    TDP and TRS join hands!

2008/6/4 11:25:27 Now don't get mislead by the heading. The TDP and TRS are not entering into an electoral alliance. The two parties have given a bandh call in protest against the hike in price of petro, diesel and cooking gas.

The TDP gave a bandh call for June 6. The TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao also gave a bandh call for the same day, after he announced that he was taking back his resignation.

While the TRS will observe a bandh in Telangana, the TDP will observe a bandh all over the state. It now remains to be seen if the TRS and TDP will enforce the bandh together in the Telangana areas.

The BJP to has given a bandh call on June 6. But the BJP has made it clear that their bandh would be enforced separately and they will not have any sort of coordination with the TDP.

    Bandh: No impact in city

2011/10/17 8:01:19 The Telangana Bandh call given by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee on Monday evoked mixed response. While the bandh impact was not visible in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, normal life was disrupted in other districts in the region.

The RTC buses plied normally in the twin cities. The auto-rickshaws too plied in the twin cities. However, in other districts very few services were operated under tight security. As many as 596 buses remained parked at six depots of Adilabad, 580 buses in Medak, 930 buses in Warangal, 791 buses in Mahaboobnagar, 629 buses in Khammam, 902 buses in Karimangar and 705 buses in Nalgonda did not ply due to Telangana bandh.

Several buses coming from Seemandhra region were stopped at NH-9. While nearly 50 protestors were arrested at Narketpalli in Nalgonda district for staging a road blockade on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway, police stopped about 100 buses coming from Vijaywada towards Hyderabad at the check post as a precautionary measure. Buses coming from Kanchikacharla in Krishna district were stopped at Keesra toll gate.

A majority of educational institutions remained open in Hyderabad and the commercial establishments too did not downed their shutter during the bandh. However, in other districts all educational institutions, shops and establishments, petrol bunks and cinema halls remained closed. Major impact of bandh was seen in Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar districts. One petrol bunk was also attacked in Warangal.

The Telangana Joint Action Committee has called for the daylong shutdown to protest against alleged police excesses during the rail blockade. It alleged that false cases were booked against thousands of protestors, including MPs and MLAs, and that the government misused power to suppress the agitation.

The JAC, which had called for a three-day rail blockade, decided to cut it short to two days and instead called for a Telangana Bandh on Monday.

Meanwhile, the general strike by government employees across Telangana entered 35th day on Monday. The strike by workers in state-owned Singareni Collieries is also continuing. (INN)

However, the TRS gave exemption to the Road Transport Corporation and students, who are attending their annual examination, from the bandh.

    Hyderabad Bandh passes off peacefully

    2011/9/30 5:32:49

Barring a few incidents, the Hyderabad and Secunderabad bandh went off peacefully on Friday. A majority of shops, commercial establishments, cinema theatres, petrol bunks and the educational institutions remained shut.

The bandh call was given by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee as part of Sakala Janula Samme, the people's general strike which entered 18th day on Friday, demanding statehood for Telangana region. The buses of the State-owned Road Transport Corporation remained off the roads for the 12th consecutive day. The medical strike too entered 9th day on Friday.

However, a major part of the Old City of Hyderabad remained open. Attempts by the BJP workers to enforce bandh in some Old City areas were foiled by the local shop keepers leading to some tension. However, with the police intervention situation was immediately brought into control.

Since the people have been experiencing difficulties in getting transport for the last 12 days due to RTC strike, they did not find a major change on Friday. Some auto-rickshaws which plied on city roads charged exorbitantly from needy passengers. Using private drivers, the RTC authorities operated nearly 300 buses on some major routes.

Although a majority of private educational institutions declared holiday on Friday, others conducted the last paper of quarterly examination and declared Dussera holidays till October 10.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements across the twin cities. Police pickets were deployed at all sensitive locations and the mobile teams intensified patrolling in politically sensitive areas.

The South Central Railway suspended all MMTS services in the twin cities throughout the day. Initially, the services were cancelled till 12 noon. After a review, the services were kept suspended for the day.

The attendance in the State Secretariat remained thin. With the Telangana employees on strike, only a few employees of Seemandhra regions attended duties. They were brought in RTC buses escorted by the policemen and Rapid Action Force personnel. Amidst heavy security, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy too went to his office at C-Block in the Secretariat. However, attendance in the private commercial establishments remained unaffected. KCR asks private sector to join general strike

2011/9/4 10:15:05 Describing the movement for Telangana state as a 'now or never battle', Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao called upon the managements and staff of private educational institutions to support the general strike starting from September 13.

Addressing a meeting of Telangana Recognised School Managements Association at Telangana Bhavan here on Sunday, Chandrasekhar Rao said the participation of private institutions would further strengthen the Telangana movement. He said the employees' associations of all public institutions have already announced their participation in the general strike and the private institutions must emulate them. KCR said there were about 20,000 private educational institutions in the Telangana region and the general strike would gain intensity if they too join the movement.

KCR alleged that the people from Andhra region were dominating the private education sector in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad. Due to lack of funding and discrimination, the local institutions are being deprived the opportunity to grow. He said the injustices to private education sector could be undone only if the managements and staff join the movement and achieve Telangana.

The TRS President described the Telangana movement as 'now or never' battle. "If people from the region fail to make the Centre grant statehood for Telangana now, then no such movement will arise in future," he said. KCR was critical of disunity among the leaders of different political parties over Telangana. "Separate Telangana can be achieved only and only if all of us are united," he said. (INN)

Exempt education from Strikes: Shankar Rao

2011/10/10 6:36:54 Handlooms and Textiles Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Monday appealed to the Telangana groups to exempt the educational institutions from the Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike for Telangana.

Talking to media persons, Dr Shankar Rao said that lakhs of students have been put to hardship due to the continuous closure of schools, colleges and other institutions. In several institutions, the syllabus could not be completed due to the loss of working days. Therefore, all education institutions be exempted from the strike, he appealed to Telangana Joint Action Committee and other groups.

Regarding three-day Rail Roko starting from October 12, the Minister said lakhs of passengers would suffer due to the three-day long agitation. He said a day long protest could be tolerated by the general public, but protests for long duration would spoil the image of Telangana agitation among the people.

Dr Shankar Rao said that the Centre was trying to find an early solution to Telangana issue and therefore, all pro-Telangana groups must soften their agitation. (INN)

    Pvt colleges call off bandh

2012/2/6 14:37:32 The Consortium of Engineering and Private College Managements' Association on Monday called off the bandh call following the State Government's assurance that all arrears would be cleared by March 31.

It may be mentioned that nearly 2,000 private engineering, MBA, MCA and B Ed Colleges have threatened to shut down from February 7 following non-clearance of dues under the fee reimbursement scheme. However, Social Welfare Minister Pitani Satyanarayana on Monday announced that the government would release Rs 1,259 crore by February 15 to the college managements and the remaining dues would be cleared by March 31.

The minister claimed that nearly 70 per cent of college managements have been supporting the government, but the rest 30 per cent were creating hurdles due to political reasons. Delay in submission of students' applications was another reason for the delay in release of payment. However, he said that the government would clear the entire dues by March 31. (INN)

14 F: Students warn of another ‘Million March’, postpone bandh to August 10

2011/8/7 9:07:13 The Telangana Students Joint Action Committee on Sunday warned the state government that the state may witness another `Million March’ if it goes ahead with conduction recruitment examinations for Sub-Inspector’s posts in the police department without getting the controversial Clause 14 F deleted from the Presidential Orders of 1975.

The students JAC leaders told media persons that the state government can only go ahead with holding the recruitment examinations for the Sub-Inspectors only after the Centre deletes the controversial Clause.

The students’ leaders demanded that the government announce its decision on the issue before August 12, a day prior to the schedule announced for the conduct of examinations.

The students will call for a 48-hour long bandh on August 13 and 14 in Telangana, paralyzing all services, if the Centre fails to take favourable decision on deletion of the said clause, the students’ JAC members said.
