The film 'Bathukamma' with Sindhu Tulani in the lead role is now ready to hit the screens on May 1. The timing of the release coincides with the by polls to the seats vacated by the TRS in Telangana. KCR is known to back anything that's even remotely connected to Telangana.
The film is about the rich culture and tradition of Telangana. Will KCR promote the film in a big way by asking his cadre to patronize it? Will he use the film as part of his election campaign to tap the Telangana sentiment among the people in the region?? The producers are hopeful that the film would do well at the box office.
2008/5/8 8:10:08 Well known balladeer, Gaddar, watched the film Bathukamma at the Venkatesa theatre in Hyderabad the other day. H praised director Prabhakar for making a very good film based on the life and culture of Telangana.
Gaddar lamented the fact that even buyers from Telangana did not show any interest in coming forward to distribute the film. Sindhu Tulani is the heroine.
2007/12/17 3:50:10 KCR is grinning from year to year. The reason is that a tableau showcasing the biggest festival in Telangana – the ‘Bathukamma’ panduga has been chosen for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. KCR now feels that this is a god omen and a precursor to a separate Telangana state.
But the congress government wants to send a signal that it is all for a unified Andhra Pradesh. By sending a tableau depicting a Telangana festival, the government wants to show that it is not neglecting Telangana in any way but in fact projecting the rich culture and tradition in a big way across the country.
The just concluded by polls were by far the most interesting and bitterly contested by polls ever in the state. It is none other than the big separate Telangana issue that was the main reason behind the by polls. For KCR, these polls are a do or die battle. The future of KCR as well as that of the TRS hinges on the results of the by polls.
The exit polls have not exactly pleased KCR. Even the pre-poll surveys reported that the TRS was sure to lose some seats.
According to the exit poll results, the TRS may retain about 10 assembly seats from the 16 that it held before the by polls. Out of the four Lok Sabha seats, the TRS is ahead in two and neck and neck in the third seat. So here also, the TRS is set to lose one or two seats.
The ruling congress is expected to bag anywhere between three and four assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat. Even the TDP is expected to romp home with two or three assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat.
The counting will begin at 8.00 a.m. on Sunday and the results will be out in about two hours time, i.e.by 10.00 a.m. Till then the guessing game continues and the leaders are all tensed up.
2008/4/16 8:05:13 The election commission has finally drawn up the schedule for the by polls to the seats vacated by the TRS and for Khairatabad where the vacancy has been caused by the untimely death of PJR. The polls will be held on May 29. The nomination process will commence from March 2. The results will be announced on June 1.
So it is going to be a 'really hot' summer this year. The congress party and the TDP have only something to gain but nothing much to lose. The polls are an acid test for KCR as the onus of getting all the MLAs and MPs who resigned recently elected once again rests on him. There is a strong resistance to some of the candidates from within the party.
The crucial by polls in Kadapa and Pulivendula will be held tomorrow. The situation in Kadapa is tense and the election commission has pressed into service a large number of police personnel in all the places in the two constituencies.
DGP Aravinda Rao stated that all arrangements are in place to conduct polls in a free and fair manner. Additional police forces are being brought in from Tamil Nadu and Kerala to be deployed in Kadapa.
TRS chief K Chandra Shekar Rao claims that the state will go to elections early next year. KCR predicted that there world be snap polls to the state assembly in March 2008. Elections are due only in 2009 but even some congressmen do not rule out advancement of polls in the state.
2008/4/22 8:54:08 It is going to be a real treat for movie lovers in summer. Some top stars are gearing up to entertain the audience with their films. On May 1 Allu Arjun's 'Parugu' will hit the screens. On May 7 Jr. NTR will hit the screens with Kanthri. Prabhas and Trish will come up with Bujjigadu made in Chennai on May 16. Balakrishna's Pandurangadu is releasing on My 28.
In addition, at least another 10 small to medium films like 'Errasamudram', 'Brahmanadam Drama Company', 'Bathukamma ' , 'Ekaloveyudu' etc. are also getting ready for release in May
2011/6/16 5:38:52 Information and Public Relation Minister D K Aruna on Thursday said that the government is willing to conduct the elections for Panchayat Raj institutions, contrary to reports stating that the stay on the polls by a Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court has given the ruling Congress a lifeline.
Talking to media persons after attending the Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, Ms Aruna asserted that the government was willing to conduct the polls for the PR Institutions, in response to calls for clarifications on the High Court ruling.
Asked to clarify the government stand on the High Court’s recent ruling striking down GO 128 in respect of the quota for BCs, the Minister said that the government was in favour of PR elections in the light of Apex Court’s Order that the ceiling of 50 percent be observed.
Earlier, she made clear that the state Cabinet did not discuss on GO 128 at all. “The government is for polls at any time,” Ms Aruna said.
Meanwhile, official sources say that the government has another month’s time, till July 21, to arrive at a decision to go ahead with the said polls.(INN)
2008/5/12 2:09:34 The ensuing by polls are turning out to be a big source of worry and headache to the TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao. Many TRS activist themselves are saying of the record that the party will not be able to retain all the 16 assembly seas and the four parliament seats.
The reasons for the setback are being put squarely at the door of KCR. He is being blamed to have forced the MLAs to quit and go in for fresh polls. Many TRS MLAs have a pos rerecord as legislators in the last fours years. The people in their consistencies are none to happy with their track record.
KCR’s highhandedness and internal bickering will cost the party dearly, say some senior TRS men. By current indications, the TRS is facing an uphill task in two Lok Sabha and eight assembly constituencies i.e. in 50 percent of the seats.
First it was KCR who was given a warning by the OU JAC when he did a ‘U’ turn on who was a Telangana person and who was not.
Now it is the turn of KCR’s daughter Kavitha to get a warning from the OU JAC and Student JAC. The two outfits have warned Kavitha not to go ahead with her one cror Bathukammas.
They pointed out that nearly 700 people gave up their lives for the caus of separate Telangana In light of such a tragedy it is not right to celebrate with Bathukammas.
Others too are making a similar observation. The period going on now is not auspicious and hence it is not at all right to celebrate Bathukamma.
2008/4/17 14:41:50 The Telugu Desam Party chief Chandra Babu Naidu is very optimistic about the chances of the TDP in the ensuing by polls. He says that the fight would be mainly between the TRS and the TDP. The congress party is nowhere in the picture.
Babu is confident that the TDP will put up a good show in the by polls and surprise everyone. Babu reasons that both the TRS and the congress have taken the people for a ride by making false promises.
2011/9/10 7:45:48 The 20-point programme chairman N Tulasi Reddy clarified that the Congress party was yet to decide on whether or not to field a candidate in the Banswada by-election.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Tulasi Reddy said that the party would take decision at an appropriate time regarding Banswada by-polls. He was apparently trying to counter the Telangana Congress Steering Committee's decision to boycott the Banswada by-polls. With this statement, he tried to clarify that the Steering Committee's decision was not official and the party high command would take its own decision on the issue.
Banswada seat fell vacant after MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy quit the TDP to join Telangana Rashtra Samithi. For by-polls Pocharam will be the official candidate of TRS and with the Telangana sentiments running high, it is being assumed that all parties including the TDP, BJP and Congress together would ensure his unanimous election. 2008/5/5 22:08:36 The ‘Prince’ in waiting, Rahul Gandhi, is now taking an active interest in the affairs of the party. He has been touring the country on what is known a ‘Bharat Darshan’ to have a first hand account of the people and the country.
The congress leaders in the state have been toying with the idea of inviting Rahul Gandhi to campaign for the ensuing by polls. But they have realized that it is not possible, so they have now decided on the next best thing. They have sought permission from the party high command to use Rahul Gandhi’s photos in all the campaign posters.
So Rahul Gandhi’s posters will now dot all the places going to polls. Many leaders feel that his photo will lure in the young voters. So it will be Sonia Gandhi, YS Rajashekar Reddy and Rahul Gandhi who will be seen prominently in all the posters. Of course Manmohan Singh will also be there, but a little less prominently.
Has chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy pulled a fast one on TRs chief Chandrashekar Rao. Yes, say some analysts. The TRS MPs and MLAs resigned over the separate Telangana issue. The TRS wants to prove that the Telangana sentiment is very strong by winning back all the seats once again.
KCR has even started his campaign for the by-lections by going on his Thanda Bata. The Election Commission has announced the poll schedule for the Karnataka assembly elections. Everyone expected that the by-polls would be held at the same time as the Karnataka elections.
Now some politicians are expressing doubts if the by-polls would be held at all. Now there is even some talk about advancing the assembly polls. The TRS surely has been caught on the wrong foot for once.
The TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao is all set to produce a movie. The film will be titled ‘Bathukamma’. KCR is scouting for a suitable person to direct the film. The TRS chief disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the National Documentary Film Festival organized by the Karimnagar Film Society at Karimnagar.
KCR regretted that due to his political commitments he was unable to watch films. The last film he watched in the last 20 years was Major Chandrakanth. KCR also revealed that he was a great fan of the late NT Rama Rao.
2007/9/24 23:35:21 The reshuffle of AICC office bearers and the appointment of Rahul Gandhi as the General Secretary has fuelled the speculation of mid-term elections. The congress party is seen as gearing up for mid-term polls early next year.
Initially it was said that if the Communists parties withdrew support to the government at the centre, ten mid-term polls to Parliament would be inevitable. Bur indications in the state also point out to likely mid-term elections to the state assembly too.
Local bodies polls likely to be postponed: Mahidhar Reddy
2011/7/19 10:17:01 Elections to the local bodies are likely to be postponed In the light of current volatile situation in the state.
This was indicated by the Municipal Administration Minister M Mahidhar Reddy here on Tuesday.
The Minister, who had a meeting with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office revealed that though no decision has been taken for now on the issue of local body elections, indications were given that postponement of polls was on the cards.
In the absence of polls to the Panchayati Raj institutions the term of special officers will be extended by another six months.
The current term of special officers would end in September 2011.
The government is contemplating to extend their term by another six months to avoid any crisis.
The Chief Minister is also understood to have hinted that he would discuss the issue again shortly.(INN)
2008/5/8 21:17:26 The by polls to the assembly are now set in motion. Candidates are filing their nominations and have also stared campaigning in a big way. The senior congress leader G Venkataswamy holds a lot of influence among the voters in the region. He is an MP from Peddapalli and the Medaram assembly segment is now going to polls. Medaram is part of the Peddapalli parliament constituency.
Kaka can swing the votes in favour of the congress easily. But it is learnt that he is now going to the US. Is he going out of the country to avoid campaigning for the party and thereby help the TRS indirectly? Sources close to him claim that Kaka is only going to the US to attend convocation at a university where his grand daughter is studying.
2011/9/25 7:50:39 The Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum on Sunday asked the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi to boycott the Banswada by-elections to be held on October 13.
In a letter addressed to both the Congress and TRS, Forum's convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that all political parties together can build pressure on the Centre to announce statehood of Telangana by boycotting the by-elections. He demanded that the both the parties withdraw their candidates from the fray.
It may be mentioned that the TRS has fielded Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and the Congress has nominated Srinivas Goud as its candidates for the by-polls and both of them have already filed their nomination papers. The TDP is yet to announce its stand for the by-elections. In 2009, the Banswada assembly seat was won by the TDP. However, its MLA Pocharam Srinivas resigned from the party and the post to join the TRS, necessitating the by-polls.
However, Dayakar Rao said that the TDP would wait for the response from the Congress and TRS on his request till Monday noon and then the party would take a final decision regarding Banswada by-polls. (INN)
2011/12/1 3:40:37 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday reiterated that it was prepared for mid-term general elections and exuded confidence of winning over 200 parliamentary seats on its own.
"I am not an astrologer so I can't say when and whether the mid-term polls will be held. But I can tell you that the BJP is ready for mid-term polls," BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said in an informal talk with reporters here.
Gadkari said once the BJP crossed the 170-seat mark, allies will start cosying up to it.
"Once we cross the 170-mark we will get a stream of partners and this will expand the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which will come to power," Gadkari said.
