    SRK unveiled at Madam Tussauds

    2007/4/4 23:39:48

Madame Tussauds witnessed a gala event to welcome Shah Rukh Khan, as his statue found abode in the prestigious Madame Tussauds wax museum. The long haul came to an end on 3rd April 2007, when his statue was unveiled before an excited audience.

Shah Rukh flew down to the London museum with wife Gauri Khan. The proud duo posed next to his wax statue, which looked like the exact replica of Khan, thanks to the precise measurements of his physical features taken earlier this year. Shah Rukh experienced a grand reception from the management.

As a part of the promotions, Madame Tussauds designed a typical Bollywood-style poster saying "Shah Rukh Khan stars in Madame Tussauds". The visitors had a chance to get their personalized copy of the Bollywood poster, after being photographed with the actor. Whether they would have been lucky enough to pose with SRK in person instead of his wax statue is uncertain! A 50-minute biopic showcasing Khan's journey to stardom was screened after the statue was uncovered. All in awe of Khan, the museum's library also stocked his pictorial biography Still Reading Khan.

SRK's wax statue stands tall in the museum now. It is hard to distinguish the real Khan from his imitation. The similarity between the two is simply outstanding!

SRK to join the Mahatma in Paris

    2008/2/2 0:35:24

The renowned Grevin Museum prepares to unveil the actor’s wax replica this April — he’ll become the only other Indian besides Gandhi in the museum, reports Shilpa Jamkhandikar.

One wax statue at London’s Madam Tussauds isn’t enough for Shah Rukh Khan. The superstar is now set to be moulded in wax for the second time - this time at the famed Grevin Wax Museum in Paris this April.

What’s even more interesting is that King Khan will become the only living Indian to have his statue installed at this museum. The only other Indian whose statue graces Grevin’s is none other than Mahatma Gandhi. The Grevin Museum is a well known international museum of wax statues and boasts an impressive collection of wax figures, including Michael Jackson and Celine Dion.

Shah Rukh has spent hours for the ‘sittings’ for the making of the statue during his frequent visits to London. “Shah Rukh is very popular in France, and the unveiling of the wax statue is scheduled to be a huge event in Paris. Shah Rukh, of course, has already promised that he would be present for it,” said a source.

In fact, compared to the replica at Madame Tussaud’s, this one is supposed to have more of a likeness to the star and Shah Rukh himself is said to be impressed with the handiwork of the artisans. Shah Rukh is expected to unveil the statue at a grand function which may also be attended by a few of his close Bollywood friends.

Well, it sure seems like France is as besotted with Shah Rukh as India is, what with the government there having just honoured him with the Insignia of Officer in the Order Arts and Letters and is extremely keen that he visit Paris to promote Indian cinema there. Good going!

    Wax statue biggest honour: Kareena

    2011/11/11 7:30:39

(IANS) Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, who has been immortalised in wax at Madame Tussaud's, says it is an honour to be in the league of Indian luminaries like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar.

"I think being waxed at Madame Tussaud's is one of the biggest honours I have ever received. In my whole career, I think to be given this particular honour is very rare," said Kareena.

The 31-year-old, who made her debut with "Refugee" in 2000, gives credit to her fans.

"It is obviously because of you guys and all my fans who have made it possible and made my dream come true," she said.

Kareena's wax statue, which cost 150,000 pounds, was unveiled at the musuem in Blackpool Oct 27, a day after the release of her latest film "RA.One".

"I never really thought that I would be waxed or that my statue would stand besides that of famous personalities in museum. Whether it is Mr. Bachchan, or Shah Rukh or Sachin Tendulkar.... really never thought I would be standing next to them. But thank you guys for making my dream possible," she said.

Currently, the actress has her kitty full with projects like "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu", "Agent Vinod", Reema Kagti's untitled project and Madhur Bhandarkar's "Heroine".

    Ex, and why?

    2007/11/15 12:29:44

Thanks to London's famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and former flame Salman Khan will get to be together. Well, we're talking about their wax statues at the museum.

Salman's statue at the museum will be unveiled in January 2008. As for Aishwarya, she already has a statue dedicated to her at the museum. Our source says, "There is a plan to put Salman's statue besides Aishwarya's. This will immortalise them together."

The reasons for placing the statues together are purely business oriented. "After Shah Rukh Khan's wax figure in Madame Tussands was unveiled, business quadrupled. If Salman and Aishwarya's statues are paired together, business will further multiply. Same goes for Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie and David-Victoria Beckham," the source adds.

When contacted, Salman Ahmed (Group Managing Director of Bobby Khan Holdings who now have the rights to open Madame Tussands in Mumbai) says, "There has never been any branding in Madame Tussands, but recently, we have been inundated by offers from large corporates from India. A new zone called the Bollywood Zone is being created. All four statues - Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan) will be in that zone," he added.

Ahmed does not deny the news about Salman's statue being placed next to Aishwarya's. "There is a good possibility for everything, depending on the demand and of course, Madame Tussauds authorities in London," he says.

Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan were in the running for the fourth statue from Bollywood, at Madame Tussauds. However, after a poll, Salman emerged victorious and his statue was commissioned.

    Kareena unveiled at Tussauds

    2011/10/27 10:36:38

New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Thursday unveiled her wax statue at the Madame Tussauds museum in Blackpool, Britain.

"It is an honour and a privilege for me to have my own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Blackpool and even more so to launch a global Bollywood exhibition. This is a moment of pride for the Indian cinema," Kareena said in a statement.

It took four months to create the wax statue, which cost 150,000 pounds.

"The figure looks incredible and is so life-like. I had to do a double take when I saw myself - they have really done a superb job at capturing my essence," she added.

The unveiling of Kareena's wax figure also flagged off a global exhibition, where the statues of Bollywood stars will be taken to six major cities around the world to be exhibited, before they are brought back to Blackpool in January next year.

Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai too have their wax figures in Tussauds'.

Where is Big B's wax figure today?

    2007/1/7 7:56:48

A copy of the wax figure of Amitabh Bachchan, identical to his statue at Madame Tussaud's in London, was flown down to Mumbai and unveiled by Big B himself at the Filmfare Awards, 2001. So, where is the statue today?

Big B was clearly pleased with his wax look sake and took great pride in it. In fact, later, he unveiled the statue again in an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, especially for his game show audience.

Since then the statue found permanent residence in Big B's posh KBC office at Film City, where he kept it along with his other possessions. Needless to say, the statue was high-maintenance. Fifteen air-conditioners had to be kept on at a steady temperature 24/7, all through six years to conserve the wax statue in hot and humid Mumbai. In fact, during the 26/7 deluge in 2005, the first thing that staff of KBC's office had to worry about was the well-being of the statue as it would have been ruined if the office had gone down under.

However, things are different now. The vagaries of life have caught up with both the statue and its master. Now, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to sit on the chair that AB once occupied on KBC. Allegedly, AB was none too happy about this. And soon after he got news of his replacement, he got his KBC office cleared.

Samir Nair, CEO, Star Entertainment India, says, "Mr. Bachchan got his KBC office cleared some time back. He took away his statue, along with the rest of the clutter in the office."

A source close to Big B says, "The statue is very dear to him. Although Mr Bachchan is used to compliments and admiration, the statue is a gesture that touched him. The statue is now at Jalsa. But it's not on display."

So we come back to our original question. Where is Big B's statue today? Is it lying in his attic, with 15 air-conditioners looking after it there too, away from the gaze of guests, or is it in the basement?

The beheaded Amitabh Bachchan wax figure arrived in India on February 14, 2001. That was the best way, officials at Madame Tussaud’s had then said, to get the famous wax statue of the legendary actor across.

"The body is made partly of fibre glass and that will go in the hold," Diane Moon, from the famous wax museum, had said. "The head is far more delicate and I will be carrying that with me in the cabin."

The body travelled in 'a large wardrobe sized case'. The head, however, was another story. "It's very, very fragile," Moon had said.

"It will be kept securely in the cabin where I can keep an eye on it. It might be hot and humid in Mumbai and we'll have to keep an eye on his head. Too much heat could soften the head. But we don't believe it will be hot enough to start melting the wax."

Hazare's wax statue unveiled in Maharashtra

2011/11/20 12:27:46 (IANS) People wanting to see Anna Hazare now won't have to go to the remote Ralegan-Siddhi village or wait for his next agitation. A visit to the Celebrity Wax Musuem here will ensure a 'meeting' with the anti-graft crusader, minus the long queues and the security clearances.

A wax statue of Hazare was Sunday evening unveiled in Varsoli village on the outskirts of this hill-station, around 175 km from Mumbai, vowing the weekend visitors. It was shown to Hazare Saturday at his native village in the adjacent Ahmednagar district."Hazare appeared very pleased at seeing his wax duplicate and even touched it a couple of times out of curiosity," an aide told IANS.

Hazare has donated his trademark Gandhi cap worn during his hunger strike for the Jan Lokpal bill in the capital, and also his clothes for the statue.Celebrity Wax Museum Director Sujith Sukumaran, an acclaimed artist, said Hazare's cap has a great heritage value and would be a treasured possession for the museum.

The statue was unveiled to coincide with the death anniversary of Hazare's mother, he said."Hazare is a hero of this generation. He moved the masses against corruption... That is why we decided to immortalise him in wax," an excited Sukumaran told IANS.

Initially, museum authorities were hesitant about the proposal, fearing Hazare may not permit his wax statue."He not only gave us permission, but took time off from his schedule to patiently give us measurements," Sukumaran said.

The statue has been crafted by India's top wax sculptor Sunil Kandalloor. It took him 25 days to complete the task. The air-conditioned museum has statues of 32 prominent personalities including Mahatma Gandhi, India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, English comic actor Charlie Chaplin, late musician Michael Jackson, and several other living and dead legends.

Next week, a statue of former cricketer Kapil Dev will be inaugurated, followed by similar statues of actors Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Abhishek Bachchan.

Rumours were rife of a fallout between the two friends.

"Can you imagine, we're supposed to have fought over a legal problem that has cropped up over 'RA.One'. If we go by rumours then Shah Rukh and I have fallen out any number of times in the past few years," said Mushtaq, a former journalist who appears in the second-half of "RA.One" as a gun-toting goon.

?It is my chance to intimidate Shah Rukh, something I can never do in real life. So I?m playing out a fantasy and loving it,? he added.

This is Mushtaq?s third cameo in a Red Chillies production with Shah Rukh. He played similarly aggressive cameos in "Main Hoon Na" and "Om Shanti Om".

?I?ve very clearly told Shah Rukh when 'RA.One' becomes a blockbuster, I want my solo posters all over Bandra. He has agreed. But then Shah Rukh never says no to his friends,? he said.

    SRK fulfills Abbas’ dream

    2011/2/21 0:46:24

After being a radio jockey, anchor, presenter, host, theatre artist and actor, Roshan Abbas is now ready with his debut directorial venture Always Kabhi Kabhi, made under Shah Rukh Khan’s banner Red Chillies Entertainment.

A film with SRK’s production house but without Shah Rukh seems a little strange. “I had only one script in hand and I wanted to experiment. But I don’t think experienced stars like to experiment because the commercial aspects of cinema are different for them. I told SRK that I have written a film about teenagers. I don’t need stars for that, but I’d require a big production house and Shah Rukh agreed to that,” says Roshan.

There had been reports that Shah Rukh has done a video for the film and will be seen in a special dance number as well. However, Roshan Abbas clarifies, “That is for you to watch and tell. But let me clarify that Shah Rukh is nowhere in the film.”

But, with Shah Rukh on the producer’s seat, and Roshan still learning the tricks, wasn’t there any interference from the actor? “Shah Rukh has been a great producer and has given me complete freedom. But there were times when I allowed him to take complete ownership. He knows the pulse of cinema,” says Roshan. He hopes to cast Shah Rukh in his next film if things go well.

Would never release a film during IPL: Shah Rukh

    2012/4/3 4:00:06

Mumbai, April 3 (IANS) Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who co-owns an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, believes that releasing films during the tournament is a risk that he would never take.

"If someone is releasing it (a film), they know what they are doing. But I would actually think twice, especially in the middle of the tournament. In the beginning yes, you can take a chance, but not in the middle and never at the end, I wouldn't release a film," the 46-year-old, who co-owns Kolkata Knight Riders, said here at the unveiling of Nokia brand campaign for IPL 5.

"If you are going to analyze it some people are releasing their films, yes they are taking a chance because the matches happen mostly 8-11 so that show can be affected if it's an important match. I would think about it if I am releasing a film as a producer," he added.

Shah Rukh says there are filmmakers, who hold back films and decide on releasing them post-IPL.

"People do wait for IPL. Post-IPL has become a period where people assume that there is a want of films and you will release your film as soon as the season gets over. So that tells you that is an important part where people hold back their films," Shah Rukh said.

Shah Rukh is back from London after a shooting schedule for Yash Raj's untitled film, which also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
