Shamshabad blues 2007/12/15 3:46:21 The date for the inauguration of the new International Airport at Shamshabad is fast approaching. With less than three months to go for the inauguration of the airport, the state government is now worried about the connectivity issue.
The government is yet to begin work on the Mass rail transport system. It would be a virtual challenge for people going to Shamshabad to catch flight. With the present traffic jams, people are already worried about the prospect of having to catch a flight from Shamshabad.
The measures of the government like introducing cabs and special buses hardly address the problem. A dedicated rail corridor connecting the airport from various parts o the city is the only solution. But it is still nowhere in sight.

Passenger amenities woefully inadequate at new airport 2008/3/25 2:42:22
The passengers as well as the visitors who come to the airport to receive or send off their relatives are having a tough time. There are not proper arrangements to seat the passengers’ as well s visitors at the visitors lobby. There are hardly 50 seats at each level! This is wholly inadequate as the seating will barely suffice the requirement as thousands of the passengers will be t he airport at any given time.
The visitors as well as passengers are also having a tough time in terms of refreshments. There is just one outlet in the visitors lobby serving beverages and snacks like samosas and puffs. The prices are also prohibitively expensive. A cup of coffee costs 60 rupees and a single puff about 30 rupees. The rates inside the terminal are even higher, a cup of coffee is priced at 100 rupees and a plate of idly will lighten your purse by 120 rupees. RGIA – Love at first sight 2008/3/25 2:20:11
The newly opened Rajiv Gandhi International airport at Shamshabad has opened to some mixed repose by passengers. The sprawling Greenfield airport looks majestic amidst vast expenses of greenery. The airport is a visual treat with open structure with glass frontage.
The airport has three levels. The ground floor has been reserved for car parking. The first floor is for arrivals and the second level is for departures. The airport offers a majestic view of the runway and also the parked aircraft in the parking bay. Children in particular are enjoying the majestic view, the escalators and the colourful aircraft belonging to different airlines parked in the parking bays.
The only glitch is that the airport is a bit too far from any point in the city. The inner ring road and the outer ring road will take at least another one year to complete. The PV Narasimha Rao expressway from Masab Tank to the airport is also likely to take anywhere between 6 to 9 months to be completed. Till then the passengers will have to bear the traffic snarls and bottlenecks at various points to the airport.

Is TV9 Blackmailing GMR? 2008/5/17 11:53:23 Is the 24x7 private TV news channel TV9 blackmailing the GMR group. It appears so going by the way the channel has been playing up a story on the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
The airport has been built by the GMR group. The TV9 story focused on the poor amenities for passengers at the airport and the woes of passengers in term of parking etc.
The story also threw light on the lax security arrangements at the airport. So far so good. The channel first telecast the story on Wednesday. It repeated the story several times on Wednesday. Many people were surprised to see an old story appearing on the 24 hours 'breaking news' channel for the umpteenth time on day two.
But the biggest surprise was that the same story was telecast once again on day three i.e. Friday. People who watched the story on all three days were seen murmuring as to what could be the motive of TV9 in repeating the same story day after day. Are they trying to extract something from GMR?

SHC ignores returning Haj pilgrims 2011/11/13 13:38:11 The Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee has given a complete miss to the Haj pilgrims who started returning home in the early hours of Sunday. Unlike the warm send-off that was given to 8,028 pilgrims last month, the SHC appears to have decided to simply ignore their return journey. The first flight of Saudi Airlines carrying 295 pilgrims touched down the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad at 5.05 am on Sunday, after two hours delay. However, the SHC did not make any arrangements at the airport for the pilgrims or their relatives who had to wait in open for several hours. Nearly 2,000 relatives and friends have come to the airport to receive the pilgrims. However, except for a tent, the SHC made no other arrangement. Of 25 members of the SHC, only three persons including Chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, CEO G Mahboob Peeran and a clerk came to the airport. However, their focus was not the pilgrims, but the Minority Welfare Department secretary Mohammad Ali Rafat who returned after performing Haj.Andhra News : SHC ignores returning Haj pilgrims
