Power sharing will solve Telangana issue: Diwakar

Former minister and senior Congress leader J C Diwakar Reddy on Saturday called upon political leaders to resolve the Telangana statehood issue through sharing of power between those from Seemandhra and Telangana.

Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office here, he said that the Telangana problem could be amicably resolved by sharing the post of Chief Minister between Telangana and Seemandhra leaders. He said that the separation problem got strengthened since most of the time the post of the state’s Chief Minister was occupied by leaders from Seemandhra.

Hence, he suggested that leaders from Seemandhra and Telangana could share the coveted post of Chief Minister for three years and two years in turn.

Mr Diwakar Reddy said that he would hold consultations with all state level leaders in this regard and later take up this proposal to the Congress High Command. However, he hastened to add that this proposal was not against present Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.“If we consider this proposal at the implementation stage, we can solve the statehood issue amicably,” he was confident.

He recalled that the same idea was floated during former Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s tenure. However, no one responded positively to this, he added.

Taking a serious note of the desecration of Dr Ambedkar’s statues, he said these were installed at prominent places all over the state to remind people of their services and sacrifices to achieve freedom. (INN)

15 MLAs from Telangana support Jagan

2010/12/16 3:25:44 Congress MLA R. Damodar Reddy has claimed that 15 MLAs and five to six MPs of the ruling party from Telangana were eager to join hands with Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

His claim was refuted by another party leader J.C. Diwakar Reddy who emphatically said that none of the 156 Congress MLAs would switch over to Jagan's camp. They would like to stay with the ruling party to curry official favour, he added. Mr. Damodar Reddy and Mr. Diwakar Reddy were talking to media persons in the Assembly lobbies separately.

Mr. Damodar Reddy said most of the Ministers were expecting mid-term polls to be ordered since several Congress MLAs were looking to Mr. Jagan. They were unhappy for not having say in the administration which was mostly handled by Congress high command. Even the posting of officers was done from New Delhi. As a result, officers visited corridors of power in the capital.

He disclosed plans of Congress MPs from Telangana to hold a dinner meeting in New Delhi later this month to discuss their strategy in the present circumstances marked by confusion. Party MLAs and MLCs from the region would also be invited for the meeting. Later, they would meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

Solution to T tangle not so soon, hints Azad

2011/6/6 3:41:01 Hinting that any solution to the contentious separate Telangana issue would not be forthcoming soon, Union Health Minister and Congress In-Charge for AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday expressed confidence that the state government would be able to tackle the impending threat of intensified agitations for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Azad told media persons before leaving for the United States that the separate Telangana issue was ‘very sensitive’ and the situation which prevailed immediately after the December 9, 2009 statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has not changed.

“My two-day trip to Andhra Pradesh was part of the Centre’s efforts to solve the Telangana issue, and I had met leaders from across the state. They are a divided lot, with leaders from Seemandhra keen in Andhra Pradesh remaining integrated while the leaders from Telangana keen on a separate state,” Mr Azad said.

Mr Azad’s words come at a time when the Congress leaders from Telangana gave hints that their patience was wearing thin over the separate statehood issue by saying that they planned a last trip to New Delhi on June 9 to push for a solution. “This would be our last trip,” a Minister from Telangana had said on Saturday after a meeting of the ruling party’s Legislators.

He added that the Centre has to choose one of the six options given by the Justice BN Srikrishna Committee to solve the issue.

“Efforts are on to find a solution to the Telangana issue. It will take time, but a solution will be found. We are trying to convince the Legislators from Telangana that a solution would be found and they have to observe restraint, instead of threatening to resign,” Mr Azad said.

He also expressed confidence that the state government would be able to handle any situation arising out of the intensified agitations for Telangana.

“There are some problems being faced by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. He will be able to sort them out. There is nothing major to worry about,” the party In-charge for AP Affairs said.

“We have put in a government of young leaders and they would be able to handle the problems efficiently,” Mr Azad added.

No timeframe to resolve T issue: Azad

2011/10/29 4:47:46 Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday reiterated that there was no exact time frame to resolve the the Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Azad said that the government was making efforts to resolve the Telangana issue. "I would like to reiterate that we are for an early resolution of this issue," he said.

Azad expressed confidence that the Centre would find a solution to controversial and sensitive statehood issue soon. “The Congress party will stand by its promise and solve the problem. However, it is difficult to give the exact time limit as the consultation process is still on,” he pointed out.

Responding to a question, Azad said the party has not discussed elaborately on Telangana issue in the Core committee meeting held on Friday. "We discussed several organisational issues," he said.

Azad said that the party would convene a meeting with the UPA allies to elicit their views on the issue. (INN)
