Rao added that if needed, the TRS MLAs would also resign in support of the Congress Legislators.(INN)

Nagam alleges Speaker conspired with SA leaders, resends resignations

2011/7/24 7:18:03 As expected, rebel Telugu Desam Party leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy re-submitted his resignation, along with his confidantes’, to the office of Speaker Nadendla Manohar, but not before unleashing a tirade at Mr Manohar’s decision to reject the resignations of Legislators from Telangana.

Mr Janardhan Reddy’s angry reactions was reflected by his description of Mr Manohar’s decision where he said that the action was `illegal,’ `arbitrary’ and `unconstitutional.’ For good measure, Mr Janardhan Reddy added that the decision was made after the Speaker conspired with the Seemandhra leaders and bowed down to their pressure tactics.

He further said that he would move a Privilege Motion against Mr Manohar for violating the rights of the Legislators and because he acted in a partisan manner.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Mr Janardhan Reddy opined that the Speaker’s decision would send a wrong message to the Telangana people that the Legislators resigned without being aware of the guidelines. “The people would think that they have been cheated once again on the separate statehood issue,” Mr Janardhan Reddy said.

“Despite clearly stating that we are submitting our resignations to fulfil the aspirations of the people, the Speaker has taken a unilateral decision and had refused to accept our resignations,” the suspended TDP leader said.

He also condemned the reason given by Mr Manohar for refusing the Telangana leaders’ resignations. Mr Manohar had taken a late night decision to reject the resignations of all the MLAs from Telangana, saying that the decision to put in their papers was emotionally taken.

Forgetting that acceptance or rejection of the resignations is the prerogative of the Speaker, Mr Janardhan Reddy demanded that the government suspend Mr Manohar from his post for misusing his official position and acting in favour of Seemandhra leaders.

The TDP leader also called upon Telangana Ministers to call on Governor E S L Narasimhan and press for acceptance of their resignations and suggested that all MPs from the region should sit in dharna in front of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar’s residence, pressing for acceptance of their resignations.

He added that he would file a petition in the Supreme Court challenging Mr Manohar’s decision after consulting legal experts and seeking action against him for violating their rights.

He also appealed to Muslim community members to support T agitation for protecting their Urdu language from Seemandhra leaders’ onslaught in the Telangana region.

Later Mr Janardhan Reddy along with Jogi Ramanna, Venugopala Chary and Harishwar Reddy sent their resignations to Speaker’s chamber.(INN)

    PRP faces Jagan threat

2010/12/21 14:25:01 The air of uncertainty in the state's political space is giving tense moments to Prajarajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi, as speculation is rife that a group of legislators are likely to part ways with it.

The presence of two PRP legislators A Maheshwar Reddy and Katasani Rami Reddy at Jagan's public meeting in Vijayawada on Tuesday lends credence to the fact that the party president had lost control on at least two of his legislators.

Though there is nothing anti-party activity in their presence at Jagan's meeting, political analysts hint at the possibility of a split in the PRP turning into reality once Jagan announces his party.

Party sources admitted that since Jagan's meeting was in support of distressed farmers, they could not view the presence of the legislators in the meeting as an act of indiscipline. "We have learnt from media that some of our MLAs were present at the meeting. But we cannot take cognizance of it as they have attended a programme in support of distressed farmers and not a party meeting. Though we are monitoring developments closely, we cannot do anything as of now. We will have to wait for some more time before thinking of any move," PRP sources said.

The sources however discounted the theory of exodus by PRP MLAs saying, "All MLAs are with us and have reposed their faith in the leadership of Chiranjeevi. The recent Assembly session is testimony to our unity."

Meanwhile, some of the party MLAs confided in private that there was every possibility of a split in PRP soon after Jagan announces his party, where the PRP president could be left with only six (including himself) of the party's 18 legislators.

No question of taking back resignations: Errabelli

2011/7/30 8:39:47 Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Saturday asserted that there is no question of his party Legislators taking back the resignations submitted for the cause of separate Telangana.

Talking to media persons at the TDLP on Assembly premises, Mr Dayakar Rao said that his party Legislators would meet on August 1, Monday and decide on the future course of action. The meeting would discuss on the chart to be adopted following the rejecting of the MLAs’ resignations by Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

The TDP leader also exhorted Legislators of the Congress party not to buckle under pressure being mounted on them by the party High Command and withdraw their decision of resigning.

“Go for talks with the High Command, if u must. But do not relent under the pressure and withdraw your resignations,” Mr Dayakar Rao told the Congress Legislators.

He also disclosed that a delegation of the TDP Telangana Forum will meet Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday and urge him to stop Sub-Inspectors’ recruitments until the controversial Clause 14 F is deleted from the Presidential Order of 1975.(INN)

T Cong Legislators begin hunger fast under pressure

2011/7/13 4:23:22 A day after warding off attempts by Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to withdraw their resignations, several Congress Legislators began their 48-hour long hunger strike at the Indira Park on Wednesday.

The Legislators, including MPs, Ministers, MLAs and MLCs, have launched the hunger strike with the stated purpose of highlighting the separate Telangana statehood demand. However, it is believed that the Legislators, who had submitted their resignations from their elected posts on July 4, had began their hunger stir after being alarmed that the Telugu Desam Party was walking away with the separate Telangana ‘accolades.’

It may be mentioned here that the TDP Legislators had outwitted the Congress Legislators on July 4 by handing over their resignation letters before the ruling party members. To add to the Congress Legislators’ discomfiture, the TDP Legislators had stolen a march ahead, by launching their Bus Yatra across the Telangana districts.

Adding to the Congress Legislator’s discomfiture, they were reported rapped by the party High Command for their resignations.

According to observers, the hunger fast has become necessary to keep the Congress Legislators in the limelight as they were starting to get gradually marginalized by the TDP and the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee.

Talking to media persons at the hunger fast camp, MP from Karimnagar Ponnam Prabhakar said that the 48-hour hunger fast was part of the Congress Legislators’ attempts to keep the intensified agitation for separate statehood sustained. Mr Prabhakar said that, “our ultimate goal is to achieve Telangana statehood by mounting pressure on the High Command.”

Mr Prabhakar further stated that the “agitation for statehood would continue until the Centre makes a concrete announcement on bifurcation of the state.”

MPs Gutta Sukender Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivek, Manda Jagannatham, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Rajaiah, Rajya Sabha Member K Kesava Rao, Ministers K Jana Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, D K Aruna, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, P Shankar Rao, D Sridhar Babu, Sudarshan Reddy, Basavaraju Saraiah were seen at the hunger fast camp.(INN)

I-T dept asked Kejriwal to pay dues of Rs 9 lakh

2011/9/1 22:00:24 Anna Hazare's chief aide Arvind Kejriwal was slapped a notice by the Income Tax department asking him to pay dues of more than Rs 9 lakh a week before the Gandian was to launch his fast and at a time when Team Anna was engaged in a high voltage clash with the government.

The I-T department -- that has still not accepted Kejriwal's resignation from the Indian Revenue Service tendered in February 2006 and continues to recognize him as a government servant -- has held that he violated bond conditions. His resignation, according to the government, can only be accepted once the dues are cleared.

Kejriwal has denied this contention saying he had not violated any conditions and questioned the timing of the notice which he said was being hastily pursued after a lull of over two years.

In a reply submitted on Thursday to the department, the anti-corruption campaigner said he had not violated any bond conditions. He said the bond he signed only said that he should not resign or retire during the period of study leave, stressing that he had not violated either of the conditions.

The I-T department has accused Kejriwal of not returning to government service after the sanctioned study leave. It has demanded that he return two years' salary amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh and interest accumulated so far of Rs 4.16 lakh. Kejriwal had also taken a computer loan of which Rs 50,000 was due and interest accumulated amounted to Rs 1 lakh.

In his reply, Kejriwal said, "I wish to state I have not violated any bond condition... The bond says that I will have to pay the penalty... in the event of my failing to resume duty or resigning or retiring from service or quitting service without returning to duty after the expiry or termination of period of study leave or failing to complete the course of study at any time within period of 3 years after my return from duty."

Kejriwal said he took study leave from November 1, 2000 to October 31, 2002 and joined back work on November 1, 2002. "I completed three years in October 1, 2005 and I resigned only in February 2006. There is no question of my violating any bond conditions," he said. He was on unpaid leave between 2004-2006.

He also said that communications had been sent to the I-T department asking it to cut the computer loan amount pending against his GPF. "I have in my correspondence to the department attached copies of my bank statements clarifying that I have no money and the dues can be recovered from my GPF. I have not violated any bond conditions but even if I have, the department has the power to waive off the dues as I have been working in public interest," he said.

Sailajanath refutes T leaders’ allegations, says Speaker within rights

2011/7/24 7:29:14 Dismissing the allegations levelled by Telangana leaders that Speaker Nadendla Manohar was acting in favour of Seemandhra leaders by rejecting their resignations, Seemandhra Forum convener S Sailajanath on Sunday said that Mr Manohar was within his rights and has not violated any norms by refusing to accept the resignations.

Talking to media persons here, Mr Sailajanath refuted the allegation by the Telangana leaders and said that Speaker rejected their resignations as per the guidelines laid in the Constitution. “He did not violate any norms and or act unilaterally as alleged by Telangana leaders,” he said.

He further stated that the Speaker’s decision should not be seen in a partisan manner.

The Seemandhra Forum convenor further stated that constitutionally created posts like those of the President, Governor and Speaker, were held by people from different regions and the persons holding these offices act as guardians of the Constitution. “They will not violate the Constitution at any time,” he said.

Expressing confidence that the Centre would find a solution to the controversial statehood issue, Mr Sailajanath said the problem could be solved only through consultation process between the people of Seemandhra and Telangana regions.

The Seemandhra Forum convenor further added that the leaders of all the three regions have already informed the Centre over the prevailing situation in their respective regions.

He hoped the Centre would take a favourable decision respecting the sentiments of all people.(INN)

    That's sum deal!

    2007/10/25 0:15:04

In the recent past, many actors have signed multi-crore multi-film deals, but Salman Khan has gone ahead and created a record of sorts. The enfant terrible of our filmi duniya has just reached an agreement with Ashtavinayaka films: Sallu will make a never-heard-of Rs 24 crore in his next.

These figures are difficult to digest even by Bollywood's latest standards. After this deal, Salman Khan has become the highest paid actor in the industry. Our source explains, “Salman Khan has signed Ashtavinayaka's new film for a whopping amount. While the maximum Shah Rukh has taken is Rs 3.5 crore per film, and the highest Hrithik has gone is a three-film deal with Adlabs for Rs 35 crores, Sallu has managed to walk away with a really meaty deal.” If reports are to be believed, Priyadarshan will direct the film.

Salman will, however, not get all the money at one go. It will be divided and will include his remuneration, 30 per cent of the profits that the film makes and money from music and satellite rights. Our source says, “According to the deal, Salman will get Rs 12.5 crore as his remuneration for the film, he will also be the 30 per cent partner in the profits generated (which will come from distributors). Salman will also get a 30 per cent share from the music and satellite rights of the film. The entire amount will be over Rs 24 crore. Not just that, he has also signed an agreement saying that 15 years after the release of the film, Salman will own, free and clear, the negative rights of the film.”

While Salman remained unavailable for comment, Parag Desai, the official spokesperson of Ashtavinayaka Films says, “Yes, we have definitely signed Salman for a film but we would not like to disclose our financial agreements. The film will go on the floors in mid- 2008 and the script, and the director is still being finalised.”

    Cong legislator resigns for Telangana

2011/9/23 23:10:02 A legislator of the ruling Congress Saturday resigned in support of the demand for grant of statehood to Telangana region.

    T. Rajaiah, member of assembly from Station Ghanpur constituency in Warangal district, faxed his resignation to the speaker. He also threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike in front of the assembly premises to press for acceptance of his resignation by the speaker.

Rajaiah's resignation is likely to mount pressure on other Congress legislators in Telangana to quit as the movement for a separate state gathered momentum with the ongoing 'people's strike'.

The development came close on the heels of the threat by Infrastructure Minister K. Venkat Reddy to resign and launch indefinite fast from Oct 2 if the central government failed to take a decision to carve out Telangana.

The Telangana Congress steering committee, comprising party legislators, MPs and other leaders from the region, has set Sep 30 as the deadline for the leadership to take a decision on the issue. Some of them have threatened to resign.

It may be recalled that over 100 legislators from Telangana belonging to various parties had submitted their resignations in July, demanding that the centre form a separate state. However, the speaker rejected all the resignations.

All 11 legislators of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and four rebels of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) submitted fresh resignations last month.

The TDP legislators have also agreed to resign Sep 28 but want their counterparts from the Congress to also quit along with them.

Boney Kapoor reportedly bought the Hindi remake rights of Telugu blockbuster 'Pokiri' at a fancy price of Rs 75 lakhs. It is surprising that the same rights for the Tamil film were sold at Rs 1.35 crores.

Earlier, rumours were agog that Ramgopal Varma had bought the remake rights, but it was proved that they were not with him any more. Another interesting feature is that the Tamil version, directed by Prabhudeva also received a similar response in Tamil also, with Vijay playing the hero.
