Five labour from AP killed in Mumbai

Five labourers were killed and six others were injured in a building mishap here on Thursday. All the deceased and injured hailed from Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

The incident happened at around 3.30 pm on Thursday when the labourers fell down from the 11th floor after a bamboo scaffolding of a building Siddhivinayak Towers in the Mumbai suburb of Bhayandar, collapsed.

The deceased have been identified as Raju, M Govind, M Naresh, Machappa and Chinappa. They were natives of Kernapally and Chetnapally of Mahabubnagar district. Originally they are farmers, but have migrated to Mumbai as labourers about 15-days ago. (INN)

    Indian 'Labour Party'!

    The name Labour Party is well known all over the world. The Labour party has been existence in Britain for the past 50 years. Even Australia has a Labour Party. Ireland, Belgium and other countries too have a party named Labour Party.

    Now the party comes to India or rather the name comes to India. The name of the proposed political party of Chiranjeevi is 'Labour Party'. So will Chiranjeevi invite the Labour Party leader former prime minister of Britain, the charismatic Tony Blair to campaign for his party in the state?

    Thunderbolts kill 11 across AP

    2011/10/10 7:37:37 At least 11 people, mostly farmers, were killed in separate incidents when they were struck by thunderbolts on Monday.

    According to reports reaching here, five people were killed at Rajapuram in Khammam district. Two more persons were killed in Buttaingudem of Eturnagarama mandal of Warangal. In another incident, four persons were reportedly killed in Vizianagarm district due to thunderbolts strike. However, these statistics were yet to be confirmed by the officials.

    Reports suggest that these farmers were killed while they working in the fields. But due to sudden heavy downpour followed by thunderbolt on Monday, they could not immediately reach safe shelters. (INN)

    Four killed in different train accidents

    2011/9/22 9:13:40 Four people including two women were killed in different train accidents in the city on Thursday.

    A man of about 26 years of age and a 35-year-old woman were killed after being hit by a train between Dabeerpura and Malakpet railway stations. The police was yet to ascertain whether both were related.

    Another unidentified woman of about 60 years was killed in a train accident between Falaknuma and Budvwel stations. In another case, the body of a 30-year-old man was found on the railway tracks near Falaknuma railway station. He died after being hit by a train.

    The identity of all the four deceased is yet to be ascertained. Their bodies have been preserved at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and identification. (INN)

    Bipasha on being accused of child labour

    Bollywood damsel Bipasha Basu landed herself in a big trouble when she posted a picture of two children tying her shoelaces and tweeted, "I need to learn to tie shoe laces ASAP! Embarrassed that I can't! No patience grrrrr! Promise I am not spoilt! Will learn soon."

    This news spread like a fire and people started accusing the actor of child labour. "Bipasha should be arrested for this act. Only then these film studios will not do any child labour," posted a follower. Another tweet read, "Disgraceful Bips - cannot believe you are dumb enough to add this photo on Twitter!"

    Bips later deleted the picture and justified the act by saying, "Well the ppl helping me in the pix r my friend n sister, Who I help often with the same! So am sorry if it hurt anyones sentiments! (sic)"

    But her fans didn't buy this explanation. In the deleted tweet she confessed she doesn't know how to tie laces and in her explanation she stated she does the same (tie laces) for the children in the pic.

    Bipasha was in the capital for an event. When quizzed about the twitter controversy, she stated, "I think you should read my post on twitter. It's not child labour, that's all I can say."

    compensation for road accident victim

    2011/9/21 3:47:40 Labour Welfare Minister Danam Nagender has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to next to kin of auto-rickshaw driver Mallesh, who was killed when a RTC bus driver lost control and hit his auto at Krishna Nagar in Yousufguda on Wednesday morning.

    The minister went to Mallesh's house and consoled the family members for the unfortunate accident. He announced Rs 5 lakh compensation and a government job to one of family members. Apart from Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia, he also announced Rs 5 lakh to victim family members on behalf of the Greater Hyderabad Congress. He said that action would be taken against the driver responsible for the accident.

    It may be recalled that an autorickshaw driver Mallesh killed when a Kondapur bound bus driver coming from Secunderabad lost control on his vehicle due to break failure and hit the auto at Yousufguda in the morning. (INN)

    TDP leader Kuppatralla killed in faction war

    2008/5/17 6:06:41 The ugly faction war raised its ugly head once again in Kurnool district. The TDP leader Kuppatralla Venkatappanaidu was killed in a planned attack on his Sumo by his rivals this morning at Bodanuru near Kurnool.

    His sumo was first hit by a lorry and later some armed persons are reported to have hurled bombs on his vehicle. Venkatappanaidu and eight others were killed in the attack

    Venkatappanaidu was a well known faction leader in the Kurnool region. He has so far survived more than a dozen attacks on him. The attack is said to be the handwork of V Padma and her followers.

    The rivalry between Padma and Kuppatralla dates back to over three decades. Kuppatralla is said to have killed Padma's brother and driven Padma away from the village. Padma returned to the village recently with the help of congress party leaders like Kotla Surya Pakash Reddy.

    5,300 jobless after Thai floods hit 20,000 firms

    2011/11/6 1:18:25 Bangkok, Nov 6 (IANS) Over 5,300 people have lost their jobs after operations in 20,000 companies in Thailand were affected by floods, officials said.

    Athit Ismo, director-general of the labour ministry's department of labour protection and welfare, said the companies employ over 790,000 people in 16 provinces, Xinhua reported citing the Bangkok Post newspaper.

    Flooded firms have laid off more than 5,300 employees, including workers in Bangkok and central province of Nonthaburi, said Athit.

    Seven industrial estates were under water, costing economic damage of at least $4.9 billion.

    Ten Japanese companies, whose production facilities in Thailand have been flooded, are planning to send around 2,000 Thai workers to Japan to work there temporarily, said secretary for labour Somkiat Chayasriwong.

    The floods caused by heavy monsoon rains and overflow from several dams in the upper regions of the country have claimed more than 400 lives and affected around 10 million people since July.

    Two killed in road accidents

    2011/10/19 9:16:02 A 22-year-old youth died on the spot after he was run over by a RTC bus on the NH-7 bus stop here on Wednesday.

    The deceased was later identified as Ashok, a resident of Kullapadka village. He was employed as a security guard with the NIRD. According to Shamshabad police, the accident happened when Ashok fell on the road after being hit by a speeding bike near the NH-7 and then run over by the RTC bus. The bike rider also sustained serious injuries in the accident.

    In a separate case of hit and run, a 45-year-old man was killed when the bike he was riding was hit by unknown vehicle near Shivarampally on Wednesday.

    According to Rajendranagar police, the deceased Syed Shahnawaz, a lineman of electricity department and resident of Hasan Nagar, was killed while he was returning home from Shivarampally. A case has been registered and investigations are on. (INN)

    Six killed as bus rams into auto

    2011/6/3 9:44:19 Six persons, including three women and one child, were killed on the spot and five others sustained injuries when a State Road Transport Corporation bus collided with an auto-rickshaw near Chittiboinapalli in Chittoor district on Friday.

    According to Gurramkonda police, the mishap took place when the RTC bus, heading towards Gurramkonda from Rayachoti rammed into the auto-rickshaw heading towards Cheruvulapalli from Gurramkonda mandal.

    All the six persons who were on board the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot. The mishap left five others with grievous injuries.

    The victims have been identified as N Reddymma (29), A Santhareddy (34) A Venkatamma (40), C Jyothi (15) and M Ramaiah (60). The identity of one victim was yet to be ascertained.

    All the victims have been shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for post-mortem. Among the injured, the condition of a few is stated to be critical.

    Tiger kills the woman in UP

    2011/11/5 6:00:13 A tiger killed a woman in Katarniaghat forest reserve in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, an official said.

    Nanki, 42, a native of Khairipurwa village, was killed in the Nishangarha forest range.

    "The tiger attacked the woman while she was cutting grass along with other villagers in the forest area," Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R.K. Singh told reporters in Bahraich, some 140 km from Lucknow.

    "According to eyewitnesses, the tiger was full-grown. However, we are yet to ascertain it as the pug marks found near the victim's body are not very clear," he added.

    According to wildlife officials, there are around 37 tigers in the Nishangarh forest range.

    In October, a leopard from the Katarniaghat forest reserve killed a minor girl while she was sleeping outside her house in Sampatpurwa village.

    2011/10/17 8:43:20 In a suspected case of hit and run, a one-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured near Shamshabad bus depot here on Monday.

    The woman, who has been shifted to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment, has been identified as Devi, a resident of Mahaboobnagar. Police suspect that they might have been hit and run an unknown vehicle.

    One killed, three injured in bus-auto collision

    2011/10/24 8:09:34 One person was killed three others injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a CRFP bus here on Monday.

    The accident happened near Midhani Township when the auto-rickshaw carrying three passengers was hit by a CRPF bus coming from the opposite direction. Consequently, one person died on the spot and was later identified as Sai Kiran (30). The injured were rushed to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

    Kanchanbabh police registered a case and are investigating. (INN)

    Govt to check migration of farm labours

    2011/10/31 8:13:55 Rural Development Minister Dokka Manikyavara Prasad on Monday stated that the government would take all steps to check migration of farm labour to cities in search of employment.

    Talking to media persons after participating in District Review Meeting at Anantapur Collectors Office, Manikyavara Prasad said the government would implement Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in effective manner to prevent migration of agriculture labour, who were affected due to drought and provide man days mandatorily to them. The government would take all steps to help farm labour in drought hit areas and reschedule their loans, he said.

    Admitting that funds allotted for welfare schemes were being misused, he said that the government would take stringent steps and punish the guilty officials after ordering a probe into the entire issue. “All steps will be taken to prevent misappropriation of funds,” he stated.

    Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath, MLAs Payyavula Kesav, Gurnath Reddy, Madhusudhan Gupta and district officials were present in the meeting. (INN)
