Ambedkar's statue in Assembly premises

Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Thursday assured the delegation of Dalit representatives that he would direct the State Government to install the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar Statue in the Legislative Assembly premises soon.

Addressing Dalits organizations and associations in the State, who came to his chambers to submit a memorandum, Speaker Nadendla Manohar said that he would make sincere efforts for the installation of Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly premises.

The delegation was led by Rural Development Minister D Manikya Vara Prasad. The Dalit leaders also condemned the desecration of five Ambedkar statues in Amalapuram in East Godavari district. They also appealed to the Speaker to direct the government to initiate stern action against those responsible for disfiguring the statues.

They urged Speaker to direct the government to reinstall the statues and take steps to bring normalcy in the region. (INN)

    Install Ambedkar statue in Assembly premises: Babu

    2012/1/27 14:34:50 Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar to use his office to install a bronze statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in the premises of State Legislative Assembly.

    In a letter written to the Speaker on Friday, Naidu said that Dr Ambedkar's statue should be installed in the assembly building as a mark of respect for his contribution towards the constitution and for empowering the lives of depressed classes by providing reservation in jobs and education.

    The TDP chief said that his party has been has favoured Bharat Ratna for Dr Ambedkar and has built Ambedkar Bhavans in all districts during the TDP's regime.

    Expressing serious concern over the desecration of Ambedkar statues by some anti-social elements in Amalapuram, Naidu demanded that the government initiate stringent action against the guilty and take steps to ensure that such incidents do not recur. (INN)

    2012/4/14 6:37:51 State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the government has taken a decision to install constitutional architect Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly premises.

    Talking to media persons after garlanding the portrait of Dr Ambedkar at Assembly Committee Hall to mark his 122nd birth anniversary, Vikramarka said that the government, in principle, has decided to install the Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly premises. However, the government has to identify the exact location for installing the statue. He said that the government would take a decision on this after consulting all-party leaders soon.

    Meanwhile, the leaders of all political parties paid rich tributes to Dr Ambedkar and recalled his services for the nation.

    Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, Labour Minister Danam Nagender and Marketing Minister M Mukesh Goud, Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi and Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan were also present in the programme. (INN)

    Kavitha to go on 48-hour hunger strike

    2012/4/11 0:39:11 Telagana Jagruthi president K Kavitha would sit on a 48-hour hunger strike demanding installation of Dr BR Ambedkar statue in the premises of State Legislative Assembly.

    Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Kavitha said that the she would begin the 48-hour hunger strike from April 14 at Indira Park. She demanded that Ambedkar's statue be installed next to the Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the assembly premises. She said that all political parties have made representation to Speaker Nadendla Manohar requesting him to take steps for the installation of Ambedkar's statue. However, she said no action has been taken in this regard.

    Kavitha also demanded that the State Government should install the statues of Telangana leaders like Kommaram Bhem at Tank Bund. Else, she warned that pro-Telangana activists would halt the re-installation of statues, damaged during Million March, at Tank Bund. She said that large-scale protests would be held across the region if the demands for installation of Ambedkar statue in assembly and Telangana leaders' statues at Tank Bund were not met. (INN)

    2012/1/26 9:23:18 Telangana Jagruthi Organisation president Kavita was arrested by police on Thursday at Tank Bund in Hyderabad. She accompanied by some TRS workers and others have staged a dharna at Ambedkar statue at Tank bund in protest against vandalizing of Dr.Ambedkar statues in Amalapuram and Dhavaleswaram. She plans for a protest march to Assembly demanding an immediate action against the culprits and for installing a statue of Dr.Ambedkar in Assembly premises. However, since she has no police permission for her march, she was arrested by them. Kavita raged with her arrest enters into heated arguments with the police asking them what is wrong with her demands. She warns the Government if it fails to take immediate action on her demands, she will block the Assembly with thousands of people.

    Motkupalli hails Kavitha's fast for Ambedkar's statue

    2012/4/14 6:33:15 Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and MLA Motkupalli Narasimhulu on Saturday hailed Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha for observing 48 hours hunger fast demanding installation of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly premises.

    Talking to media persons after garlanding the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Tank Bund to mark his 122nd birth anniversary, Motkupalli Narasimhulu said, “this is for the first time that a person from TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s family was sitting in the hunger fast for the cause of installing Dr Ambedkar’s statue.” He also expressed his solidarity for Kavitha's fast.

    Stating that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu has repeatedly demanded installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue, he said that leaders of all political parties have been mounting pressure on the government to take a favourable decision on the issue. At least now the government should respond and take steps for installing Ambedkar's statue soon in the assembly premises, he demanded. (INN)

    2012/4/13 8:34:19 Demanding installation of constitutional architect Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the premises of State Legislative Assembly, Telangana Jagruti president K Kavita on Friday launched a 48-hour hunger strike at Indira Park.

    Talking to media persons after starting the hunger strike, Kavita appealed to Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to take steps for establishing Ambedkar's statue beside the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. She said that the installation of Ambedkar's statue would uphold the respect towards law making institutions among the legislators.

    Kavitha said that the Dalits and Backward Classes communities have been enjoying the benefits in educational institutions and in employment due to reservation provided by Dr Ambedkar in the constitution. She demanded that the government announce decision on establishing the statue by Saturday on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar's birthday.

    Kavitha warned that she would intensify her agitation if government did not take a favourable decision on it.

    Meanwhile, YSR Congress party dalit unit members and Lok Satta party expressed solidarity with Kavita’s hunger fast. (INN)

    Talking to reporters after ending the fast, Kavitha said that the despite her 48-hours hunger fast the State Government did not respond to the demand of installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue. She said that the government should have made a specific announcement on Saturday on Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary.

    Kavitha said that the if the government fails to instal Dr Ambedkar's statue in the assembly premises by August 15, the Telagana Jagruthi would approach the Supreme Court seeking its intervention on the issue. She appealed to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar to install the statue to enter history by installing the statue in his regime.

    She thanked all the political parties for supporting her hunger fast. However, she also expressed regret over the criticism on her fast some leaders. (INN)

    As son as she wound up her dharna and left the place, some TRS activists entered the scene. They cleaned the place thoroughly and also cleaned the statue of Ambedkar with milk and water.

    Botsa to assume charge on Saturday

    2011/6/9 9:40:03 Minister for Labour Danam Nagender on Thursday stated that the newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana will assume charge on June 11.

    Talking to media persons after reviewing the arrangements with PCC office bearers at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Nagender said the PCC chief would be taken in a procession from Katta Mysamma Temple near Assembly to Gandhi Bhavan.

    Nagam takes out rally against Speaker, arrested

    2011/9/5 5:13:32 Suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy was arrested by the police when he tried to take out a rally from Gunpark to Ambedkar Statue at Tank Bund here on Monday. He was protesting against the inordinate delay in acceptance of resignations submitted for cause of Telangana state by the Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

    The police shifted Nagam and his supporting MLAs to Goshamahal police station. Earlier, Nagam accused the Speaker Nadendla Manohar of violating rights of MLAs by not accepting their resignations. Talking to media persons at the Assembly premises, he alleged that the Speaker instead of protecting the rights of elected representatives was violating their rights. He also alleged that Seemandhra rulers were not allowing his MLAs to stage protest at the Gandhi Statue in the Assembly premises.

    Stating that resigning from the membership was MLAs’ right, he said the Speaker must explain the reasons for not accepting the same even after three weeks. He asked as to why Speaker was showing discrimination in accepting resignation of Telangana leaders. He said that he would launch agitation to protect the rights of the MLAs in democracy across the Telangana if the Speaker did not announce his decision soon.

    Nagam also claimed that his fight against illegal mining yielding results with the arrest of Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy by the Central Bureau of Investigation. He demanded that the CBI initiate probe against all Cabinet ministers of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for their involvement in corruption.

    The former minister said that people of the region would teach a fitting lesson to elected representatives, who failed to press for acceptance of resignations by mounting pressure on Speaker Nadendla Manohar. He advised Telangana ministers to seek Governor E S L Narasimhan’s help in getting their resignations accepted.

    Another MLA Harishwar Reddy demanded that the CBI also include Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, the then Mines Minister, in mining scam probe for renewing the mining license permits violating rules and regulations. (INN)

    2007/11/5 4:16:03 The TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu alleged that chief minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy had insulted him. The incident took place during the BAC meeting at the Assembly in the presence of speaker Suresh Reddy.

    Babu says that YS had mockingly folded his hands and said that they would run the government as dictated by Babu. When Babu wanted to talk about the MSP issue and also about the break in assembly session for Diwali, an angry Y S Rajashekar Reddy is said to have shouted at Babu to simply ‘Shut Up!’

    Babu immediately staged a walkout and the TDP MLAs are now staging a silent protest near the statue of Mahathma Gandhi in the assembly premises.

    YSR Cong politicising Ambedkar's statue, alleges Congress

    2012/5/12 3:58:01 Hyderabad, May 12 (INN): Medical Education Minister Kondru Murali Mohan on Saturday demanded unconditional apology from YSR Congress party leaders for lodging a complaint with the Election Commission against T Subbarami Reddy, Congress candidate from Nellore Lok Sabha constituency, for promising to install the statues of Dr B R Ambedkar.

    Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, Murali Mohan demanded that the YSR Congress party leaders immediately withdraw their complaint. If they fail to change their attitude, he said that the Dalits in the state would not vote in favour of YSR Congress party.

    Stating that Subbarami Reddy has not violated the Model Code of Conduct by promising installation of Ambedkar's Statues, he said that Ambedkar was not a politician, but the architect of Indian constitution. Everyone is free to install Ambedkar statues anywhere in the country, he said.

    The minister said that YSR Congress party leaders politicizing the Ambedkar statue’s issue to get mileage in the ensuing by-elections.

    Rajkumari held for protest before Assembly

    2012/4/23 9:38:09 Hyderabad, April 23 (INN): The City Police on Monday took Telugu Desam Party MLC N Rajakumari into custody for causing obstruction to the traffic before the State Legislative Assembly.

    Rajkumari was prevented by the police when she tried to stage dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Legislative Assembly premises in protest against denial of permission to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to hold protest in Vizianagaram. Assembly Secretary S Raja Sadaram also denied her permission to stage protest in the assembly premises.

    In protest against denial of permission, Rajkumari squatted on the main road before the Legislative Assembly raising slogans against the State Government. She told reporters that denying permission to Chandrababu Naidu to hold protest in Vizianagaram district was against the democracy.

    The TDP MLC demanded that Transport Minister Botsa Satyanaryana and Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana resign from the State Cabinet for their alleged involvement in the liquor syndicate. She said if the duo fails to resign, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy should drop them from the cabinet. Else, Governor ESL Narasimhan should intervene and take action against them, she demanded.

    Rajkumari continued her dharna for about three hours which consequently led to her arrest by the City Police. She was later shifted to the Saifabad Police Station.

    Tallest Statue in the state

    The tallest statue in the state so far is the 54 feet statue of Gautam Budhha on the Rock of Gibralator. The distinction will now go to the statue of Annamayya.

    The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is installing the statue at the Thallapaka crossroads in Kadapa. The statue will be about 108 feet in height. The work will commence shortly and it will take about a year for the statue to come up.

    Sailajanath accuses Jagan of forcing by-elections on people

    2012/4/15 5:31:43 Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath on Sunday accused YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of forcing the by-elections in the State to achieve his selfish goals.

    Talking to reporters at Congress Legislature Party Office, Sailajanath said that it was purely due to one individual's personal agenda that 17 assembly and one Parliament constituencies in the States would be facing by-elections. He said that the Congress party would be facing the by-elections on the plank of Jagan Mohan Reddy's corruption and the welfare and developmental programmes of the State Government.

    Stating that Jagan could go to any extent to win the by-elections, Sailajanath alleged that the Jagan had a secret pact with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the last by-elections and that was the reason why he did not field his candidates in the Telangana region. She said that the Congress party would expose Jagan's secret understanding with the TRS before the people.

    Describing Kiran Kumar Reddy as an able Chief Minister, Sailajanath said that the State Government have been implementing several welfare and developmental programmes for the people. He said people would vote for the Congress party due to its performance and programmes.

    The minister also praised Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha for taking up hunger fast demanding the installation of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the assembly premises. However, he said that the Chief Minister has already announced on the floor of the House that Dr Ambedkar's statue would be installed in the assembly premises and a proper space was being identified for the same.     2011/11/22 16:23:47 The Congress MPs have urged their party MLAs in the State to raise the issue of separate Telangana during the ensuing session of the State Legislative Assembly.

    Talking to reporters Congress MP S Rajaiah said that the party MLAs should take up the issue on the floor of the House. A similar agitation would be taken up by the Congress MPs in both the house of Parliament. He said all the elected representatives from the region should continue the statehood agitation till Telangana is formed.

    Rajaiah appreciated Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati for passing the resolution in the UP assembly for division of her state into four parts. He said that Mayawati was following the principles of Dr B R Ambedkar in true spirit. Claiming that Dr Ambedkar was in favour of smaller states, he said overall development of the country was possible only with smaller states.

    Earlier, talking to media persons Nagarkurnool MP sought the cooperation of Telugu Desam Party MPs in raising the Telangana issue in the Parliament. He said all the elected representatives, across party lines, should unite to achieve Telangana and they should discuss the strategy to be adopted on the floor of the House on daily basis.

    The Congress MPs have also staged a dharna before the Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Parliament before the session began at 11 am on Tuesday. The MPs entered the House by raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans. (INN)

    2011/8/22 2:41:56 Twenty-six MLAs of Congress party owing allegiance to beleaguered YSR Congress Party president and Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday submitted their resignations to MLAs posts and also from party primary membership.

    Addressing media persons at Assembly premises former Congress minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said that 26 Congress MLAs have submitted their resignations to Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram as Speaker Nadendla Manohar was not available in his office. He said that the Congress leaders have submitted resignations protesting the inclusion of former chief minister YSR’s name in the CBI's FIR in the case related to Jagan Mohan Reddy's alleged disproportionate wealth case.

    Apart from Congress 26 MLAs, one PRP MLA Shobha Nagireddy, two TDP MLAs Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Y Bala Nagireddy have also submitted their resignations. He said that the MLAs have submitted resignations as they were unable to digest humiliation meted out to YSR, who brought back Congress party to the power in the State for two consecutive terms. He asked those Congress elected members, who are loyal to YSR, to submit resignations.

    The MLAs alleged the Congress party hatched conspiracy to tarnish the image of YSR and implicate Jagan in fake cases in the garb of judiciary.

    Earlier the Congress MLAs had a discussion at YSR Congress party office and took unanimous decision on submitting resignations. Later they proceeded in a Bus to Punjagutta and garlanded YSR's statue. Later, they proceeded to Tank bund, where they paid rich tributes to BR Ambedkar. After paying tributes, they came to the Assembly to submit resignations.

    The MLAs - Konda Surekha, K Satyavathi and Jayasudha - did not submit resignations on Monday as their resignation letters, which they have submitted for the cause of Telangana, are still pending with the Speaker. (INN)
