The prices of Beer and hard liquor have gone up steeply. The state government has hiked the prices of IMFL steeply. The effect comes into force from Wednesday. Accordingly the cost of a beer bottle has gone up from the present 50 rupes to 60 rupees. The cost of rum and wine too has gone up by about 20 rupees for a bottler of 750 ml.
The hike comes at the wrong time say many. This being the festive season, the hike has come as a dampener. The sale of liquor gores up considerably during the year-end, particularly during the run up to Christmas and the New Year. The consumption of liquor shoots up by almost 50 percent during this period touching even 200 per cent by the time of the New Year eve celebrations.
2007/8/13 10:49:19 Reema Sen has out on a lot of weight in recent times. The slim beauty now looks plump and round. The reason cited is that she has stopped going to the gym for workouts. And why did she stop going to the gym.
Well, she is now stated to gulping down beer pitcher after pitcher. And after the late night boozing sessions, she is not in a position to get up early in th morning. And that is the reason why she now has no time for workouts at the gym. So people are now saying that Reema now has a small beer belly.
The scorching summer has left guzzlers in a tizzy. The much in demand drink chilled beer is in short supply in the twin cities. The rising temperature coupled with sortage of the stuff has led to a situation where the lovers of beer have to run from one shop to another in search of their popular brand of the bubbly stuff.
The dealers are unable to import the stuff from the neighbouring states as the situation is quite the same there. The situation can be gauged from the facts released by the excise officials. The city has a demand for about 42 lakh cases of beer and the supply was a meager 28 lakh cases.
The prices of beer could fall drastically in the next few days after a state government’s decision can possibly spark of a price-war between beer companies in the state.
A healthy competition has been set up among the companies which pump into the market their brands.
According to very informed and reliable sources, the state government has decided to issue government ‘orders’ to whichever company which tops in sales. This is a bumper offer to propel the companies to effect sales, thereby adding to the excise revenue.
This offer has let loose a buzz of enthusiasm and activity in the companies of popular brands to ensure more sales of their products.
According to information, UB, SCOL, Charminar, Cubas are among 8 companies which supply beer in the state.
Monthly on an average, 1.20 crore cases roll out from the godowns and each case contains 12 bottles.
Former chief minister K Rosaiah, who kept with him the Excise portfolio, was said to have backed the UB company with more orders. This obviously caused much resentment among the other companies.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was approached recently and justice was sought by the other companies.
Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, not to antagonize any section, was said to have made this offer, by which the companies would have to sell as many cases as possible within a stipulated period of 45 days.
The Chief Minister’s ‘offer’ has generated much heat among the company bosses and they, in turn, have started to design ‘offers’ to retailers.
The retailers have been told to give discount on sales/orders etc to promote their business.
The whole exercise is expected to leave the Excise Department exceed its target ‘revenue’ fixed by the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, according to the sources. (INN)

The beer lovers couldn’t ask for more. A bar and restaurant in Nizamabad has come up with a offer – buy two beers and get a ticket of Mahesh Khaleja absolutely free!
There was a mad rush naturally at the bar at Nikhi Sai International hotel in Nizamabad.

2008/4/30 6:24:24 Babu is now on his yatra 'Mee Kosam'. He is making several promises everyday. He is also raking up the prices issue and is blaming the congress for the rise in prices of essential commodities. But many see duplicity in Babu's comments.
A clear example is the prices in the Rythu Bazar and his Fresh@. A comparison of vegetables and food grains has shown that on an average the prices at his Heritage stores are 50 to 70 per cent higher than that of Rythu Bazars. Will Babu first set his house in order before pointing fingers at others?
2011/5/30 19:58:50 Indian Oil Corporation Chairman RS Bhutola has indicated further rise in petrol prices very shortly. He transfers the blame on to international market rates with which the company submerges in huge losses. Hence, it is inevitable for the companies to increase the petrol prices. The petroleum companies have increased the petrol price Rs. 5.00/Lt. on 15th of May. Even before 15days they are gearing-up to increase the prices again. They also plan to increase the Diesel and domestic gas price in June.
The ruling Congress which has been at the receiving end on rising prices tried to turn the tables on Chandra Babu.
The TDP had been raising the issue of rising prices in the Assembly regularly.
Reacting to this, a congress MLA lobbed the ball back into the TDP court. She said that the prices a ‘Fresh @’ are very high. Babu should first look at the prices at his stores and bring them down.
The supermarket chain is promoted by Heritage Foods owned by Babu and run by his wife Bhuvaneswari. Babu, who was present in the Assembly when the issue was raised, chose to remain silent.

The last time prices were slashed was in January 2009.
"IndianOil reviews the motor spirit prices on fortnightly basis and based on the review, fixes the prices for the next fortnight. In keeping with this practice, IndianOil has reviewed the pricing cycle as prevalent in the last fortnight," the company said.
"The review reveals that at the current prices, there will be an over-recovery of Rs.1.85 per litre. It has, therefore, been decided to revise the MS (motor spirit) prices downward by Rs.1.85 (excluding state taxes and levies) with effect from Nov 16," the company added.

Demanding the rollback of the fuel prices, Mr Dattatreya warned that his party would launch an agitation against hike in prices against oil companies.

Food inflation may be result of growing prosperity: Manmohan
2011/11/4 9:20:49 Cannes, Nov 4 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said inflation in food articles in India was, indeed, a problem but said that grain prices have been relatively stable. He also ruled out a roll back in the decision to decontrol petrol prices.
"What prices are going up are prices of vegetables, prices of eggs, prices of fish, that is the secondary and tertiary food items. That is a reflection of the demand for these commodities exceeding supplies," the prime minister said.
"That in turn, to some extent at least, is a sign of growing prosperity of our country. If our national income increases by 8 percent per annum and our population is increasing at 1.6 percent per annum, the per capita income is growing at 6-6.5 percent," he said.
"It is bound to lead to a demand for more diversified type of food basket. I am not saying this is a fool proof way of describing this complex reality, but in analyzing food inflation, I think, this is an aspect that should not be lost sign of," he told a press conference here.
Asked about is reaction the protests back home over the recent hike in prices of petrol, the prime minister also said the decision to decontrol these prices was a part of the process to ensure fair play in commodity markets.
"That is the general direction in which we should move. The decision to decontrol petrol prices was part of that process," said the prime minister, here for the two-Day G20 Summit that concluded Friday.
"These are very sensitive areas and I have no hesitation in saying that we must allow markets to find their own level, except for those commodities which are in the nature of semi-public goods.
"The direction of decontrolling prices was clear," he said, adding prices of more fuels may also be decontrolled.
The comments come against the backdrop of oil companies hiking petrol prices by Rs.1.80 a litre, effective Friday. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had already defended the move, even as opposition slammed the government.
2011/11/6 4:07:10 Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday demanded that the oil marketing companies release a white paper on their expenditure and income since 2008 as they are increasing the price of petrol frequently burdening common man.
Talking to media persons at a private hotel in the city, Venkaiah Naidu expressed serious concern over the hikes in petrol prices as it has been burdening the poor and middleclass, who are already affected due to skyrocketing of essential commodities.
Despite the oil marketing companies earning thousands of crores of income, they are resorting to increase in the prices of petrol and burdening the people, he stated. As the Centre expressed its inability to control prices of petrol due to fluctuation of crude price in international market, he alleged the oil marketing companies resorting to indiscriminate hike in petrol prices.
Naidu said that the oil marketing companies have earned Rs 1,29,200 crore through frequent increase in prices of petrol, so far. Though the rate of crude oil in the international market has come down, the oil marketing companies are resorting to hike in petrol prices. He called upon allies in United Progressive Alliance government to mount pressure on government to roll back prices or withdrew their support to the government if it fails to revoke its decision. He said that the BJP would grill the government in winter session of parliament over the hike in petrol prices.
Naidu demanded that the government set up a proper regulatory mechanism to monitor the prices of crude in international market. Though the government increased interest rate 13 times, the inflation rate has not come down, he said and added that this exposes how the UPA government has been making efforts to control prices of essential commodities.
