CBI court extends custody of OMC, Emaar cases accused

The CBI Special court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, OMC managing director B Srinivas Reddy, former mines director V D Rajagipal and another accused IAS officer Y Srilakshmi to March 7.

The CBI court extended the judicial custody of the four accused following expiry of their custody on Wednesday.

The designated court also extended the judicial custody of B P Acharya, Koneru Prasad, Sunil Reddy and Vijaya Raghavan, the accused in the Emaar scam, up to March 7.

However, the court rejected the CBI petition seeking further police custody of Srilakshmi and Rajagopal contending that the petition did not address the issue correctly. (INN)

    Court extends judicial remand of Emaar case accused

    2012/4/18 3:24:36 Hyderabad, April 18 (INN): The CBI Special Court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of three accused including senior bureaucrat BP Acharya in the APIIC-Emaar scam.

    While BP Acharya's judicial remand has been extended till April 27, the judicial custody of Sunil Reddy, a close aide of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been extended till April 23. The judicial custody of Emaar MGF Land Limited South Indian Finance head G V Vijay Raghav has been extended till April 26. The court took this decision as their jucial custody expired on Wednesday.

    According to reports, the probing agency is likely to file charge sheet in the APIIC-Emaar scam by next week.

    Emaar case: Court extends Sunil Reddy's judicial remand

    2012/5/7 4:00:35 Hyderabad, May 7 (INN): The CBI Special Court on Monday adjourned the hearing to May 18 on the counter petition of Central Bureau of Investigation opposing grant of bail to Srikant Joshi, an accused in the Emaar case.

    Joshi was the CEO of Emaar-MGF and has been named as an accused in the scam.

    Earlier, Srikant Joshi filed anticipatory bail plea alleging that the agency was harassing him and his family even after filing of charge sheet. Following which, the court directed the CBI to file counter petition in this regard.

    The special court also extended the judicial remand of N Sunil Reddy, another accused in the Emaar scam and close aide of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, to May 17. The court took this decision following expiry of Sunil Reddy's custody on Monday.

    Sunil Reddy in CBI custody till Jan 29

    2012/1/27 10:11:23 The CBI special court on Friday remanded Sunil Reddy, an accused in the Emaar case, to CBI custody till January 29.

    The special court granted two-and-half days' CBI custody to Sunil Reddy and asked the CBI official to produce him before the court on Monday by 2 pm.
    Earlier, the investigating agency sought 15 days custody to interrogate Sunil Reddy on various Emaar deals. However, the court granted only two-and-half day custody. The CBI in its petition stated that Sunil Reddy tried to evade arrest by frequently changing his residence.

    However, Sunil Reddy himself came to the Dilkusha Guest House, CBI's temporary headquarters, on January 24. Based on the evidences that the CBI possessed against him, he was arrested.

    The CBI said that Sunil Reddy needs to be questioned about the whereabouts of money collected from buyers of the villas of Emaar-APIIC township.

    The CBI observed that Sunil Reddy and another accused Koneru Prasad of Stylish Homes, together hatched a criminal conspiracy. (INN)

    Sunil Reddy sent to Chanchalguda Jail

    The CBI special court on Tuesday rejected the petition of CBI seeking extension of custody of Sunil Reddy, an accused in the Emaar case.

    The court gave these directions when the CBI sleuths produced him in the court after the end of his two-and-half days' custody on Tuesday. He was later remanded to judicial custody till February 1 and sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

    The CBI filed a petition seeking extension of his custody for one more week. However, the petition was rejected by the court. With this, the investigation agency has decided to move a petition in the High Court seeking his custody.

    Earlier, the investigating agency had sought 15 days' custody to quiz Sunil Reddy on various Emaar deals. However, the court granted only two-and-half days' custody. The CBI argued that Sunil Reddy needs to be questioned about the whereabouts of money collected from T Ranga Rao, director of Stylish Homes Private Limited for the villas of Emaar-APIIC Township.

    Meanwhile, the CBI officials conducted medical tests for tainted IAS officer B P Acharya, who was arrested on Monday in connection with Emaar case. The officials conducted medical tests at Dilkusha Guest House. The doctors reportedly stated that B P Acharya was weak and advised him to take glucose frequently. (INN)

    HC grants CBI custody for Sunil, Vijaya Raghav

    2012/2/3 13:43:22 The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday granted CBI custody for N Sunil Reddy and Vijay Raghava, for further interrogation into the APIIC-Emaar scam.

    While Sunil was granted three days' custody, Vijay Rahghavan would be in CBI's custody for five days. The court directed the probing agency to conduct interrogation from 8 am to 6 pm and also conduct the medical check-up of both the accused.

    CBI arrested N Sunil Reddy, a close aide of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on January 24 while Vijayaraghav, the finance head of Emaar-MGF (South) was arrested on January 28. (INN)

    Court grants CBI custody for Srikanth Joshi

    2012/2/29 2:09:25 The Special CBI court on Wednesday granted CBI custody for former CEO of Emaar-MGF Srikanth Joshi from March 5 to 9th.

    The court has directed the CBI to interrogate Srikanth Joshi in the presence of of his lawyer between 10 am and 5 pm. The court issued these directions when the officials produced him in connection with his bail petition. The court adjourned the further hearing of this case to March 14.

    Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the bail petition of Vijay Raghav, finance head of Emaar MGF, to March 7. (INN)

    Koneru Madhu surrenders before CBI court

    2012/4/27 5:37:11 Hyderabad, April 27 (INN): Koneru Madhu, son of Koneru Prasad, who is 13th accused in Emaar –APIIC scam, was surrendered before the CBI special court in Nampally on Friday.

    The CBI in its charge sheet alleged that Rs1.05 crores has been transferred from Emaar funds to Koneru Madhu accounts.

    After his surrender in the court, the probing agency has sought custody of Koneru Madhu. However, the court adjourned the CBI custody petition to May 17.

    It may be recalled that the CBI has earlier filed a petition seeking the arrest of Koneru Madhu in connection with Emaar scam. Following the CBI plea, the court issued summons to Koneru Madhu, who was in Dubai, to surrender before the court.

    The CBI says in its charge sheet that Koneru Prasad, the key accused in the case, was the person who introduced the Dubai-based company to the state government to promote and develop an integrated project consisting of an international convention centre, a star hotel, a golf course and residential villas.

    Stylish Homes Pvt Ltd was Prasad’s brain child and was instrumental in entering into an agency agreement with Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV-I) and Emaar Town Hills Private Limited, a joint venture company.

    Its director Tummala Ranga Rao acted at the behest of Prasad and sold the villas over and above the documented price of `5,000 a square yard and collected a sum of `138 crore which was not accounted for.

    The money so collected was disbursed as per the instructions of Prasad herein clandestinely to have a wrongful gain and to cause wrongful loss to the APIIC.

    The CBI alleges that Koneru Prasad misappropriated a sum of `96 crore and committed criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds.

    Meanwhile the special court extended the judicial remand of senior bureaucrat B P Acharya and Koneru Prasad, the accused in Emaar case, to May 17.

    The court extended the remand as their custody ended today.

    2011/10/16 23:50:42 A special court Monday extended the judicial custody of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B.V. Srinivasa Reddy till Oct 31 in an illegal mining case.

    The special court for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases extended the custody, which was ending Monday.

    As the Telangana lawyers at Nampally Criminal Court continued their protest for separate Telangana state, the judge conducted the hearing via video linkage between the court and Chanchalguda Central Jail here, where the accused are lodged, CBI officials said.

    The court Sep 30 had dismissed bail petitions of the mining baron and his brother-in-law. The same day, the court refused to remand the accused into further custody of CBI.

    The federal agency had arrested the duo from Bellary in Karnataka Sep 5 in connection with the illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district.

    They were brought to Hyderabad the same day and the court sent them to judicial custody till Sep 19. The judge Sep 13 rejected bail pleas of the accused and remanded them to CBI custody for six days.

    Sunil Reddy to judicial remand till Feb.1st

    2012/1/25 11:41:06 The Special CBI court on Wednesday remanded Sunil Reddy, who was arrested by CBI sleuths on Tuesday in connection with the Emaar case, to judicial custody till February 1.

    The CBI officials produced Sunil Reddy, a businessman and close aide of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy, before the court in connection with the Emaar case. The CBI has registered cases against him under Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 477 (fraudulent cancellation, destruction etc) of the Indian Penal Code.

    While remanding Sunil Reddy, the court posted the hearing on CBI's petition seeking his custody to January 27. Later, Sunil was shifted to the Chanchalguda Central Jail. (INN)

    Court remands Mangala Krishna to judicial custody till June 6

    2012/5/23 8:11:59 Hyderabad, May 23 (INN): A criminal court at Nampally on Wednesday remanded Mangala Krishna, who was arrested by the CID for allegedly supplying fire arms to Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri murder case, to judicial custody till June 6.

    The court gave this direction after Mangala Krishna was produced before the court by the CID. He was arrested on Tuesday at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district. On court's directions, he was shifted to Cherlapally Central Prison.

    Krishna is a co-accused in several extortion and Arms Act cases. Krishna has reportedly confessed before the CID sleuths that he was involved in several cases of land settlements and extortion in association with Bhanu and he had also supplied fire arms to the latter.

    Gali's bail petition dismissed

    2011/9/30 7:17:38 The Special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Friday dismissed the bail petitions of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law and Obulapuram Mining Corporation Managing Director Srinivasa Reddy in connection with illegal mining case.

    The court also refused to give further custody of the accused to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The special court dismissed the petitions of both Janardhana and Srinivasa Reddy for bail as the prosecution had opposed them on the ground that the accused, if released, might tamper with the evidence.

    Gali's counsel opposed the CBI's petition seeking their custody for nine days citing rulings of the Supreme Court in various cases. He pointed out that the CBI custody of the accused should be given only in the first 15 days of the arrest. The CBI had earlier questioned the accused for six days.

    Janardhana Reddy and Srinivasa Reddy were arrested by the CBI in Bellary on September 5 in connection with the illegal mining in Anantapur district bordering Karnakata. Later, they were brought to Hyderabad. The CBI special court on September 13 rejected their bail petitions and both were sent to CBI custody for six days.

    The court later extended the judicial custody of the accused till October 3. The accused are currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail. (INN)

    CBI arrests Vijaya Raghavan in Emaar scam

    2012/1/28 14:29:09 The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested Emaar Hills and Township CEO Vijaya Raghavan in the Emaar-APIIC scam.

    Vijaya Raghavan was taken into custody when he came to the Dilkusha Guest House after being summoned by the CBI. He was questioned for a few hours and was later arrested. He was later produced before the Special CBI Court which sent him to judicial remand till January 30. On court's direction, he was later shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison.

    Meanwile, the CBI has filed a petition before the court seeking 15-days custody of Raghavan for further interrogation. The court is yet to hear the petition. The probing agency officials claimed that Raghavan possess crucial evidences in the Emaar scam.

    The CBI had earlier arrested Koneru Prasad of Stylish Homes and Sunil Reddy, a close aide of YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Emaar scam. (INN)

    Court adjourns hearing on Bhanu's custody petition to Tuesday

    2012/4/23 9:26:10 Hyderabad, April 23 (INN): The Crime Investigation Department Court, Nampally on Monday adjourned the hearing to Tuesday on a petition filed by the CID seeking custody of Malishetty Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the murder case of factionist Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri.

    In its petition, the CID has sought Bhanu Kiran's custody for 15 days to thoroughly interrogate him in connection with Suri's murder and other cases pending against him. After hearing the CID's arguments, the court adjourned the plea to Tuesday.

    Nearly 15 cases relating to extortion, land grab and cheating registered across the State are pending against Bhanu Kiran, who was arrested on Saturday.

    Koneru's CBI custody extended till Nov 14

    2011/11/11 6:25:10 The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Thursday extended the CBI custody of Stylish Homes managing director Koneru Prasad till November 14.

    The counsel of Central Bureau of Investigation appealed to the court to extend Koneru Prasad's custody further as they needed to interrogate him for some more days to extract information in connection with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation-Emaar land scam. It may be mentioned that Koneru Prasad was arrested last week and the court has remanded him to CBI custody.

    The CBI told the court that Prasad has not been cooperating with it during the interrogation and sought another eight days of his custody for further interrogation. “The investigating agency wants to know where Prasad has hidden all the black money that he has collected from the buyers of villas and plots in the Emaar Township,” the CBI counsel told the court.

    The agency also informed the court that Prasad has confessed to have earned Rs 30 crore illegally through the land scam deals but the amount was certainly more as details are yet to be extracted from him. However, Prasad told the court that the CBI official has been harassing him mentally in the name of investigation. “I am unable to face such serious harassment,” Koneru Prasad said. (INN)

    Koneru's judicial custody extended till Dec 29

    2011/12/15 9:49:27 The judicial custody of Koneru Prasad, Chairman of Trimex group and a key accused in the APIIC-Emaar land deal case, has been extended till December 29 by a Special CBI Court here on Thursday.

    The custody was extended after Koneru was produced before the court through video-linkage from the Chanchalguda Central Prison. It was on Dec 12 that the court has rejected his bail application. Objecting to his bail plea, the Central Bureau of Investigation raised apprehensions that he might influence the witnesses and destroy or tamper with the evidence, if released on bail.

    However, on Thursday Koneru pleaded with the court that he was not directly involved with the Emaar Properties and no one has given any complaint against him. He said his family was dependent upon him and therefore, he should be released on bail.

    During the course of investigation it was revealed that under the instructions of Prasad, Stylish Homes Real Estate Private Limited director T Ranga Rao collected around Rs 138 crore from the villa buyers, which was more than the documented price, causing losses to the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).     Court extends judicial remand of liquor case accused to Feb 29

    2012/2/24 2:12:33 Warangal, Feb 24 (INN): The ACB Court, Warangal, on Friday extended the judicial remand of nine accused in the liquor scam to Feb 29. The accused include one Excise and Prohibition inspector Porika Karamchand.

    The accused were produced before the ACB court after their custody expired on Friday. Later, they were shifted to Warangal Jail.

    It may be mentioned that the ACB sleuths arrested four persons – A Anand, V Someshwar, P Ramesh and R Vidyasagar, who were working as accountants with the PMR Group and four traders – Muthineni Veerachander, Akuthota Sudhakar, Pingali Mohan Reddy and Ch Santosh Reddy for their alleged involvement in the liquor scam in January.

    Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing on bail petition of Nunna Venkata Ramana, the alleged kingpin of liquor syndicate, who reportedly paid bribes to Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and several other politicians, to Feb 28.

    2011/10/3 5:33:00 The special court for Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday once again extended the judicial custody of former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B V Srinivasa Reddy till October 17.

    The special court passed this order after the investigating agency filed a memo seeking extension of their judicial custody, which was ending on Monday.

    The judge conducted the hearing via video linkage between the court and Chanchalguda Central Jail, where the accused are lodged.

    The CBI officials said the accused were not brought to the Nampally Criminal Court complex due to security reasons.

    The court on September 30th once again dismissed the bail petitions of the mining baron and his brother-in-law. The same day, the court refused to remand the accused into further custody of the CBI.

    The probing agency had arrested the duo from Bellary in Karnataka on September 5 in connection with illegal mining in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

    They were brought to state capital Hyderabad the same day and the court sent them to judicial custody till September 19. The judge on September 13 rejected bail pleas of the accused and remanded them to CBI custody for six days.

    SC adjourns hearing on Jagan's case

    2011/9/9 3:00:03 The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on petition filed by YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy seeking a stay on the CBI investigation on Jagathi Publications and its associate companies to September 16.
    The apex court stated that it would hold hearing on both Jagathi Publications and Emaar Properties cases separately on September 16.

    Earlier, the counsel of TDP leader K Yerran Naidu objected to hearing of both Jagathi Publications and Emaar Properties cases on same day. However, the Supreme Court said the cases would be heard separately, to which Yerran Naidu counsel agreed. Then the apex court posted both the cases to September 16.
    It may be mentioned that Jagan and Emaar Properties had moved to the Supreme Court to stall the on-going CBI probe take up following the directions of High court. (INN)

    Court grants 9-day police custody for Bhanu

    2012/4/24 8:18:55 Hyderabad, April 24 (INN): The sixth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Nampally on Tuesday remanded M Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the murder case of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, to nine days police custody.

    While remanding Bhanu Kiran to police custody from April 25, the court directed the officials of Crime Investigation Department to interrogate him before his lawyers or his family members from morning 10 to 4 pm.

    In the petition filed before the sixth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, the CID officials said that Bhanu's custody would enable the agency to know the other conspirators in Suri's murder case apart from verifying the properties that he acquired illegally and sought 15 days custody of Bhanu Kiran.

    However, the court granted 9-days custody and asked the CID officials to produce him in the court after the expiry of his custody.

    Nearly 15 cases relating to extortion, land grab and cheating registered across the State are pending against Bhanu Kiran, the officials said.

    BP Acharya sent to CBI remand for two days

    2012/1/30 15:39:45 The Special CBI Court on Monday granted two day custody to senior IAS officer BP Acharya in the Emaar scam.

    Earlier in the day, Acharya was arrested by the CBI for his alleged role in irregularities in land transfer and sale of villas and apartments in Emaar Township. Acharya, the 1983 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been named as the prime accused in the multi-crore scam.

    The Principal Secretary for Home, Acharya, was called for questioning at the CBI office was later taken into custody. Later, he was produced before the CBI Court which remanded him to two day CBI custody for further interrogation. The court asked the probing agency to produce him again on February 1 by 4 pm.

    Meanwhile, Acharya has also moved a bail petition in the court seeking release on health grounds. However, the court has posted the hearing on bail petition to February 1.

    Meanwhile, the court has also extended the judicial remand of two other accused Sunil Reddy and Vijaya Raghavan till February 1.

    The CBI on August 17 registered a case against Acharya and the real estate developer on instructions of the state high court under sections 120 (B), 13/2, 13/1/C, 409, 420, 477 (A) of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

    The case relates to alleged dilution of APIIC equity from 49 per cent to 26 per cent in the land development project in Manikonda, which was being developed jointly by the and Dubai-based Emaar. It has also been alleged that villas and apartments were shown underpriced in the documents causing losses to the exchequer.

    Earlier, the CBI has also arrested famous industrialist Koneru Prasad in this case.

    Acharya is the second serving IAS officer after Y Srilakhsmi to be arrested on the charges of corruption and irregularities. Srilakhsmi, who was arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation, is presently lodged in Chanchalguda Women's Jail. (INN)
