The peak session of festivals is over and hardly there is any positive atmosphere prevailed in the state for any new films release. The mercury levels shoots-up just in a couple of days and the threat of increasing prices ranging from petrol to power supply scares the people. So, unless a film gets a very positive talk one won't risks to empty his pockets on any film. So, it would be an acid test for any new film to withstand these odd times.
Two films 'My heart is beating' and 'Ishq' which are releasing on 24th will have to prove themselves to drag the audiences to theaters.

The first of the Christmas biggies Dileep's Romeo is releasing this Friday (Dec 14. This film is produced by the comedy director duo Rafi-Mecartin and directed by Rajasenan.
The film was censored and got a clean "U" certificate and is said to be a rip-roaring comedy with Dileep and Sooraj Venjaranmoodu bringing the house down with their antics. The song Kilichundan Mavile… is already a chartbuster. It is Dileep's first film with Vimala.
Romeo is releasing five months after Dileep's last release July 4, and he is pinning a lot of hope on this film. He needs a hit badly, as Romeo is releasing big in 47 screens across Kerala on Friday.
Superstition hints that films releasing on the last Friday of the year are box-office disasters
What’s the common factor between ‘I See You’, ‘Shikhar’ and ‘Dil Maange more’?
Well, each of these films came on the last Friday of the past three years-December 29, 2006, December 30, 2005 and December 31, 2004 respectively. Secondly, the three films were box-office failures.
Fact vs fiction Trade pundits and soothsayers have maintained that the last Friday of the year is not a good time for a film to arrive.
The reason cited is that audiences stay away from theatres and choose to be friends and enjoy the New Year revelry.
But this doesn’t seem convincing when you consider ‘Bhagam Bhag’, which was released on December 22 last year but was a hit.
However, film-makers seem to have dropped the towel for December 28 2007, the last Friday of this year.
With just three Fridays at Bollywood’s disposal, there is a sudden rush with as many 10 films releasing between the available days.
Friday, December 7
December 7 will see four films hitting the marquee. Says Sanjay Gupta, whose bouquet of 10 stories spanning different genres ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’ is the biggest release of that week, “I am not worried about the releases alongside my film. I am expecting a fairly neat run.”
Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Khoya Khoya Chaand’ (Shiney Ahuja-Soha Ali Khan), ‘Rama Rama Kyaa Hai Dramaaa’ (Rajpal Yadav, Neha Dhupia and Ashish Chaudhary) and ‘Strangers’ (Jimmy Shergill, Nandana Sen, Kay Kay Menon) will also release during the same week. Asserts Jimmy, “The twists are terrific and director Anand Rai has made a stylish thriller.”
Mumbai, April 3 (IANS) Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who co-owns an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, believes that releasing films during the tournament is a risk that he would never take.
"If someone is releasing it (a film), they know what they are doing. But I would actually think twice, especially in the middle of the tournament. In the beginning yes, you can take a chance, but not in the middle and never at the end, I wouldn't release a film," the 46-year-old, who co-owns Kolkata Knight Riders, said here at the unveiling of Nokia brand campaign for IPL 5.
"If you are going to analyze it some people are releasing their films, yes they are taking a chance because the matches happen mostly 8-11 so that show can be affected if it's an important match. I would think about it if I am releasing a film as a producer," he added.
Shah Rukh says there are filmmakers, who hold back films and decide on releasing them post-IPL.
"People do wait for IPL. Post-IPL has become a period where people assume that there is a want of films and you will release your film as soon as the season gets over. So that tells you that is an important part where people hold back their films," Shah Rukh said.
Shah Rukh is back from London after a shooting schedule for Yash Raj's untitled film, which also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
2007/8/3 11:43:55 Each one of us has some phobia or the other. Shreya the leading lady of Rajnikanth’s Sivaji has Friday phobia. Now those of you who are regular moviegoers will know that all new films release on a Friday. So one can understand her.
But why should Shreya be worried every Friday. She does not have films lined up for release every Friday. We asked her the same thing. And her response? Well she says that as she is part of the film industry, she cares for every one form the industry. So irrespective of whose film is being released on a given Friday, Shreya remains tensed up and hopes that the film will do well at the box –office. Shreya is concerned about the entire film industry.
Pyramid Saimira is finally releasing their much-delayed venture, Sound of Boot, this Friday. The investigative thriller, scripted by Rajesh Jayaraman and directed by Shaji Kailash, has Suresh Gopi playing the lead role of an investigative officer entrusted with the responsibility of solving a murder mystery.
The movie, Pyramid Saimira’s first production in Malayalam, was completed in a short span of just 22 days. Others in the cast include Bala, newcomer Honey, Rajan P. Dev, Murali, Sona Nair, Rizabava, Bheeman Raghu, Maniyan Pillai Raju, Krishnakumar and Biju Pappan.
The Ramzan films are all releasing today (Oct 12), all over Kerala. Four films that releases today are - Nasarani, Chocolate, Black Cat and Pardesi.
The most eagerly awaited among the lot is Mammootty's Nasarani which has been censored on Thursday and is releasing on Friday (Oct 12) at exactly 2.03 pm in the afternoon in nearly 55 screens in Kerala. Joshy the director of the film has insisted on following the advice given by his astrologers! There is huge expectation from Mammootty's fans as he is playing an Adipoli Achayan character David John Kottarathil, and should rock!
Mohanlal fans are on a low key as Pardesi is expected to be an off-beat "award padam'. But the die-hard fans are waiting for a stunning performance from the Master! The film is releasing in 35 screens in Kerala and is Pyramid Saimira's first foray into Kerala.
The trade feels the Pritviraj- Roma-Jaisurya starrer Chocolate, directed by Shafi may turn out to be the dark horse. The film is an out and out Shafi style comedy with peppy music and is targetted at the youth audiences. The film is releasing in 42 centres in Kerala.
The Malayalam film industry is hoping that the Ramzan releases bring some relief to the draught season, especially after the Onam flop show!
Dileep's July 4 scheduled to release on July 4 has been shifted to July 5.
Lal Jose has preponed his Sreenivasan anti- communist film Arabikatha by a week. Now the film will release on July 5, taking on July 4 as it carries very good reports.
Mohanlal and Rafi- Mecartin together for the first time in the laugh riot Hello is releasing now on July 6, Friday. The film has got the best of theatres, and is also releasing simultaneously in Bangalore and Chennai.
All eyes are on Mammootty's Mission 90 days which writer director Major Ravi is desperately trying to finish post production work, censor and release it on July 12, as delay would mean releasing it in Karkadavu Masam, considered inauspicious by the trade.
Three Kannada films that have created big hype – 'Kshana Kshana','Hudugaata' and 'No.73 Shanthinivasa' are releasing on June 1.
'Kshana Kshana' has Dr.Vishnu, Aditya and Prema in the lead directed by popular director Sunilkumar Desai. 'Hudugaata' has hot and happening star Comedy Time Ganesh and Rekha directed by debutant Sanjay and 'No.73 Shanthinivasa' is actor Sudeep's second directorial venture under his home banner in which Shivarajkumar and Dr.Vishnuvardhana make special appearances.
With 'Mungaru Male' and 'Dhuniya' occupying maximum theatres in Karnataka, it is not with a big zeal the three top films are releasing this week. Comedy Time Ganesh 'Hudugaata' releasing after 150 days of his 'Mungaru Male' may bring the crowd but the other two films 'Kshana Kshana' a thriller of Sunilkumar Desai and No.73 Shanthinivasa of Sudeep are big films.
It is a make of break situation for these three films releasing on June 1, as all recent films have been wash-outs due to the rage created by 'Mungaru Male' and 'Dhuniya'. The new mantra in Kannada cinema seems to be innovative content and slick presentation with big banners and superstars taking a back seat.
May is normally the big blockbuster month in world cinema- Hollywood, Bollywood, and Kollywood. Every year without fail, the first Friday and the last Friday of May will see a Hollywood mass movie mainly a big franchise film releasing.
This year from Hollywood, it is Spider-man 3 on May 4 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 on May 25, both big movies with their Tamil versions. Surprisingly there are no big Hindi movies this year, other than Shoot out at Lokhandwala and Cheeni Kum both due on May 25.
As far as Tamilnadu is concerned, there is only one big blockbuster scheduled for release in May- Rajnikanth's magnum opus Sivaji, which according to the trade is due on May 17.
The latest we hear from sources close to Shankar is that they are trying their best to complete post production work of the film and release it on May 26. Remember Shankar's big blockbusters Indian and Jeans were released in the month of May? The leading exhibitors in Tamilnadu are not taking bookings for any new Tamil films in May, as they are all waiting for Sivaji.
Already half a dozen big and small films producers have made it clear that they will release their ventures only a month after Sivaji. Ajit's Kireedam, Vikram's Bheema will announce their release strategy only after the release of the blockbuster film. Along with that some small films too do not want to get in the way of the mighty giant.
About 250 films are scheduled to release in 2007. Are we ready for the deluge?
According to business figures, 2006 was the best year in the history of Bollywood. Banking on the boom, a record number of films (at least 250, say pundits) will release this year. Of which there are 43 prominent films — either produced by big banners or boasting large star-casts.
There are no dull periods in 2007. Producers earlier hesitated releasing films in February and March, (school and college exams!), yet caution is thrown to the wind as Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Eklavya’ and Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Nishabd’ get ready for Feb-March releases.
Yashraj films is breaking their own record by releasing around seven films this year, of which six have already been launched.
However, trade analyst Amod Mehra is a little worried, “The boom is welcome, but so many films releasing at the same time might eat into each others’ market. I think producers are being too optimistic. It is however going to be a make or break year for Bollywood, since everything is going to be gigantic. Corporates are going to participate in a much bigger way and that should help the industry.”
Producer Viveck Vaswani agrees. “We’ve come a long way from the 70s when only 40 films were released annually. The volume is going to be huge this year, thanks to multiplexes. ‘Dhoom 2’ made about Rs 1 crore just from Nariman Point last year and 1.5 crores from the multiplexes in Andheri. My mother who once watched 8 films a year, is watching 20 because of the proximity of the theatres. There will also be a good balance since the number of super deluxe A grade movies won’t be as many, because big stars can only do limited ones.”
However, ‘Trade Guide’, editor Taran Adarsh says stars are not going to be the pull for the movies any longer.
“The emphasis is going to be on stories and scripts. Any film with a good story is going to work and that’s going to be the turning point of 2007.”
Suneel Darshan’s ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’ will release in April. He says it will be interesting to see if creativity will be sacrificed at the altar of quantity. “I am amazed that Mukta Arts is releasing four films in two months, UTV 8 films in 2 months. The numbers have more to do with new-age movies than big films.”
Controversies and length notwithstanding, UTV stands firmly behind Jodhaa Akbar and is even releasing it in Rajasthan.
We are very confident of Jodhaa Akbar and looking forward to people's reactions from Friday onwards,” says Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Distribution and Syndication, UTV. “I am very upbeat about the film and think that people should go and see it,” he adds, dousing the fire of controversies and the rumours that have afflicted the film off late.
The epic love story of Rajput Princess Jodhaa Bai and one of India's greatest rulers ever Akbar deserves a grand premiere. And that's exactly what is slated to happen at IMAX Adlabs in Mumbai where exotic Rajasthani ambience is being created by genius Art Director Nitin Desai. Confirming the news, Kapoor said, “Nitin Desai is working on it and like everything else, he is planning everything to perfection.” Could you elaborate as to what all one can see at the premiere? “It is best that people see it for themselves.”
There have been reports that the deal with the multiplexes is yet to be struck. Will the film release there at all? “We are talking to all the multiplex partners and will reach a fair and reasonable solution for both the parties by the time the film releases,” Kapoor says. Considering there have been protests in Rajasthan, will Jodhaa Akbar be releasing there? “We are releasing in Rajasthan.” Is there any specific area in Rajasthan where the film may not release? “We are releasing at all places.”
On the hindsight, what are your thoughts on the controversies that have dogged Jodhaa Akbar? “I would want people to watch the film and then reach a conclusion,” Siddharth says. In an era of shorter attention spans, don't you think, at 3 hours 20 minutes, Jodhaa Akbar is a bit too long? “Frankly, if a film holds then it holds for the entire duration. If it doesn't then it doesn't even for a two hour film.”
Alright point taken, what about the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film, are they releasing too? “Yes Jodhaa Akbar is being released in Tamil and Telugu as well.” How many prints? “Close to 100 prints collectively.” With the film releasing a day later Valentine's Day, would you call it that it befits the amorous air all around? “At the heart of the film, it's a love story. It's quiet an apt movie for Valentine's Day,” Siddharth Roy Kapoor signs off.
Jodhaa Akbar is the labour of love. In an era of rapid fire moviemaking, one man dared to put up an unbelievable canvas and paint a picture out of the colours of blood and sweat. This Friday, the fate of the movie will be sealed and if first impressions are to be believed, it's an eye opening riveting tale. Whatever may be the end result, but one thing is for sure, the Herculean efforts of the entire team of Jodhaa Akbar ought to be applauded. Let the curtains lift…let the show begin…
2011/4/5 7:08:06 Tollywood handsome hero Daggubati Rana recently has received an award from Sri Kala Sudha Telugu Association in Chennai for his best performance in film Leader directed by Shekar Kammula. Speaking on the occasion Ran said “I was born and brought up at Chennai. I love Chennai and its people. At first, I have planned to start my film career with a Tamil film, but somehow it begins with a Telugu film ‘Leader’ and I am happy it brings me close to you all. I will do a straight Tamil film soon. I believe this would make me feel at home.”
Rana's two films are releasing in this month. The first one is 'Nenu Naa Rakshasi' in Puri Jagannath direction with Ileana playing the female lead is releasing on 7th of April.
His Bollywood debut film 'Dum Maro Dum' is releasing on 22nd of April. Bollywood sex bomb Bipasha Basu is pairing with him in this movie.
Apart from the three big films like Balayya’s PVC, Vishnu’s VN Raju, and Jr.NTR’s Shakti, the other films like 'KSD Appala Raju' 'Timma Raju,' and 'Dongala Mutha' released in this year gives a bad start for Tollywood. Hence, it is creating a negative mood and atmosphere among the film buffs. Hence, it badly influences the upcoming movies also. They were so much disappointed with the films that, now they prefer to go through the movie reviews in the movie web sites before lightening their pockets. Moreover, the high ticket prices and the black marketers further oblige them to think twice of viewing the film in theatres and look for pirated CDs.
Now, all the eyes are turned toward dynamic hero Prabhas’s film Mr. Perfect which is releasing on 7th of April and Power star Pawan Kalyan’s film ‘Teen Maar’ which is releasing with a week gap, that is on 14th of April. Both these films are high budget films and hence the expectations also proportionately very high on these two films.
Next coming is Puri Jagannath, Rana, Ileana combo film ‘Neneu Naa Rakshasi’ and director Sukumaran, Naga Chaitanya, Tamannah combo film ‘100% Love.’ While, there is some hype created for Rana’s film, some negative talk has already developed for Naga Chaitanya’s film. Both these films are releasing on 29th of April. Let us see, how many of these four will win the summer race.
Mumbai, Feb 8 (IANS) Imran Khan says that his wife Avantika's invaluable suggestions have helped him in his career.
"I have always felt that when Avantika sees my films, criticises something and points out some flaws, that is always correct, always spot-on. I always take her opinion into account," said the 29-year-old who married his long-time girlfriend in January 2011.
His romantic comedy "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu" is releasing Friday. Meanwhile, the actor is pretty excited about working with Vishal Bhardwaj in "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", in which he will team up with Anushka Sharma, Shabana Azmi and Pankaj Kapur.
2008/3/19 5:49:19 Two films are releasing tomorrow. While one film has a 40 plus ‘young man’ as hero, the other film has a 20 plus youngster in the lead role. The film John Appa Rao 40+ and Aatadistha are releasing tomorrow. The old and the young hero will vie for box office honours.
Krishan Bhagavan and Simran are the lead actors in John Appa Rao. Nitin is the hero in Aatadistha. Simran is desperately looking for a big hit and this is her last film in her second innings.
2006/11/28 3:54:27 There has been large scale registration of films for dubbing with the AP State Film Producers Council as the latter imposed a ban on them from November 13. By the deadline date, a total of 113 films were registered thus defeating the very purpose of the ban. Even if the council is very particular to impose the ban, it will take at least two years as the films, numbering around 120, that were already registered with it will have to be released.
At the same time, some producers were ready to defy the ban and were ready to face the consequences by releasing the dubbing films. One producer reportedly claimed, 'I know that the council will not allow me to utilise the concession on advertisements and other things. But I have no fears and am ready to go ahead.'
While 96 straight films were released during this year, about 78 dubbed films were also released simultaneously. During the corresponding period last year, the gap is very big. Of the 130 straight Telugu films, there were only 65 dubbed films.
Though it remained just 50 per cent, the council took a hard decision to ban the dubbed films, claiming that the straight films and low budget films are not getting theatres to screen their film because the dubbed films are occupying them.
The fans of Mahesh Babu are happy with the film clearing the censors and getting ready to hit the screens on Friday. While there is no problem about the film releasing in Andhra and Ceded there is still some uncertainty in Telangana.
The fans fear that the T-activists might disrupt the screening of the film or at least put some spokes in the smooth running of the film.
2008/4/22 8:54:08 It is going to be a real treat for movie lovers in summer. Some top stars are gearing up to entertain the audience with their films. On May 1 Allu Arjun's 'Parugu' will hit the screens. On May 7 Jr. NTR will hit the screens with Kanthri. Prabhas and Trish will come up with Bujjigadu made in Chennai on May 16. Balakrishna's Pandurangadu is releasing on My 28.
In addition, at least another 10 small to medium films like 'Errasamudram', 'Brahmanadam Drama Company', 'Bathukamma ' , 'Ekaloveyudu' etc. are also getting ready for release in May
2006/10/1 12:40:12 An emergency Meeting was held by the Kannada Film Producers Union on Friday evening with its 150 member team and came to concrete decision to withhold all the muhuraths of Kannada films from the 2 nd of October until their problems are solved. This meeting was headed by Sandesh Nagaraj, Producers Association President and Smt.Parvathamma Rajkumar. Sa.Ra.Govindu and Rockline Venkatesh extended their support to the decisions taken by the Gild even though they have not attended the meeting on Friday.
A statement made by one of the exhibitors saying that - Can any Kannada hero give a confirmation that all the four shows of his films would be full? - has annoyed many members of the Kannada film industry.
Kannada films have been suffering from a loss of nearly Rs.60 crores from more than 50 films released in the last nine months. This is considered as an important reasons to come to the above decision.
The following are measures to be taken:
* From the 2nd of October no film is going on to the floor. * Action is going to be taken against films that break the agreement. * For non Kannada films a maximum of 6 prints are allowed in Karnataka. Films like Stalin and Boss which are coming with more than 30 prints are dominating the other films. * Threatre rentals have to be reduced. * Production cost of Kannada films are to be cut down. * The Gild is expecting solutions to the problems from the Cinema Workers Federation, OKKUTA.
I assess the abilities of director before signing films: Nani
2011/7/24 1:46:31 Nani, hardly three film old in Tollywood has said, before signing a movie, he also try to assess the abilities of the director. If, he is satisfied then only he will sign the film. “When, a director comes to narrate me the story line, I visualize his story like a running movie and see how my character is. I don’t believe that being a man or woman is a constraint for making the movies. Talent and creativity are the only two things that reveal the ability of any director. So, I have worked in Sega movie in Anjana’s direction. She did a marvelous job in this film. In fact, ‘Sega’ can’t be said as a story, but should be mentioned as an incident that changes the lives of six characters of this movie.”
“I don’t succumb to pressures or bluff myself to sign any movie. Unless, I am full satisfied, I will never sign any movie. After working some years in the industry, when I turn back and see, I should be proud of my movies. That’s why I am very selective about my films. I don’t bother about the trade analysis and my ranking in the industry. Only thing I know is delivering good films,” said Nani.
His latest film ‘Sega’ is releasing on 29th of July. Nitya Menon has paired with him in this movie. Anjana has directed this movie and Ashok has produced it under Manadesam Movies banner. This film is releasing on 29th of this month.
