Media baron Ramoji Rao had to wear black face again on a land deal case. All his 3 petitions meant to prolong the land lease deal case were scrapped by 9th session court judge at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Ramoji Rao, who often slings mud against others through his powerful media network, has been illegally occupying a piece of prime land for years after the expiry of the lease deal. He took 2.78 acres of prime land on 33 years long lease from Manthena Aditya Varma in the year 1974 to establish his Eenadu news paper unit. This lease agreement was completed in year 2007, but he refuses to vacate and hand over the land to its owner Varma until now.
Ramoji Rao not only refusing to vacate the land, but he has also surrendered a piece of land from it to government for roads widening and obtained the same size of land in another area on his name as an exchange. He not even bothered to consult or take permission from the owner of the land before making this deal. This land is located in Seethammadhara area the heart of the Visakhapatnam city, from where his Eenadu Vizag edition is running now.
When, Manthena Aditya Varma fails to get possession of his site, he has complained against Ramoji Rao in 3town police station on 6.12.2007. But, even the police were afraid to take any action against the powerful and highly influenced Ramoji Rao. Hence, Varma sought the help of High Court. It has ordered the police to file an FIR against Ramoji Rao and start investigation of the case. Then only, the police have filed an FIR against Ramoji Rao (on 8.5.2010) with which Ramoji Rao is forced to step into court to counter the case. But, he is clever enough to use the loop holes in our law. He keep filing separate petitions on various reasons to prolong the case. In his petitions, he has asked the court to postpone the case as the lease documents were under mortgage with Union bank of India, Hyderabad. But, since the land owner Varma posses the copy of the lease deal, the court has scrapped Ramoji Raos petitions and adjourned the case to August 8th.
2008/3/11 5:51:26 Eenadu chief editor and Margadarsi chairman Ramoji Rao faced some very embarrassing situation today. Ramoji Rao had field a petition in the high court in connection with some income tax notices served on him. In his petition Ramoji Rao made some personal allegations against chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy. The court took objection to this and asked Ramoji Rao to drop the personal allegations and submit the petition afresh. But even after a week, Ramoji did not comply.
The High Court today took a strong note of this and raped Ramoji on the knuckles. The court asked Ramoji to comply with its directive immediately. The court also slapped a fine of 10,000 rupees on Ramoji Rao.
2008/2/11 9:00:22 The Eenadu chief Ramoji Rao and his son Ch. Kiron are now on bail. They have been on bail for almost three months now. The court issued an arrest warrant on Ramoji Rao and Kiron flowing a case filed by the owner of the premises on which Eenadu now stands.
The petitioner claimed that Ramoji Rao and Kiron had cheated him by forging some documents. He said that Ramoi Rao surrendered a part of the land to the government for road widening. The government gave alternate land and Ramoji Rao and Kiron got the land registered in their names.
Ramoji Rao has since refuted this. He claimed that he and his son are innocent. Ramoji Rao moved a bail petition in the High Court seeking extension of bail. The High Court directed Ramoji Rao to first surrender before the court in Visakhapatnam within the next ten day. The High Court will take up his bail petition after that.
2012/3/29 1:20:25 The Kammam district Court has rejected the appeal made by media baron Ramoji Rao today. District TRS In-Charge Somayya has filed a petition against him for publishing false news against him in Eenadu news paper. Ramoji Rao, who was summoned by the court has appealed to spare him from personally attending the case as he is busy with his day to day affairs. However, the court has turned down his appeal and asked him to attend personally.
2012/1/28 6:19:32 Media baron CH Ramoji Rao, who tried to bluff the Supreme Court, got a stern warning for it.
He obtained a prime location (Seetammadhara area) in Visakhapatnam on long lease from Kumar Varma and started his 'Eenadu' news paper three decades ago. However, he not only handed over a part of the land for road widening and obtained the same size of land in some other place on his own name, but also not bothered to inform the owner of the site about the deal. When, the lease period was over some ten years ago, then only the owner come to know about his deals. Then onwards, the owner of the site tried getting back his site but in vain.
He even tried to bring him to book, but Ramoji Rao being the media baron and having high influence in the Government, no one dares to against him, even police.
After a decade-long battle in the courts, the owner of the site Kumar Varma has proved his ownership of the site and also proved that he has been cheated by Ramoji Rao in all aspects. Even then also Ramoji Rao has been wisely prolonging the case filing new petitions in different courts.
Even today, he is not ready to vacate the land nor is willing to accept the court orders. A cheating case has been filed against him in 3 Town Police station in Visakhapatnam upon the court orders. Yet, Ramoji Rao preferred to take the legal battle to higher level- Supreme Court.
Although he acquired 11,000 sq.ft. on lease from Kumar Varma, Ramoji Rao has tried to bluff the Supreme Court stating that he has taken only 9200 sq.ft only on lease and rest of the land which measures 1800 sq.ft belongs to him. He also appealed the court to allow him to make some changes to his petition filed in High Court against Kumar Varma, and to order the owner of the site to extend the lease period.
The Supreme Court which was satisfied with the documental evidences submitted by land owner Kumar Varma, has not only rejected Ramoji Rao's petition and also warned him that he has to face criminal charges for intentionally misguiding the courts.
Then also Ramoji Rao once again tried to bluff the Supreme Court stating that he has been with the opinion that the 1800 sq.ft piece of land his own and he is not aware of the fact that it belongs to Kumar Varma.
Supreme Court comprising Justice Lodha and Gokle have given a stern warning to Ramoji Rao and dismissed his petition.
2011/4/19 10:13:37 Media baron Ramoji Rao who is running a dozen TV Channels in different languages has been flayed by Karnataka high court for telecasting a Kannada TV serial titled MuktaMukta without knowing about its content.
Responding to a petition filed against him, the high court has summoned him to attend the trial in April second week. But, as usually he skips the trial stating that, he is busy with his business affairs. But, the high court says that he cant ask for excuses any more showing his busy schedules and asked him to attend the court whenever he is summoned. The court asked him that, if he doesnt have idea about the content of the serial and what is going on in his channels, then why did he started a TV Channel? Ramoji Rao has apologize the high court.
2007/12/11 7:08:15 This could be the ultimate embarrassment faced by media baron Ramoji Rao in all his life. A case under section 420 has been booked against him. The case pertains to the 2.7 acres land leased out to Ramoji Rao by one M A Easwarkumar Varma.
Varma now alleges that Ramoji Rao and his son Ch Kiron, MD of Eenadu have cheated him by forging some documents. The government acquired about 570 yards of land from the site for road widening. The government gave an alternative site measuring about 600 yards.
Varma says that Ramoji Rao and his son have got the land registered in their names when it should rightfully belong to him. He approached the court and the court has now directed the police to file a case and serve notices to Ramoji Rao and Kiron under section 420 and other sections.
The media baron Ramoji Rao who preaches values and ethics through his paper Eenadu is not known to practice them.
When the media gathered outside the court premises to cover the event of Ramoji Rao and his son Kiran attending the court, the goons of Ramoji Rao prevented the scribes from covering this.
The goons attacked the TV journalists and beat up a couple of reporters. The camera of a TV journalist was damaged.
The journalists have lodged a complaint against Ramoji Rao in the police station.
It has been reliably learnt that the state government is very serious about the sales tax evasion by ETV and Ushakiron movies. The group led by Ramoji Rao had contested the charges and even went on an appeal. The appeal was dismissed both by the Sales Tax Appellate Tribunal and the High Court.
Ramoji Rao later filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court and obtained a temporary stay. The state government now is trying to get the stay vacated and recover the money. The firms owned by Ramoji Rao have reportedly evaded paying sales tax which has run up to nearly Rs. 15 crores.
Media baron and chief of Eenadu and Margadarsi group Ramoji Rao along with his son Kiran surrendered in court on Visakhapatnam today.
The media baron has been accused of cheating the owner of the land in Seethammadhara where the Eenadu office is located.
The government acquired soma part of the land for road widening and gave alternate land. But Ramoji Rao and Kiran who happen to be just the lease holders got the compensation land registered in their names when it should have been rightfully given to the owner of the property.
2008/3/29 2:06:20 Media baron and chairman of Margadarsi financiers, Cherukuri Ramoji Rao is now in real trouble. The Supreme Court on Friday set aside his plea seeking a stay on the investigations by the state police into the alleged irregularities by the state government and investigating agencies.
The Supreme Court has now made it clear that the state government can now initiate action against Ramoji Rao for any irregularities committed by his group. If found guilty, Ramoji Rao will have to pay a fine of 7,000 crore and also face the prospect of a two year jail term.
Jagans Saakshi naturally went to town with this development. It carried two big stories very prominently on page one today. Ramoji Rao and his son Ch Kiron are now on bail for four months in connection with a criminal case related to land in Visakhapatnam.
Court rejects Gali, Srilakshmi's plea to transfer bail petitions
2012/4/28 7:11:05 Hyderabad, April 28 (INN): The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Saturday dismissed the petition of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy and suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi to transfer their bail petitions to the Second Additional Special Court as the predecessor judge B Nagamaruthi Sarma had already heard the bail plea in part.
It may be mentioned that Justice Nagamaruthi Sarma has been transferred to another CBI court and he was replaced by Justice A Pullaiah.
While dismissing their appeals, the court has adjourned the hearing on bail petitions of Gali Janardhan Reddy to May 5 and Srilakshmi to May 2.
Noted criminal advocate Ram Jethmalani appeared in the court to argue for Gali Janardhan Reddy's bail petition. However, the CBI sought more time to file counter petition on Gali's bail petition as additional solicitor did not turn up.
Directing the CBI to file counter petition, the court adjourned Gali's bail petition to May 5.
2011/8/24 3:40:30 The two judge bench of Supreme Court has rejected YS.Jagan Mohan Reddys petitions today, in which he has requested the court to stop the CBI investigations of his properties. Noted lawyers Ram Jetmalani and Mukul Rohtagi have made arguments on Jagans behalf for more than two hours in the court. But, the bench has disagreed with them and refused to intervene in the ongoing CBI investigation. On the other side today, CBI has served notices to Jagans auditors and to some others who invested in his companies. Ultimately, all this may lead to Jagans arrest very soon.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Saturday scrapped the new fee structure for the engineering colleges in the State proposed by the Fee Regulatory Committee.
Delivering its verdict on a batch of petitions filed by the managements of private engineering colleges, the High Court found fault with the recommendations made by the Fee Regulatory Committee which fixed Rs 30,200 for category ‘A’ seats and Rs 91,700 for category ‘B’ seat per annum as tuition fee. The court said that the government should follow uniform fee structure for both convenor and management quota seats.
“There should be no discrimination in fee structure for convenor and management quota seats for professional courses,” the bench remarked and rejected the recommendations of the Fee Regulatory Committee - 2010.
The court asked the government to fix fees for colleges based on the expenditure incurred by the colleges and grade given by NAAC. It asked the government to announce the new fee structure by next March.
Several private institutions have approached the High Court against the government's proposal for fixation of Rs 30,200 as fee for the students to be admitted under the convenor quota. They said that it would be difficult for the private colleges to run the institutions with such a meagre fee. The private college managements have hailed the High Court judgement.
Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to challenge the High Court verdict in the Supreme Court. (INN)

Then, Suryapet police have registered a case against Jr.NTR and that case comes before Lok Adalath Court on Friday. Ramoji Rao and Kiron are on bail for the past three months in connection with a case. The High court set the pre-condition for extending the bail.
Ramoji Rao and his son are alleged to have taken land in lieu of land surrendered for road widening in Visakhapatnam. The petitioner said that he had been cheated, as Ramoji Rao is not the owner but only a tenant. Hence he had no right to take compensation from government and then get it registered in his name.
High drama preceded the surrendered. Ramoji Rao and Kiron were covered with the help of tow large black umbrellas. Some of the staff from his group companies formed into a shield and obstructed TV cameramen and photographers from taking pictures and video. The even used plastic chairs to block the waiting lens men from taking pictures. The TV crew had a difficult time catching them on their cameras.

The court also refused to give further custody of the accused to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The special court dismissed the petitions of both Janardhana and Srinivasa Reddy for bail as the prosecution had opposed them on the ground that the accused, if released, might tamper with the evidence.
Gali's counsel opposed the CBI's petition seeking their custody for nine days citing rulings of the Supreme Court in various cases. He pointed out that the CBI custody of the accused should be given only in the first 15 days of the arrest. The CBI had earlier questioned the accused for six days.
Janardhana Reddy and Srinivasa Reddy were arrested by the CBI in Bellary on September 5 in connection with the illegal mining in Anantapur district bordering Karnakata. 2007/8/8 10:18:59 The owner of Eenadu and Margadarsi and RFC chief Ramoji Rao is facing the biggest challenge in his life today. The land tribunal delivered its verdict today and it has gone against Ramoji Rao.
The land tribunal has found Ramoji Rao and his group companies along with his family members, about 1800 acres of surplus lands. This is against the land reforms act. No individual or a family can hold more than 500 acres of land. The tribunal has directed Ramoji Rao to surrender the land.
Ramoji Rao has been given 15 days time to respond to the notice. According to some lawyers, Ramoji Rao now has no option but to comply with the order.
But people who have watched him for some years say that Ramoji will not give up without a fight. He may drag the issue in courts for years on end if possible. The details of the verdict will be known tomorrow.
