A petition, filed before the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court here has sought a ban on the release of Rohan Sippy's forthcoming movie 'Dum Maro Dum', which has raised much stink in the tourist state.
Savio Rodrigues, a media professional, who moved the Court has pleaded that the release of the movie should be banned as it will have a ripple effect on the state's tourism.
The petitioner has also said that the movie portrays Goa as a destination of sex, drugs and easy availability of women.
"The film is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2011 and given its publicity by the producers, the film will attract criminal minded tourists and offenders and drive away decent travelers and tourists from Goa," the petitioner said.
The bench will hear the petition on Thursday. It names State Chief Secretary, Chairperson Central Board of film certification, M/s Fox Star studios Pvt Ltd and M/s Ramesh Sippy Entertainment as the respondents.
Rodrigues said the movie is against public order, decency and morality and there is clear violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution of India to Goans.
The petitioner also stated that over a period of years, Goa has been receiving negative global publicity on account of issues relating to drugs, sex and murder in some cases of international tourists.
"Goa has been portrayed in media and in the said movie in particular so as to depict it as destination of drugs and sex, both of which are claimed to be easily and freely available in this state," it adds.
This wrong depiction is attracting and shall attract persons who are drug addicts, paedophiles, sex offenders, drug traffickers and persons engaged in trafficking of children and women, he claimed.
Former tourism minister Fransisco Pacheco also raised the issue during the ongoing state legislative assembly session.
Goa tourism minister Nilkant Halarnkar had told the House that the government will 'seriously' take up the issue with the producer.
2011/3/17 20:59:17 Bollywood hero Abhishek Bachchan has said that, he is experiencing the anxious moments of his life as his two high end films are all set to release in the next month. Both the films have created enough hype with their promos and both can’t afford to lose the game. The two games are his forth coming movies ‘Game’ and ‘Dum Maro Dum.’
While, his film ‘Game’ was directed by debutant Abihnay Deo and produced Ritesh Sidhwani, his other film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ is directed by Rohan Sippy and produced by Ramesh Sippy.
The players in this Game are Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranauth, Sarah Jane Dis and some others.
Film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ is a remake of yesteryear hero Devanand’s ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna.’ Abhishek Bachchan, Daggubati Rana, sex bomb Bipasha Basu, Depika Padukone, Kangana Ranauth, Dhilip Mehta, Prateik Babbar, Aditya Pancholi, Monti Munford, Goveind Namdev are in the star cast of this movie.
Game is all set to release on 1st of April and Dum Maro Dum on 22nd of April.
Is Neha Sharma, the heroine of Chirutha, better suited as an item girl? Yes, says Ram Charan. In a scene where the heroine is asked to sing a song, she goes into a dream sequence and plays a peppy number “ Maro… Maro… Maro…”.
And Ram Charan comments to her, may be half in jest but nevertheless it goes like this – “Nice dance baby, may be you should try for item numbers in films. You can even give Mumaith Khan a run for her money”.
The question is, is it what the director thinks about the heroine or is it simply a situation-based dialogue?
Bollywood sex bomb Bipasa Basu who arrived at Hyderabad to promote her Hindi film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ that she did with Rana, after launching the promo-items like mugs, T-shirts with film logo on them, has spoke to media in the press meet held at Taj Deccan hotel.
She said “Every artist in our film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ has his/her own importance in the film. The film doesn’t project any one in particular because the story is like that. Rana did a great job in this film. He speaks Hindi very well. He is very caring and friendly. I wish I would pair with him in many more films in future. Earlier, I have acted in a Telugu film ‘Takkari Donga.’ I am interested to act in Telugu films. If, any producer or director have an apt role for me, they can approach me. I am ready to do Telugu films.”
Two months before its release, Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maro Dum has rattled Goa’s tourism industry as initial reports about the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer suggest that the movie delves a lot into the state’s narcotics mafia and sex trade.
Both the contentious issues have put Goa on the international map of infamy and with Dum Maro Dum only set to reinforce the same negative image, the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) is simply not happy.
"The censor board should have cut out the objectionable parts, if it portrays the state in a bad light," Gaurish Dhond, president of the TTAG, told reporters.
Comprising of stakeholders of the travel and tourism industry in Goa, the TTAG for nearly three decades now has been the voice of the trade here.
"The film could have bad repercussion for tourism in Goa, if it throws up scenes of prostitution and drugs," Dhond said.
Set in Goa, the film sees Abishek as a police officer and also stars Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu. The first look of the Fox Star-produced movie has all the nefarious ingredients, which has put the state under negative spotlight in the recent past.
In bold big-sized letters, ’Drugs’, ’Cocaine’, ’Sex’ and ’Ecstasy’ run through the racy promo, which also shows rave party scenes and sexy bikini-clad foreigners.
"British (teenager) Scarlet Keeling’s death case was hyped so much that people started feeling that our beaches are unsafe, which was not true at all in the first case. And now this," Dhond said.
Known for its beaches, Goa annually attracts 2.4 million tourists, nearly half a million of whom hail from European countries.
Accusing the media and filmmakers of going overboard while portraying Goa as a sex destination, Dhond said the reputation of Goa is at stake.
"Goa has been built as a tourist destination over the years. You cannot allow some film to condemn it overnight. We have worked very hard for this brand. Why is Goa only being projected in a bad light? Drug abuse, rapes are being highlighted in a big way like this, which spoils the reputation of the state," he said.
Dum Maro Dum is set for an April 22 release.
Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande said they have not written to the producers of the film seeking a pre-release screening.
"We have not issued any letter to the producers of the film," said Deshpande, a spokesperson of the Goa police.
Bipasha Basu's 'Dum Maro Dum' co-star Rana Daggubati says their lovemaking scene felt just like "doing any other scene"
Bipasha Basu and co-star Rana Daggubati share intense lovemaking scenes in Rohan Sippy's Dum Maro Dum. And despite reports of their off-screen link up, Rana maintains he's still single.
Saying co-stars Abhishek Bachchan and Bips made him "extra comfy" on the sets, he claims this is the best Bollywood break he could have asked for.
Telling a tale
Says Rana, "It's no different than doing any other scene. It is just a form of storytelling. Both our characters have a large emotional graph and romance is a part of it."
How did he and Bipasha break the ice?
"Well, I hadn't met her before, so this was the first time I was seeing her. She's been around for so long. In fact even Abhishek was sweet enough to make me feel like home. It was one big family affair for us."
Despite delivering two box office duds-‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’ and ‘Dum Maro Dum’ its hero Rana Daggubati is flying high in the sky with plenty of offers both from Bollywood and Tollywood. The most expensive and high-profile song in Rajini- starrer `Kuselan’ was recorded a couple of days ago in New Delhi. The most sought after Hindi rap singer Daler Mehndi sung the song for the most sought after hero Rajinikanth. Composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, the song was recorded at a hi-tech recording theatre in New Delhi.

2011/4/1 6:26:12 Abhishek and Rana’s upcoming Hindi film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ runs into controversy for its Goan back drop. It drags the attention of Goa Tourism Minister Neelakanta Halaarkar and a former minister of Goa. Neelakanta stated that, he is going file a petition in high court against the film makers, who showcased Goa and the beaches as place of all illegal activities like drugs, sex rockets.
He said if the film is released as it is it will damage the reputation of Goa city and adversely affect the state tourism. He said that, he will meet the director Rohan Sippy and suggest him to remove the objectionable scenes from his film. If, still he wants to keep it intact, then he has no other option except knocking the high court doors.
However, director Rohan Sippy said that, Narcotics and sex rockets can take place anywhere on this globe. Hence, taking Goa as back drop for the film is not intended to defame the state or its tourism. Therefore, the question of removing the scenes from the film doesn’t arise.” This film is releasing on 22nd of April. Unless, the problem is solved amicably some trouble for the screening of the film in Goa can be anticipated.

Rana has simultaneously completed film ‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’ with Ileana directed by Puri Jagannath and Hindi film ‘Dum Maro Dum’ under Mohan Sippy’s direction. Both these films are slated to release during the next month. Hence, he is anxiously waiting for the out come of these two forthcoming films.
