The ongoing Sakala Janula Samme, which entered its 22nd day today, has thrown boozers in a tizzy. Alcohol consumers from Telangana region are badly hit because Excise Department officials have swung into action.
In a move that is being seen as `a very harsh one,’ the officials have decided to bring the shutters down on 17 depots and 15 distilleries located Telangana, beginning from today. The stocks will hardly last two days, say excise officials.
This follows the decision of every employee, from the constable to the Joint Commissioners, hailing from the region to join the strike. Out of 27 distilleries in the state, 17 are located in Telangana. As a consequence, sales will fall to dramatic levels, hitting the State ex-chequer very badly.
Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Hyderabad districts have always topped in the sale of liquor. Telangana accounted for 60 per cent of earnings. Officials apprehend that the strike would further reduce revenue generation.
It is normally believed that Dasara festivities usher in an increase in sale of liquor across all counters. However, this season has seen a dramatic gap between the demand and supply.
Excise officers while fixing the annual target for 2011-12 fiscal had projected a twenty per cent increase in turnover from that of the previous year. But the Telangana agitation has added to their woes with most people in the business joining the stir either directly or indirectly.
The Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation managing director had said that liquor sales was around 43000 cases less than the scheduled sales due to the Telangana movement. The Excise Department’s revenue was estimated at Rs 1124 crore, which was significantly less than that of the projected figure. (INN)
Just how much can a few photographs do to you? Actually a lot!
On the cover of a reputed lifestyle magazine, she has been featured as a style icon where she has shed her inhibitions and appeared in a clothing line that leaves little to imagination. The good part about her photographs both on the cover and inside the magazine is that she never once looks vulgar or cheap and carries herself with aplomb.
Amisha Patel has long been considered as a goody-two-shoes girl who just knows two things - giggle or weep! She has played a coy'n'docile female in so many films since her 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' debut years back that one has almost lost count.
With the latest photo shoot she has done, Amisha has certainly rediscovered herself and gained a lot more fans than she has over the years. Now it's over to Bollywood dream merchants to recognize this new facet of hers and cast her in ultra glam roles in their films.
Red Swastik,a psycho thriller is the story of an extremely devious serial killer who goes about her mission with a sense of social rectitude. Yet when she is not an angel of death, she is an extremely beautiful and loving human being whom you would like to protect and preserve in your heart.
In a bedroom of a a very plush apartment in Mumbai, a middle aged corporate honcho is brutally stabbed to death soon after a wild love making act during the day. The man had apparently engaged the lady when his wife was away to Kolkatta on a business trip.
The police is sent into a tizzy because the killer paints a 'Swastik' on the forehead of the victim in his own blood which indicates that it is the act of a serial killer who leaves identical signs in several similar retributory executions in Delhi and a few other towns. Soon more such killings are discovered in Mumbai too.
As the hot chase ensues, what emerges is not the simple case of a uni-dimensional psychopath killing on whims, but of a very complex split personality of a psychotically bewildered being. At times tantalizingly sensuous with insatiable sexuality, fiercely protective with maternal possessiveness; brutally unsparing with the fury of an avenger as well gratifyingly warm and caring with the sincerity of a true lover.
The sad revelation in finality is not that of an abhorrent monster but of a vulnerable and beautiful human being who uses her inescapable sexuality merely as a weapon for social rectitude.

A temple for Khushboo created a stir. Her visit to a court also creates a stir.
Khushboo has been beset with some problem or other. It was her issue against Thankar Bachchan, the chastity comments issue and then the obscene pic in Maxim and now there seems to be another problem on the horizon.
Khushboo's brother Abdul Khan had married the daughter of a US based man Verghese. Now the two are separated, but when they were together, Abdul had borrowed 8 lakhs from Verghese to produce a film. Verghese has advanced the money to Khushboo and asked her to give it to her brother but that did not happen.
When Verghese asked for his money back, she had promised to write over her house in Bangalore in his name, but that did not materialize. So, Verghese has filed a case in the criminal court in Chennai.
Khushboo applied for an anticipatory bail in advance. The collective magistrate in Egmore asked her to come in person and collect the bail. So, Khushboo went yesterday to Egmore and her petition for anticipatory bail was accepted and given to her.
2011/7/13 8:48:45 The masse indefinite hunger strike by the students of Osmania University, aimed to build pressure on the Centre to delete the controversial Clause 14 F from the Presidential Orders of 1975 and for the introduction of a separate Telangana Bill in Parliament entered its third day on Wednesday.
The hunger stir, launched by the students in response to a call by the OU Students Joint Action Committee, continued despite the attempts of the police to thwart it by preventative arrests and appeals from pro-Telangana leaders like Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
KCR had urged the students to call off their fast, saying that their lives were precious and the separate statehood agitation was launched for their bright future.
However, the fasting students made it clear they would not withdraw their stir till Telangana is announced by the Centre. OUS JAC leaders however welcomed KCR’s appeal and said that “there is no question of withdrawing our fast till Telangana is announced.”
Meanwhile, some students of the Kakatiya University too continued their mass hunger fast in that university campus as part of their agitation for separate Telangana state.(INN)

People in Karnataka, including tech hub Bangalore, are in for frequent power disruptions as the agitation for a separate Telangana in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has hit power production, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje indicated Monday.
"We may also have to resort to load shedding (power cuts) both in urban and rural areas (if the agitation prolongs)," she told reporters here.
The agitation for separate statehood for Telangana has disrupted coal supply to thermal power plants in Raichur and Bellary in north Karnataka, Karandlaje said.
The stir has also hit power supply to the state from central grid. The state used to get 1,200 MW daily from central grid but the amount has now come down to 900 MW, she said.
The combined effect has resulted in a shortfall of 1,500 MW of power per day for the state, Karandlaje said.
The huge shortfall meant frequent power disruption in many areas in Bangalore and other parts of the state since Monday morning.
Karandlaje said state was planning to buy power from Oct 1 from power-surplus states to tide over the crisis.

SJ Suryah will direct this film. The film will go to the set on June 23. Singanamal Ramesh is producing the film on the Sri Kanakarathan Movies banner.
The chairman of the T JAC Kodandaram has said that they will intensify the agitation for separate Telangana. The T outfits will intensify stir from May.
Kodandaram said that they will also go to Delhi soon and set up a National T JAC.
The scorching summer has left guzzlers in a tizzy. The much in demand drink chilled beer is in short supply in the twin cities. The rising temperature coupled with sortage of the stuff has led to a situation where the lovers of beer have to run from one shop to another in search of their popular brand of the bubbly stuff.
The dealers are unable to import the stuff from the neighbouring states as the situation is quite the same there. The situation can be gauged from the facts released by the excise officials. The city has a demand for about 42 lakh cases of beer and the supply was a meager 28 lakh cases.
Is The T-JAC chief Kodandaram really a professor? This is the question that is doing the rounds everywhere. The reason is that a professor would ask the students to study well and prepare hard for exams.
Here is ‘professor’ Kodandaram who is seen all the time asking students to boycott classes and exams and join the stir for separate Telangana. What sort of a professor is he?

The 13,000 odd junior doctors were on strike for the past one-week. They called off their agitation following a three-hour long meting with home minster Jana Reddy. Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is a worried man. The indefinite stir by the government employees in Telangana is not the only issue. The new PCC chief Bothsa Sathyanarayana is giving him sleepless nights.
What is worrying Kiran more is the coming together of Chiranjeevi and Bothsa. Both hail from the same community and hence the close bonding. Kiran is now keeping a close tab on the movement of the two and is thinking of ways to checkmate them.
It is well known that the teeny bopper Nithya Menon created quite a stir by saying that she did not know who Prabhas was. The fans of Prabhas were naturally livid with Nithya for her totally uncalled for comments.
Now, some fans of Prabhas are reported to have sent a pack of DVDs of films of Prabhas like Darling, Chatrapathi, Mr. Perfect etc. The fans are sure that after watching the DVDs Nithya will definitely understand who Prabhas is and what his standing is in the industry.
2007/11/21 6:11:13 Arthi Agarwal's father reportedly pushed a videographer of a popular Telugu news channel when he tried to cover the event on receipt of information that Arthi is getting married.
The media men who gathered at the Arya Samaj temple protested against the indecent behaviour of the heroine's father. They gheraoed at the temple and did not allow their cars to move from the place demanding an unconditional apology. After a few minutes of heated arguments, Arthi Agarwal's father apologised to the incident and the media men called off their stir.
The situation in Andhra Pradesh is now pathetic to say the least. There is no semblance of governance. The state is plagued by many issues – health scare to urea shortage, T stir and what not.
Chief Minister Rosaiah is unable to take any decision on any issue and he seems to be content leaving everything to the high command (read Sonia).
The cabinet is hopelessly divided into Telangana and Seemandhra ministers. The situation is the same among the MLAs and MPs.
All this is naturally making the people to say ‘Sonia sleeps while AP weeps’!
