The election commission has finally drawn up the schedule for the by polls to the seats vacated by the TRS and for Khairatabad where the vacancy has been caused by the untimely death of PJR. The polls will be held on May 29. The nomination process will commence from March 2. The results will be announced on June 1.
So it is going to be a 'really hot' summer this year. The congress party and the TDP have only something to gain but nothing much to lose. The polls are an acid test for KCR as the onus of getting all the MLAs and MPs who resigned recently elected once again rests on him. There is a strong resistance to some of the candidates from within the party.
The PCC chief D Srinivas has the responsibility of looking after the poll campaign and also take care of the poll expenses of the party's nominees for the by polls. But DS is now looking at chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy to arrange the money for poll expenses of the candidates.
DS is reported to have told YS that as he has taken over as the PCC chief only recently; he is unable to raise funds immediately. So he has put the onus of funding the poll expenses on YS. The congress party is taking the elections as a matter of prestige and the party is ready to spend any amount for campaigning.

Eerybody on the sets of Mahesh Bhatt's Raaz 2 is avoiding Kangana Ranaut. Poor Kangana has viral fever after shooting for some underwater sequences of the film. Already, director Mohit Suri, two assistants and a production member has been infected after being around Kangana.
The film was being shot at Filmcity and the doctor was called there to diagnose Kangana's condition. Director Mohit Suri says, "Yes, Kangana has viral fever since last week as she had to shoot some underwater scenes."
He adds, "Viral fever is very contagious and many crew members already have fever. In fact, I have just recovered. Kangana is also feeling better now."
In fact, Kangana jokingly told Mohit that he deliberately made her fall sick so that she looks more like the character she plays in Raaz 2.
Mohit says, "Kangana joked with me that I made her fall ill so that she resembled her character. She even accused me that I am such a perfectionist that I would do anything to make the scene look realistic."
With the number of people falling sick on the sets, the doctor gave multiple injections to everybody to stop the fever from spreading.

2011/11/9 0:24:10 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi's rally in Uttarakhand, her first since she came back from a surgery abroad, was cancelled after she got fever, a party leader said Wednesday.
"The Congress president is suffering from fever. Her visit to Uttarakhand has been cancelled," AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.
The rally in Gauchar in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand was to be the 64-year-old leader's first major public appearance since she came back after a surgery abroad for an undisclosed ailment in August.
The rally was being seen as the launch of the Congress's campaign for the upcoming assembly polls in 2012 in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state. She was also expected to lay the foundation stone for the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail project.
Her speech would be read out by a representative at the rally, sources said.
The Congress president is a star campaigner and the party is banking heavily on her crowd-pulling abilities in the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand going to the polls next year.
Most post-poll surveys are unanimous on one thing – that YS Jagan is winning in Kadapa. What is however surprising is the margin with which he is expected to win.
According to a post-poll survey conducted by a private news organization Jagan has polled nearly 74 percent of the votes cast. Translated into votes it means that Jagan is winning with a margin of over 3.5 lakh votes.
DL Ravindra Reddy would be lucky if he can manage to retain his deposit. In Pulivendula Vijayamma is expected to trounce her brother-in-law YS Vivekananda Reddy with a comfortable margin of over 30,000 votes.

Asked if she would have to report for a check-up, Tandon said "if necessary, doctors will go to see her at her residence."
2011/9/21 18:26:52 Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi Wednesday said the poll panel is concerned about "paid news" and "grappling with the menace".
"Paid news is a complex menace for elections," said Quraishi, adding "it is a corrupt nexus between political parties, candidates and media houses as it hoodwinks the expenditure rules and causes undue influence on electors".
"We came out with drastic measures and put in place monitoring mechanism to check this menace," he said.
According to the Press Council of India, "any news or analysis appearing in any media (print and electronic) for a price in cash or kind as consideration" is paid news. (IANS)

2007/10/5 5:03:48 Is the 2 Rupees a Kilo rice scheme announced by the chief minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy just a poll gimmick? Yes, say a majority of the people concerned. YS announced the scheme only to take the fizz out of TDP chief Babu’s announcement of 9 hours of free current.
Finance minter Rosaiah let the cat out of the bag when he commented to media today that the scheme was just an idea mooted by YS and nothing concrete has yet been worked out. Even the central government has rejected the state’s request to increase subsidy for the scheme.
The PDS price dealers are also against the idea of Rs. 2 kilo rice scheme. They fell that their margin would come down substantially as rice is now being sold at Rs. 5.40 a kg. Observers feel that if at all the scheme is implemented; it will be only after the polls are announced. And it may not run for long and would be diluted once the elections are over.
If the grapevine is to be believed, the looming threat of Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics is the reason behind the congress party’s thinking about a mid-term poll.
Chiranjeevi is expected to announce his formal entry into politics on October 2. It is expected that he might announce the launching if his own party on that day. So in a bid to pre-empt threat from Chiranjeevi, the conger party might go in for a snap poll. But first wait for October 2 to learn about Chiru’s plans.
2011/10/12 2:08:26 he Congress is set for a "comprehensive defeat" in Thursday's Hisar Lok Sabha by-election in Haryana where Team Anna is campaigning against the party, according to an opinion poll.
The LensOnNews pre-poll survey said the Congress was expected to finish third, with the Haryana Janhit Congress-Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi tipped to win comfortably.
Indian National Lok Dal's (INLD) Ajay Chautala would be "a distant runner-up", the survey said. The Congress candidate is Jai Prakash.
The survey was carried out Oct 8 and 9 across six of the nine assembly segments of Hisar constituency among a representative 593 voters. The poll findings carry a margin of error of five percent.
Team Anna has urged Hisar voters to hand a "historic defeat" to the Congress for not supporting the Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by Anna Hazare.
Hazare confidant Arvind Kejriwal hails from Hisar and has been carrying on high-voltage campaign against the Congress, distributing handbills and CDs containing Anna's personal appeal.
Corruption has evidently become a huge issue in the by-election, the survey said. Asked if they were aware of Hazare's call to vote against the Congress, 84 percent interviewed answered in the affirmative. (IANS)
The election commission has banned pre-poll surveys. Still, some private agencies and some individuals conducted their own surveys. The result of the surveys all predict a big win for Jagan in Kadapa.
In Pulivendula, the sympathy factor is said to have worked heavily. Therefore it is almost certain that Vijayamma, wife of late YS Rajashekar Reddy will be elected with a fairly good margin.

After shooting round-the-clock for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha-Akbar, flying back each evening to rehearse for the Filmfare awards event and shooting for an ad in Singapore, superhero Hrithik Roshan is down with a severe attack of viral fever.
"I'm totally bedridden," he said from his home.
"I've been working round-the-clock, flying in from Karjat to rehearse. Then I also took off for Singpaore,” he added.
"All the time I had high fever and was keeping it down with paracetamol tablets. Today is the first time when I'm resting. Post Saif, all of us really need to take care of ourselves," Hrithik said.
Lately Hrithik has allowed himself to be self-indulgent with his food habits.
"I was so much into being well-toned for Dhoom 2 I decided to give my body a holiday! I splurged for a while. But, then, I needed to get back into shape. Therefore, after shooting, rehearsing for my Filmfare performance, I was also going to the gym daily,” he said.
"On top of all this, Gowariker hadn't warned me that we'd be doing sword-fighting sequences during the last 20 days when I was in and out of Mumbai and Karjat. All this has taken its toll. I'm completely exhausted and burning with a fever,” he added.
He brightens up while speaking about his role as Akbar.
"I've enjoyed playing everyone from Rohit in Koi Mil Gaya to Aryan in Dhoom 2. But playing Akbar is a different challenge requiring a lot of researched attention."
The Urdu professor who called on location to check the accent is happy.
"He hasn't been complaining. So, I guess I'm doing it right," said Hrithik who is in no mood to sign another film yet.
"At the moment, I think a break is seriously needed after Jodha-Akbar. We must learn to listen to warning signals from the body,” the actor said.
2011/3/20 8:03:42 AIADMK party president Jayalalitha has forced the MDMK party chief Vaiko to slash the poll alliance with her party with her style of handling the negotiations. Tamilnadu is going for Assembly elections in the next month in two phases. While, DMK and Congress party some how made a last minute patch up for the elections, AIADMK lead by Jayalalitha and MDMK lead by Vaico have tried for a poll alliance during the last few days. Vygo has asked her to allocate at least 30 seats for his party, where as Jayalalitha has bluntly told him to satisfy with 8 seats only. Vaico, who couldn’t withstand the Jayalalitha style of rude handling the whole issue, bid good bye to alliance. He also declared that, his party won’t contest in the coming elections as his party alone can’t face the elections.
Katrina Kaif beats contemporaries to the Best Actress title on Movie Masala
2011/1/4 10:53:19
The scintillating Katrina Kaif who has been making headlines all through the year adds yet another feather to her cap as she overshadows her contemporaries to win the Best Actress award on popular show Movie Masala on a leading channel.
The awards determined by a public opinion poll saw the gorgeous actress beat the likes of other heavyweights in the Best Actor Female Category by a clear sweep of votes for her role in Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. Interestingly, it is the second consecutive year that Katrina bags the award.
The star who is on a winning streak also topped the World’s Sexiest Woman (Eastern Eye 2010 ) poll third time in a row .She was also crowned Yahoo's 'Newsmaker of 2010'
Bollywood hot girl Katrina Kaif has been elected as 'the sexiest woman' during the last 3 years. But, this time she was pushed to back seat by another hot girl Kareena Kapoor, who was selected 'The Sexiest woman' of the year by 'Eastern Eye' magazine, which has conducted a poll. However, Kareena Kapoor won the title with just 1% margin votes over Katrina Kaif, who now stands second to her. Next to them elected Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Freda Pinto, Aishwarya Bachchan and Deepika Padukone as sexiest women. It seems, 'Eastern Eye' has completely ignored the 'southern spices' in its poll.
The just concluded by polls were by far the most interesting and bitterly contested by polls ever in the state. It is none other than the big separate Telangana issue that was the main reason behind the by polls. For KCR, these polls are a do or die battle. The future of KCR as well as that of the TRS hinges on the results of the by polls.
The exit polls have not exactly pleased KCR. Even the pre-poll surveys reported that the TRS was sure to lose some seats.
According to the exit poll results, the TRS may retain about 10 assembly seats from the 16 that it held before the by polls. Out of the four Lok Sabha seats, the TRS is ahead in two and neck and neck in the third seat. So here also, the TRS is set to lose one or two seats.
The ruling congress is expected to bag anywhere between three and four assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat. Even the TDP is expected to romp home with two or three assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat.
The counting will begin at 8.00 a.m. on Sunday and the results will be out in about two hours time, i.e.by 10.00 a.m. Till then the guessing game continues and the leaders are all tensed up.
2011/11/7 20:56:41 (IANS) Exactly a year before the presidential polls, half of Americans say President Barack Obama does not deserve to be re-elected versus 40 percent who say he does, according to a new poll.
Independents, in particular, have lost faith in the Democratic president, says the Christian Science Monitor/TIPP poll released Monday. But attitudes can change a lot in a year, as history shows, it says.
Moreover, Obama's performance scores as many failing grades as it does soaring marks from the general public, it said.
Thirty-five percent of independents, the critical mass of voters with the power to swing presidential elections, say Obama deserves to be re-elected, while 56 percent believe he does not, according to the poll. Ten percent are not sure or did not say.
Among Americans of all political persuasions, 40 percent of those polled would give Obama four more years, 50 percent would not, 6 percent were not sure, and 4 percent declined to answer.
"The independent support is key. They are a key voting bloc to get him reelected," says Raghavan Mayur, president of TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, which conducted the poll of 901 Americans. "When your support is weak among independents, it really is concerning."
If history is any guide, however, Obama's current approval ratings will be an unreliable predictor of his fate in the November 2012 contest, the Monitor said.
With the Republican nomination race in full swing and early-state primary elections just two months away, the Republicans' lack of consensus around or enthusiasm for a particular candidate could play in Obama's favour, it said.
"Obama should indeed be worried, but so should the Republicans," H.W. Brands, a professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin, was quoted as saying.
Gallup's historical data indicate that Obama's approval ratings, while grim, are not without precedent for re-election.
In the 10th quarter of his presidency (between April 20 and July 19, 2011), Obama's job approval average, at 46.8 percent, was sub-50 percent, the threshold that pundits and journalists use to gauge a leader's appeal in the run-up to an election.
But Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan also rated below that marker during the same period of their respective first terms. Clinton was at 49.3 percent, and Reagan scored a meagre 44.4 percent. Both, of course, went on to a re-election.
