Hinting that any solution to the contentious separate Telangana issue would not be forthcoming soon, Union Health Minister and Congress In-Charge for AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday expressed confidence that the state government would be able to tackle the impending threat of intensified agitations for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Azad told media persons before leaving for the United States that the separate Telangana issue was ‘very sensitive’ and the situation which prevailed immediately after the December 9, 2009 statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has not changed.
“My two-day trip to Andhra Pradesh was part of the Centre’s efforts to solve the Telangana issue, and I had met leaders from across the state. They are a divided lot, with leaders from Seemandhra keen in Andhra Pradesh remaining integrated while the leaders from Telangana keen on a separate state,” Mr Azad said.
Mr Azad’s words come at a time when the Congress leaders from Telangana gave hints that their patience was wearing thin over the separate statehood issue by saying that they planned a last trip to New Delhi on June 9 to push for a solution. “This would be our last trip,” a Minister from Telangana had said on Saturday after a meeting of the ruling party’s Legislators.
He added that the Centre has to choose one of the six options given by the Justice BN Srikrishna Committee to solve the issue.
“Efforts are on to find a solution to the Telangana issue. It will take time, but a solution will be found. We are trying to convince the Legislators from Telangana that a solution would be found and they have to observe restraint, instead of threatening to resign,” Mr Azad said.
He also expressed confidence that the state government would be able to handle any situation arising out of the intensified agitations for Telangana.
“There are some problems being faced by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. He will be able to sort them out. There is nothing major to worry about,” the party In-charge for AP Affairs said.
“We have put in a government of young leaders and they would be able to handle the problems efficiently,” Mr Azad added.
The Congress General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Tuesday that his remarks relating to formation of Telangana state in Beijing were twisted by media which created confusion. Speaking to media persons he said that what he intended was not to create any controversies.
He said that the people of three regions could sit together and sort out the issue. The people have been living in unison with love and affection for centuries together and they should continue to live like this in the centuries to come.
He further said that the Srikrishna committee in its report gave six options and did not give one single solution; therefore we are trying to find out a rightful solution to the tangle. This is a long process and naturally will take a long time.
After meeting the Seemandhra delegation consisting of 60 leaders he said that he could not have talks with a huge delegation, if small groups from all the three regions come forward we can have fruitful talks, he added. There are differences of opinion which could be sorted out by dialogue.
Azad further said that he spoke to K. Jana Reddy and K. Keshav Rao for two three times and even he spoke to them today.
Asked if there is any proposal to solve the issue before the ensuing Monsoon session of the Parliament, he retorted the Problem is long standing and cannot be solved overnight. (INN)
Despite Azad’s statement, will go ahead with last Delhi trip: KK
2011/6/6 9:34:40 Congress leader from Telangana K Kesava Rao on Monday brushed aside the hints given by Union Health Minister and Congress In-Charge for AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad that any solution to the contentious separate Telangana issue would not be forthcoming soon, by saying that the proposed ‘last trip to New Delhi’ on June 9 and 10 would go ahead as scheduled.
Mr Kesava Rao told media persons at his residence that the Congress leaders from Telangana would indeed stick to the deadline of June 20 given by them on Saturday and adopt an agitational approach from July, if the Centre does not take a concrete announcement on the separate statehood demand.
The senior Congress leader was reacting to the remarks of Mr Azad in New Delhi where he said that the separate Telangana issue was ‘very sensitive’ and the situation which prevailed immediately after the December 9, 2009 statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has not changed.
Mr Azad had hinted that the Centre would need more time to choose the best possible of the six options given by the Justice Srikrishna Committee in its Report.
Mr Kesava Rao also sought to allay any apprehensions which might arise from Mr Azad’s statement by saying that the comments are not indicative that the Centre was trying to delay a decision.
“Mr Azad did not say that the Centre would delay its decision, he said that the issue is sensitive. Do not read between the lines please,” the Rajya Sabha Member stated.
Reacting to questions that the next PCC president might be from Telangana, Mr Kesava Rao said that the origins would not matter. “The next PCC president’s dedication towards the fight for Telangana is more important,” he said.

He denied the rumours that appeared in a section of media that the Centre has summoned Governor ESL Narasimhan to discuss the likely President’s Rule in the state.

"I came to know that some people are comparing the issue with UP and MP bifurcation case. It is totally a different case. Both the states have agreed for the bifurcation and it was done. But, where as the AP is concerned neither side of the people are willing to co-operate with each other, and it makes the issue more complicated. That’s why, I plan to discuss with representatives of 3 regions and find an amicable solution for the Telangana issue. So far, I talked to Jana Reddy and Kesav Rao. They have positively responded to my proposals. On the other hand PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana has also made some progress from his side and he has briefed me about the progress. I am confident that, soon we can find an amicable solution to this issue,”said Azad.
2011/11/11 6:30:25 Congress in-charge of state affairs and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday hinted that the decision on Telangana might be delayed further.

But the talks with the national level leaders are yet to take place. Therefore, the Centre would take a decision on the Telangana statehood issue only after holding the meetings with the national level leaders, he said.

Seemandhra Congress leaders have met him at his office in New Delhi on Thursday night to express their views on bifurcation of the State. They said “We have told him if the state is divided into two, many more such demands may surface from the other states. Moreover, development of state will also slows down if the state is divided. In such case, it will leads to growth of naxalism in the state. Although, there were agitations taking place in Seemandhra in full fervor, since there is no media coverage for them they go unnoticed. We also made it clear, if the Center succumbs to the pressure from Telangana leaders and plans to divide the State, then we also ready to submit our resignation letters and go on agitations.”
Ghulamnabi Azad has assured them that he will negotiate with leaders of both sides to find an amicable solution.
2011/9/28 8:45:45 Incharge of Andhra Pradesh Congress affairs and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday made it clear that no clear-cut deadline could be set to resolve the Telangana issue.

However, he would submit the report to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the next two days.
"We are conscious of what is happening in Telangana, particularly the inconvenience being caused to the general public due to employees' strike, closure of colleges and schools. We know the gravity of the situation and we would like to have an early resolution," Azad said. He also added that wider consultation would be needed to formulate a solution to the Telangana issue.
Azad also expressed regret over the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009 announcing the formation of Telangana State. He said the statement was made without studying the depth of matter and that became the root cause of problems which have emerged now. However, this time the Centre would come out with a permanent solution on the Telangana statehood issue and that would be acceptable to all sections, he said.
Azad clarified that the consultation process with the Congress leaders on the statehood for Telangana region has completed. He said that the report that he has prepared, based on those consultations and other inputs that he got from the region, might be kept in public domain for suggestions and discussion. (INN)

Mr Rajanarasimha, presently in New Delhi to thank the High Command for elevating him to the Deputy Chief Minister’s post, had earlier met Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and expressed his gratitude for entrusting him with the responsibility.
He had later called on Mr Azad where he briefed the Union Health Minister about the latest political situations in the state, vis-ŕ-vis the separate statehood demand.
Mr Rajanarasimha, in his interaction with the press later, said that the issue of establishing Regional Councils in Telangana did not figure in his meeting with Mr Azad.
He also expressed confidence that the Centre would soon solve the issue of ‘Hyderabad as Free Zone’ by deleting the controversial Clause 14 F in the Presidential Order of 1975.
Mr Rajanarasimha has met Union Minister of State for Railways M Muniyappa and appealed him to expedite the completion of pending railway projects in the state.

2011/7/21 18:19:23 Andhra Pradesh Congress political affairs in-charge Ghulamnabi Azad has announced ‘100-days-negotiations’ formula on Telangana issue yesterday. Speaking to Congress Telangana leaders who come to meet him, he said from Friday onwards he will start negotiations with leaders of both regions to find an amicable solution to Telangana issue. He assured the Congress Telangana leaders that, he can find a solution before 100-days deadline.
However, he told them he can’t name the negotiations as ‘negotiations for Telangana formation’ as it will stop the other region leaders to attend the negotiations. Hence he termed it as ‘Negotiations of Telangana issue.’
Although, the Congress Telangana leaders initially oppose him, later they have agreed to his proposal and will attend the 1st round of negotiations from Friday. They have made it clear, other than Telangana state formation they agree for nothing. They also warned him that, incase if he try to prolong the issue in the name of negotiations, they will commit suicide in the parliament. They have bluntly refused his request to withdraw their resignations so as the Government in state could start functioning. They said, until they get a firm assurance from the Government they won’t withdraw their resignations.
Ghulamnabi Azad told them that, their decision not to withdraw the resignation letters will adversely affect the Governance in the state and also retrieve the growth that takes place since last few decades in the state. But, the Congress Telangana leaders prefer to stick to their decision leaving Azad disgruntled.
2011/7/23 3:59:23 Law and Courts Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy maintained that the issue of Telangana should be solved amicably and through discussions, as this was the only option.
“Whether it is one month or two months discussions must be held to thrash out a solution,” said the Minister on the spur-of-the-moment interaction with media persons at the Secretariat on Saturday.
The Minister said that he been told by Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad during a meeting recently that he (Azad) would speak to all the leaders on the said issue.
Asked about the stand of Seemandhra leaders, Mr Pratap Reddy gave his personal opinion that ‘discussions’ were the only alternative.
The Minister, who represents Srisailam Assembly constituency in Kurnool district, had been inducted into the state Cabinet for the first time though he won the seat for three terms as an MLA.
Mr Pratap Reddy had lost his Atmakur constituency after reorganization of constituencies in 2009 and is known as an undisputed politician and a strong party loyalist.
Asked to comment on YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy moving the Supreme Court, the Minister doubted the integrity of the former. “If you are honest, where is the necessity to run after the Apex Court?” he shot back.
The Minister found fault with the Ysr Congress Party chief for seeking a stay on the direction of the High Court which had earlier directed the Central Bureau of Investigations to probe into his assets and ill gotten wealth, under the cover of his father and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is expected to visit Guntur district and the Law Minister has been appointed as the In-Charge Minister of the district.(INN)

A delegation of Telangana Congress leaders met Ghulam Nabi Azad and complained of injustices done to Telangana leaders the recent Cabinet expansion. MLC Rudraraju Padmaraju expressed dissatisfaction over seniors being ignored in the Cabinet expansion. He demanded Azad to direct the Chief Minister to take steps for filling of nominated posts with party seniors immediately. “All party seniors should be awarded with party posts irrespective of regions and their services should be utilised for strengthening the party,” he demanded.
The 20-member delegation also appealed to Azad to take a decision on the Telangana state issue soon. The delegation informed Azad that the party leaders from the region were not in a position to visit their constituencies if the Centre delays the statehood issue further. They said the Centre should resolve the tangle before the Assembly elections to five states. ”We don’t want any financial packages for the region. All problems can be solved only through formation of Telangana," the delegation said.
MLA K Lakshma Reddy appealed to Azad to allot sufficient funds for the development of Telangana region to complete pending irrigation projects.
Azad assured the delegation that he would convey their demands to high command.
The delegation comprised of MLAs Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, Nandishwar goud, Kavitha, Kishta reddy, Arepalli Mohan, K Sridhar, Cheruku Muthyam reddy, Prasad kumar, Abraham and MLCs Indrasena Reddy, Bhupal reddy, Rajalingam, Rayapati srinivas, Mohan reddy and Rangareddy.

2011/10/2 6:23:37 Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday stated that the high command would find a early solution to creation of Telangana.
Talking to media persons at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad before proceeding to Vijayawada to participate in Satyagraha of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Azad said that the high command needs some more time to start consultations with national level leaders on the sensitive statehood issue to emerge consensus. He said the consultation process with Seemandhra and Telangana leaders have been completed so far.
Azad appealed to employees participating in the general strike, which entered 20th day on Sunday, to stop agitation and resume to their duties as it was causing lot of inconvenience to people besides causing huge loss to state exchequer.
Responding to a question, he said that the Telangana issue should not be linked with Jammu and Kashmir problem. (INN)
2011/7/17 0:39:15 The Congress core committee meeting held at New Delhi on Saturday night has failed find any amicable solution to the burning Telangana issue. According to reports, the committee has planned to throw the ball into State political court by asking the state political parties to find an amicable solution through discussions. If, they could find an amicable solution to the problem, then the Center is ready to implement their decision without delaying any further. This is an unexpected development for TRS, Telangana Congress and TDP leaders who were expecting a favorable decision from Congress high command. It is learnt that, Gulamnabi Azad will bring both sides to negotiation table. While, Samaikyandhra leaders may welcome this decision, pro Telangana leaders may protest it.
The burning Telangana issue seems to be turned a nightmare for Congress party and it's UPA Government. The Bakrid-festival-deadline to announce its stand on Telangana issue was over long ago and still it is hanging in dilemma over the issue. In an effort to overcome this problem, the core committee is meeting regularly but in vain.
Even on Monday the committee consisting all the top brass like Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukharji, Home Minister P.Chidambaram, Defense Minister AK Anthony, Ahmad Patel and Gulamnabi Azad have put their heads together to find a solution for the burning Telangana issue. But, their two hours long meeting is said to be ended without any outcome.
When the root cause of the problem is lying at the state how anyone can expect to find solution at New Delhi. Instead of trying to bring Seemandhra and Telangana leaders to negotiation table to find an amicable solution, Congress party is trying to find a solution on its own which is a very difficult. Unless, the leaders and the scholars of both regions sit together and chalk out their differences over the bifurcation, it is highly impossible to find an amicable solution to this problem. We need not to be surprised even if the Congress party suggests the same at the end of its core committee meetings.
T Cong leaders seek to prove legitimacy of demand before Azad
2011/7/27 10:52:48 Congress leaders from Telangana on Wednesday did their best to impress party In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad that their demand of separate Telangana state is legitimate, by giving a PowerPoint presentation during their meeting here.
Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah made a presentation on the state of irrigation and agriculture in the region, to prove that the two areas lagged behind the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in terms of development.
The sharing of water resources has been one of the main grouse of the people of Telangana and has largely been the motivator for many a political leader to pitch in the separate statehood demand.
Besides Mr Lakshmaiah’s presentation, MP G Vivek tried to convince Mr Azad on the need for making Hyderabad the capital of the future Telangana state.
The future of the city is seen to be the most contentious of the issues, and a solution is very hard to come by.
This was the second such meeting of the Telangana Congress leaders’ meeting with Mr Azad in as many days. During yesterday’s meeting, Mr Azad had asked the Telangana leaders to arrange a copy of the speech made by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on February 12, 2009 on the Floor of the House.
After giving the Ministers, MPs and MLAs a patient hearing, Mr Azad on his part said that he would again talk to them after completing his discussions with Seemandhra leaders.
Mr Azad is believed to have told the delegation that he intends to complete the process of consultations within two months.
He is expected to meet a delegation of Seemandhra leaders on Thursday and hold discussions on them over the vexed separate Telangana statehood issued.(INN)
