Rajaiah asks Cong MLAs to raise 'T' issue in assembly

The Congress MPs have urged their party MLAs in the State to raise the issue of separate Telangana during the ensuing session of the State Legislative Assembly.

Talking to reporters Congress MP S Rajaiah said that the party MLAs should take up the issue on the floor of the House. A similar agitation would be taken up by the Congress MPs in both the house of Parliament. He said all the elected representatives from the region should continue the statehood agitation till Telangana is formed.

Rajaiah appreciated Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati for passing the resolution in the UP assembly for division of her state into four parts. He said that Mayawati was following the principles of Dr B R Ambedkar in true spirit. Claiming that Dr Ambedkar was in favour of smaller states, he said overall development of the country was possible only with smaller states.

Earlier, talking to media persons Nagarkurnool MP sought the cooperation of Telugu Desam Party MPs in raising the Telangana issue in the Parliament. He said all the elected representatives, across party lines, should unite to achieve Telangana and they should discuss the strategy to be adopted on the floor of the House on daily basis.

The Congress MPs have also staged a dharna before the Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Parliament before the session began at 11 am on Tuesday. The MPs entered the House by raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans. (INN)

Why only deputy posts for T leaders: Congress MLA

2011/6/3 3:58:02 “Why should the leaders from Telangana always serve as deputies to the leaders from the other two regions of the state?” questioned Congress MLA from Warangal district T Rajaiah on Friday, giving a new twist to the government’s decision to name leaders from Telangana as the Deputy Chief Minister and Deputy Speaker.

Talking to media persons on the Assembly premises, Mr Rajaiah alleged that the government had discriminated against the Telangana region by appointed the region’s MLAs as deputies to the MLAs from Seemandhra region for the two important posts.

“The Telangana MLAs are facing lot of injustice in the appointments to Constitutional posts. Telangana have not been given proper representation despite having a population of 4 crore people,” Mr Rajaiah stated.

He also criticised Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for recommending names of Telangana leaders for the Deputy Speaker post, but not for the Speaker’s post.

Mr Rajaiah stated that the Telangana MLAs would raise this issue before the Congress High Command and demand that the injustice be set right.

The MLA further appealed to the state government to make a statement on Telangana issue before the introduction of the No Confidence Motion against the Chief Minister.

“Based on the statement given by the government, the MLAs from Telangana would take a decision whether to support the Motion or not,” Mr Rajaiah stated.

Speaker summons newly joined TRS MLAs

2011/11/16 17:20:11 Congress MLA from Station Ghanpur T Rajaiah and an independent MLA from Ramagundam constituency Somarapu Satyanarayana on Wednesday stated that they would appear before Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar after November 22 to explain their position over resignations submitted for the cause of Telangana statehood.

Assembly Secretary S Raja Sadaram on Wednesday called both the MLAs asking them to meet the Speaker regarding their resignations. However, the MLAs said that since they are participating in Telangana Sadhana Padayatra, they would appear before the Speaker after November 22.

It may be mentioned that Rajaiah and Satyanarayana have joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi after resigning from the Congress party over the Telangana statehood issue. While Rajaiah was elected on a Congress ticket in 2009 elections, Satyanarayana was elected as an independent was supporting the Congress party as an associate member.

According to sources, the Speaker might seek clarification over their resignations from MLAs' post and dispose their petition. (INN)

Manda defends T Cong MLAs resignations

2011/10/30 6:39:08 Congress MP Manda Jagannatham expressed concern over the resignation of three Congress MLAs from the party citing party's non-serious attitude towards the Telangana issue.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Jagannatham said that the resignation of Jupally Krishna Rao, T Rajaiah and S Satyanaryana would mount pressure on the other elected representatives of the Congress in the region to follow the suit. He demanded that the Congress High Command should take serious note of these resignations and take an early decision on the statehood issue. He said that if four to five more MLAs resign from the party and the post, then the present Kiran Kumar Reddy Government would collapse as it enjoying a very thin majority to stay in power.

Defending Jupally, Rajaiah and Satyanarayana's decision, the Nagarkurnool MP said that they were forced to quit the Congress party following pressure from the general public in their respective constituencies. He said that their resignations would only increase the pressure on other Congress MLAs and MPs to quit the Congress party if it continues to delay the announcement on Telangana statehood. (INN)

Newly elected Telangana MLAs to take oath on Monday

2012/3/25 4:06:25 Six MLAs from the Telangana region, who were elected in the recently held by-elections, will take oath on Monday.

The TRS MLAs - Jupally Krishna Rao (Kollahpur), Jogu Ramanna (Adilabad), T Rajaiah (Station Ghanpur) and Gampa Goverdhan (Kamareddy); BJP MLA from Mahbubnagar Y Srinivas Reddy and independent MLA from Nagarkurnool Nagam Janardhan Reddy would first visit the Telangana Martyr's Memorial at Gun Park and then proceed to the State Legislative Assembly to take the oath.

The entry of six new MLAs, who were elected primarily due to Telangana sentiments in the by-elections, is likely to heaten up the atmosphere in the House. The TRS and other MLAs from the region are all set to raise the demand for Telangana resolution, especially in view of suicide by MBA student Bojja Naik in Warangal.

Speaker Nadendla Manohar is likely to administer the oath of secrecy to the newly elected MLAs.

YSR Congress party MLA from Kovvur seat N Prasanna Kumar Reddy will take the oath on March 29. It may be mentioned that he would be the second MLA, after Vijayamma, to enter the assembly as YSR Congress representative. (INN)

MLA requests speaker not to approve his resign letter

2011/11/23 12:20:14 Ramagundem MLA Somarapu Satyanarayana on Wednesday requested Speaker Nadendla Manohar not to accept his resignation that he submitted for the cause of Telangana.

Talking to reporters after meeting the Speaker at the State Legislative Assembly, Somarapu said that he has asked Nadendla Manohar not to accept his resignation that he submitted on October 4 for the cause of Telangana state. Clarifying on the issue, Somarapu said that he had submitted the resignation following the advise of people in his constituency.

However, Somarapu said that his supporters have now asked him to continue on the post as the resignations by elected representatives for the cause of statehood have failed to move the Centre on the issue. Therefore, he said that instead of resigning as MLA, he has withdrawn the support given to the Congress Government. Since Somarapu was elected as an independent and was only an associate member of the Congress party in assembly, the Anti-Defection Law that leads to disqualification does not apply on him.

Somarapu was with the Telugu Desam Party and worked as municipal chairman for Ramagundam. However, during 2009 elections he was denied a ticket that led him to contest as an independent. He got elected and later joined the Congress party in the presence of the then chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and continued as an associate member of the Congress. On October 30, he joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi along with two other Congress MLAs - Jupally Krishna Rao and T Rajaiah.

The Ramagundem MLA said that if the Speaker accepts his resignation, he would consider it as conspiracy of the ruling party. He also objected to the Speaker summoning him 'so early' although the resignation of MLAs from TDP, TRS and Congress party was still pending before him. However, he said that he would abide by the Speaker's decision.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Station Ghanapur T Rajaiah too appeared before the Speaker on Wednesday requesting him to accept his resignation.

After coming out of Speaker’s chamber, Rajaiah said that he has appealed to the Speaker to accept his resignation submitted for the cause of Telangana statehood. If the Speaker did not accept his resignation, he said he would raise the Telangana issue in the ensuing session of the legislative assembly scheduled to begin on December 1.

Rajaiah said that the elected representatives from the region submitted resignations to mount pressure on the government towards taking a decision on the statehood issue. He alleged that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and former chief minister K Rosaiah have repeatedly created obstacles in the formation of Telangana. (INN)

Jupally asks Speaker to accept his resignation

2011/11/22 16:17:42 Former minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday requested Speaker Nadendla Manohar to accept his resignation as the member of the legislative assembly.

Jupally, who was elected on Congress ticket from the Kollahpur assembly segment in Mahabubnagar district in 2009 elections, has quit the party over Telangana issue and joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi on October 29. He also submitted resignation from the MLA's post.

On being summoned, Jupally met the Speaker at his chambers in the State Legislative Assembly building on Tuesday to give clarifications on his resignation. "I have requested the Speaker to accept my resignation," he told reporters, later.

Jupally claimed that this was the right time for the Centre to announce formation of separate Telangana. He said further delay in taking a decision on the Telangana issue would prove costly for the Congress party. He said that the Congress party should realise its mistakes and announce a favourable decision on Telangana.

Referring to the passing of resolution in Uttar Pradesh assembly for division of state into four parts, he said that UP chief minister Mayawati has challenged the supremacy of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with her move.

Two more MLAs - S Satyanarayana and T Rajaiah who have joined the TRS from the Congress party have been summoned by the Speaker on Wednesday for clarification on their resignations. While Rajaiah was elected from the Station Ghanpur seat in 2009 elections on Congress ticket, Satyanarayana was elected as an independent and was an associate MLA of the Congress party. (INN)

Speaker accepts resignations of four rebel MLAs

2011/11/28 15:31:45 Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Monday accepted the resignations of four more MLAs - all rebels of Congress and Telugu Desam Party.

The resignation of former minister Jupally Krishan Rao representing Kollahpur assembly segment has been accepted. The other three MLAs whose resignation has been accepted are T Rajaiah (Station Ghanpur), Gampa Goverdhan (Kamareddy) and Jogu Ramanna (Adilabad).

While Gampa Govardhan and Jogu Ramanna were elected on TDP tickets, Jupally Krishna Rao and T Rajaiah won the 2009 assembly elections on Congress tickets. Recently they resigned from the parties to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

With the acceptance of these four resignations, the total number of vacant assembly seats in the State Assembly has touched seven. Resignations of MLAs Nagam Janardhan Reddy (Nagarkurnool) and Prasanna Kumar Reddy (Kovvur) were accepted by the Speaker last week. While Nagam was suspended from the Telugu Desam Party after he joined the Telangana bandwagon, Prasanna Kumar first joined the Congress and then shifted his loyalties to the YSR Congress party.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has rejected the resignations of 61 MLAs of TDP and TRS who put in their papers demanding separate statehood for the Telangana region. However, the Speaker is yet to take a decision on the disqualification petitions of MLAs who joined the YSR Congress party from the Congress, TDP and the Praja Rajyam Party. (INN)

TRS to nominate ex-MLAs for by-polls

2011/12/12 14:30:23 The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has given clear indications that it would nominate former MLAs who joined from the other parties as its official candidates for the by-elections.

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday appointed four former MLAs as the in-charge of constituencies that they represented earlier. While Jogu Ramana was made incharge of Adilabad assembly seat, Gampa Goverdhan will be incharge for Kamareddy, Jupally Krishna Rao for Kollahpur and T Rajaiah for Station Ghanpur constituency.

These MLAs have recently resigned from the TDP and Congress to join the TRS. They have also resigned from the assembly membership which necessitated by-polls in these constituencies.

It may be mentioned that the TRS nominated Pocharam Srinivas Reddy from the Banswada assembly seat in the by-election which he earlier represented as TDP MLA. He got elected from the seat in the by-elections held in October this year. (INN)

Will decide on resignation resubmission after Manohar’s return: MLA

2011/8/3 8:18:57 Congress MLA from Warangal Rajaiah on Wednesday stated that the Congress MLAs from Telangana will chalk out their future course on the resubmission of resignations after the arrival of Speaker Nadendla Manohar from United Kingdom on August 6.

Talking to media persons on Assembly premises, Mr Rajaiah denied the rumours which appeared in a section of the media that Congress leaders are bowing down to pressure tactics of High Command and were contemplating to go back on their decision.

The MLA stated that the Congress leaders are committed to resignations and there was no question of reversing their decision. “We are ready to submit resignations afresh once Speaker returns to the city from London,” the MLA stated.

“We have not submitted our resignations bowing down to pressure mounted on us by Telangana Political Joint Action committee,” he pointed out.

“Once the Speaker takes a decision on resignations, the Steering Committee of Telangana leaders will meet and chalk out the future course on the issue,” Mr Rajaiah said.

Condemning Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for seeking a fresh resolution in the Assembly over deletion of Clause 14 F from the Presidential Orders, he alleged that statement was insulting to the elected representatives.

Stating that it was impossible to pass resolution afresh in the House, Mr Rajaiah demanded that the government postpone the SI recruitment examination until Centre takes concrete action. (INN)

    Botsa bluffs over MLAs resignations

2011/10/30 5:37:10 The Congress party on Sunday took light of the resignations of three MLAs - Jupally Krishna Rao, T Rajaiah and S Satyanarayana - and said that their exit would not have any impact of the party in the Telangana region.

Talking to reporters, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana said that the MLAs resignations were not linked to the Telangana issue. He said that the MLAs should have spoken to the party leadership if they were really serious about the Telangana statehood. However, the MLAs resigned from the party without even consulting anyone.

Botsa ridiculed the Telangana MLAs claim that their resignations from the Congress party would mount pressure on the Centre to take an early decision on the Telangana statehood issue. He said that the resignations were aimed at selfish gains.

Refusing to elaborate further, the PCC president said that the party would discuss the matter before making further comments.

Meanwhile, Telangana Congress Steering Committee convenor K Keshav Rao regretted that the MLAs had to quit the party. He said the party leadership should take measures to ensure that other MLAs and leaders do not follow the suit. (INN)

2012/4/14 6:30:56 Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Saturday asked the political leaders not to link the Telangana State issue with the by-elections to be held in the 18 Assembly constituencies in the state.

In an informal interaction with the media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, the PCC chief took serious objection over linking of Telangana issue to the by-elections. T-Cong MPs raise banner of revolt

2011/11/24 14:57:53 Defying party orders, the Congress MPs from the Telangana region have announced that they would continue to stall the proceedings of Parliament demanding statehood for the Telangana region.

The Telangana Congress MPs were reportedly rebuked by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday evening for disrupting the proceedings of the Lok Sabha over Telangana issue. He summoned the MPs in his chamber in the Parliament and asked them to restrain from stalling the proceedings of the House. However, the MPs reportedly conveyed that they would not allow the Parliament to run until the Centre announces a favourable decision on the statehood issue.

Later, addressing a press conference Congress MPs - S Rajaiah, Manda Jagannatham, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, G Vivek and Ponnam Prabhakar said that they will continue their agitation "within and outside the Parliament" for the cause of Telangana. They said they could even go against the Congress High Command on the issue and "nobody could stop them from doing so".

"We were elected by the people of Telangana and not by the High Command," Nalgonda Gutta Sukhender Reddy said. Stating that "the MPs were not afraid of anyone", he said the Centre should honour the promise it made on December 9, 2009. He said the Telangana MPs would discuss their startegy on daily basis during the winter session of the Parliament.

Nagarkurnool MP Manda Jagannatham said that the MPs would continue their protest until the Centre announces formation of Telangana. Warangal MP Sircilla Rajaiah said that they could not be pressurised by anyone to discontinue the statehood agitation.

Peddapally MP G Vivek said that the Congress party having a pre-poll alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2004 was a clear indication that the party was in favour of granting statehood for the region. Therefore, the Congress High Command should honour the promise and announce Telangana. He said the MPs would not change their stand on the issue, under any circumstances. (INN)

Who should resign first MLAs or Ministers?

    2011/9/10 7:06:23

Congress MLAs from the region have adopted a new strategy to escape criticism from pro-Telangana activists for not resigning afresh from their posts.

In the meeting of Telangana Congress Steering Committee held here on Sunday, the Congress MLAs have decided to pressurise the ministers from the region to resign from the cabinet. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Congress MLA T Rajaiah said that the ministers would be asked to submit their resignation directly to the Governor. "Once the ministers resign from the cabinet, then all MLAs will follow the suit and resign from their assembly membership," Rajaiah said.

Sources say that the Congress MLAs were critical that Telangana minister intelligently resigned from their MLAs post while retaining their cabinet berth. They would have remained ministers for six month, in case the Speaker would have accepted the resignations submitted by all MLAs. But the scenario would have been different if they would have submitted their resignations from the cabinet directly to the Governor. Therefore, this time the Congress MLAs want the ministers to lead from the front and resign from the cabinet first.

In response to the MLAs decision, Minister Komatireddi Venkat Reddy announced that he would submit his resignation letter directly to the Governor, if the Central Government fails to take a positive decision with regard to separate Telangana state by September 30. It may be mentioned that Komatireddi is the lone minister from the Telangana region who did not participate in the last cabinet meeting and is not attending official duties.

On the other side, 11 other ministers who submitted resignation letters from the MLA's post resumed their duties after their resignation was rejected by the Speaker. Two other ministers - Danam Nagender and Mukesh Goud did not submit resignation. (INN)

Talking to media persons, Nagam alleged that the high command lured the MLAs by offering luxurious cars and bags of money to protect the N Kiran Kumar Reddy Government. Stating that he has evidence to prove his charges, he demanded probe into the entire issue.

Except for Telangana MLA Ch Muthyam Reddy, Nagam alleged that all other MLAs fell into the trap of Congress high command. He said that the Congress party hatched a conspiracy to dilute the Telangana agitation.

TRS slams TD, Cong MLAs for 'losing opportunity'

2011/12/6 12:57:56 The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Tuesday criticised the Congress MLAs from the Telangana region for voting against the No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao said that the MLAs of Praja Rajyam Party and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen have bargained with the Congress Government to extend support to defeat the No Confidence Motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party. However, he said that the Congress MLAs from the region have missed the opportunity and failed to get any assurance on the Telangana statehood issue. "Why did they surrendered themselves before the Congress High Command?," he asked

Questioning the silence of Telangana Congress MLAs Tarakarama Rao said that the MLAs could have easily bargained for withdrawal of cases against the Telangana activists besides getting an assurance from the High Command on the statehood issue. However, without asking for anything, they simple voted to save the government, he said.

The TRS MLA was also critical of Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu for not speaking anything on Telangana. He said, "During the discussion, Mr Naidu spoke about 15 different topics. But he deliberately skipped the most important topic of separately Telangana." The TDP's Telangana MLAs, especially M Narasimhulu and Revanth Reddy enacted 'drama' by raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans in the assembly, he alleged.

Tarakarama Rao said that the people of Telangana region would teach a fitting lesson to both Congress and TDP MLAs for missing the opportunity to get an assurance on Telangana. (INN)
