Govt won't spare statue desecrators: Sabitha

Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Saturday warned that the government would act sternly against those who were desecrating the statues of national leaders in the state and causing law and order problem.

Talking to media persons here, after having the darshan of Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru at Tiruchanur, the Home Minister said that the government would not spare anybody, however high and mighty they were and take stern action against the guilty. She said that the police arrested three persons in this connection and that others would be traced soon.

Mrs Indira Reddy said the situation in Amalapuram had returned to normal and the additional police, deployed to maintain law and order, would be withdrawn in a phased manner.

She assured people that the government was taking all necessary steps to withdraw cases booked against students and activists who participated in the separate Telangana agitation. Cases would be lifted based on their nature and severity, she added.

Earlier, police arrested dalit activists at Leela Mahal Centre in the town, who obstructed her convoy demanding action against culprits responsible for desecration of Dr B R Ambedkar’s statues in Amalapuram. (INN)

    Tallest Statue in the state

    The tallest statue in the state so far is the 54 feet statue of Gautam Budhha on the Rock of Gibralator. The distinction will now go to the statue of Annamayya.

    The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is installing the statue at the Thallapaka crossroads in Kadapa. The statue will be about 108 feet in height. The work will commence shortly and it will take about a year for the statue to come up.

    Komaram Bheem – Govt. silences TRS

    The sate government that is not known to act firmly or swiftly has made an exception this time. The government has agreed to install the statue of the Adivasi warrior from Telangana Komaram Bheem.

    The TRS has been demanding that the statue of Komaram Bheem be installed on the Tank Bund immediately. KTR and others started highlighting the issue with a view to gain political mileage.

    With the government agreeing to the proposal and setting into motion the process of identifying suitable place on Tank Bund for the statue, the TRS has been silenced on this issue.

    Woman kills self due to dowry harassment

    2011/11/29 15:38:11 A 23-year-old woman, Sabitha, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze allegedly due to harassment by her husband for more dowry.

    Sabitha took the extreme step on Tuesday morning at her residence in Permanguda. She poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. She died on the spot. According to Ibrahimpatnam police, Sabitha was married to Krishna, a JCB operator, about five years ago. The couple also had one child. However, Sabitha was allegedly being harassed by her Krishna for more dowry and the same reason is believed to have led her to commit suicide.

    Ibrahimpatnam police are investigation the case. (INN)

    BJP activists stop installation of NTR statue at VSKP

    2008/5/28 6:33:06 The BJP Yuva Morcha activists stopped the unveiling of a statue of the late TDP founder NT Rama Rao in Visakhapatnam. The local TDP workers arranged a program on the occasion of NT Rama Rao’s birth anniversary and invited union minister and NT Rama Rao’s eldest daughter Purandrareshwari to unveil the statue.

    But the BJP Yuva Sena objected to this. Their contention was that the statue was that of NT Rama Rao as Lord Krishna. The BJP leaders took objection to NTR being projected as God.

    Laughing lord Rajababu’s statue to be unveiled

    T activists damage YSR's statues

    2011/9/23 7:30:57 Tension prevailed in Buddaraopeta of Warangal district on Friday when some Telangana activists desecrated the statue of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

    According to police, some Telangana activists damaged YSR's statue in Buddaraopeta of Khanapur mandal and raised slogans calling him as an enemy of Telangana. It may be mentioned that the TDP MLAs became the target of T-activists across Warangal district on Friday. However, it was for the first time that the activists damaged YSR's statue that was installed after his death about two years ago.

    A similar incident was reported from Nalgonda on Friday. At Devarkonda crossroads, some Telangana activists set ablaze a bronze statue of Rajasekhara Reddy. Some activists poured petrol and set the statue on fire.

    Police have registered cases and are investigating. (INN)

    Guilty in illegal money transfer will not be spared: Sabitha

    2011/6/21 10:26:19 Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Tuesday stated that the state government would not spare anybody found to be involved in the illegal transfer of money from Yajur Mandir in Satya Sai Ashram, Puttaparthy to Karnataka.

    Talking to media persons after laying foundation stones of a series development projects in Shamshabad mandal in Ranga Reddy district, the Home Minister stated that the government would arrest anyone found guilty. “We will take stringent action against all those who are behind the transfer of money from Puttaparthi Ashram to Karnataka,” Ms Indra Reddy said.

    She added that the police would conduct an impartial probe into the entire episode and book cases against the guilty, who ever they may be.

    The Home Minister further expressed confidence that the police would crack the case soon and the names of guilty would come to light.

    Meanwhile, a Court in Hindupur on Tuesday refused bail to Nandan Shetty, Srinivasan and Shekhar, the three persons who were arrested in connection with illegal transfer of money from Puttaparthi to Karnataka.

    According to information coming in, the Court rejected the petition filed by the lawyers representing the accused outright, when the police produced them before it.(INN)

    Motkupalli hails Kavitha's fast for Ambedkar's statue

    2012/4/14 6:33:15 Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and MLA Motkupalli Narasimhulu on Saturday hailed Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha for observing 48 hours hunger fast demanding installation of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly premises.

    Talking to media persons after garlanding the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Tank Bund to mark his 122nd birth anniversary, Motkupalli Narasimhulu said, “this is for the first time that a person from TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s family was sitting in the hunger fast for the cause of installing Dr Ambedkar’s statue.” He also expressed his solidarity for Kavitha's fast.

    Stating that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu has repeatedly demanded installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue, he said that leaders of all political parties have been mounting pressure on the government to take a favourable decision on the issue. At least now the government should respond and take steps for installing Ambedkar's statue soon in the assembly premises, he demanded. (INN)

    Shah Rukh's wax statue to be unveiled on April 3

    Just a few days remain when Shah Rukh Khan ’s wax statue at London’s Madame Tussauds museum will be unveiled.

    Experts from the museum have already met the Bollywood star and taken precise measurements of his physical features, his face and his hair.

    Work on the statue is said to be underway and the wax figure is expected to be completed by the end of March.

    Reports have it that a special ceremony has been planned at Madame Tussauds on April 3 for the unveiling of the statue by SRK himself. SRK will reportedly fly to London from Malaysia, where he will be for an awards function.

    It is learnt that a red carpet will be rolled out for the superstar at the museum. Plans are also afoot to close the Baker Street for traffic for sometime so that SRK’s fans in London can interact with him before the unveiling of the statue.

    Sources are quoted as saying that SRK is expected to appear at the unveiling ceremony in a very stylish way.

    Govt withdraws 657 cases against 'T' students

    2012/1/25 11:43:41 The State Government has withdrawn as many 657 cases booked against students during the Telangana agitation.

    Making the announcement at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday, Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said that the decision would benefit nearly 8,000 students. She said another 133 cases, which are now sub-judice, would also be withdrawn by this month-end.

    Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting convened with Law Minister Erasu Prathap Reddy and Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy at her chambers in the Secretariat, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that a GO withdrawing 657 cases would be issued on Wednesday. She said earlier the government had withdrawn 560 cases registered in connection with the violence during Telangana agitation.

    Admitting that the decision was delayed due to legal complications, she said other cases too would be withdrawn on case-to-case basis based on the legal opinion.

    The Home Minister asked the students not to worry about the cases and attend competitive exams as usual. She said the decision to withdraw the police cases was taken considering the career of students. (INN)

    Sabitha assures Manjira water to Vikarabad

    2012/1/9 13:21:15 Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Monday promised to give Manjira river water to Viakarabad town in Rangareddy district by month end.

    “The government will make all arrangements to inaugurate the drinking water supply project by the end of January and allocate enough funds,” she told reporters here.
    The Home Minister gave this assurance to the TRS protestors, led by former MLA Chandrasekhar, tried to picket her residence.

    The former MLA alleged that Sabitha failed to address the district problems and neglecting Vikarabad mandal after her election. With Home Minister giving the assurance, the TRS activists withdrew their dharna. (INN)

    Karimnagar police prevents Kavitha from unveiling statue

    2012/2/26 3:02:19 Karimnagar, Feb 26 (INN): Telangana Jagruti president K Kavitha was taken into custody by the Karimnagar police on Sunday while she was proceeding to a village to unveil the statue of tribal leadeer Kommaram Bheem.

    Kavitha was arrested near Chittakani in Kataram mandal. She was scheduled to go Yemenpalli near Manthan of Karimnagar district. Police said that the statue was installed without permission and therefore, its unveiling was disallowed by the police.

    Kavitha was later released by the police.

    Sabitha visits violence-hit Sangareddy town

    2012/3/30 8:29:17 Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Friday stated that the government would take stern action against the communal elements who disturbed peace in the Sangareddy town on Thursday night.

    Talking to media persons after visiting the violence-hit areas in Sanga Reddy town, the Home Minister warned the anti-social elements of stern action. She said that the government would not spare anyone, irrespective of their status. She appealed to the people in the town to observe restraint and help the police in maintaining law and order in the town.

    Earlier in the day, defying the curfew, some groups gathered and resorted to stone pelting. Police burst teargas shells to control the mobs. At least 20 people were reportedly injured in the violence and nearly 40 shops have been gutted in the town.

    Earlier, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation in Sangareddy at a high-level meeting and asked the officials to take all steps to bring situation under control. He also directed the District Collector Suresh Kumar and Superintendent of Police to submit a report on the violence. Local MLA Jagga Reddy also visited the injured persons at the hospital. (INN)

    Botsa to assume charge on Saturday

    2011/6/9 9:40:03 Minister for Labour Danam Nagender on Thursday stated that the newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana will assume charge on June 11.

    Hyderabad brothers put up Indira Gandhi statue

    2007/11/19 2:38:00 The Hyderabad brothers P Janardhan Reddy and Mari Sasidhar Reddy are taking the initiative to install a statue of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Hyderabad today. Today is her 90th birth anniversary.

    A statue ofIndira Gandhi is being installed at Shiparamam cross roads near Hitech city. P Janardhana Reddy has taken the initiative. Some congress party leaders are however grumbling and are not happy. The reason is that Janardhan Reedy is treating it as a personal affair rather than a party function.

    Many congress leaders have not been informed about it nor have received any invitation. Verappa Moily will unveil the statue in the presence of chief minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy this afternoon.

    CBI grills Sabitha in Jagan's assets case

    2012/5/18 7:19:26 Hyderabad, May 18 (INN): The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday grilled Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy in connection with disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

    According to sources, the CBI officials questioned Sabitha at her residence for more than three hours about the permissions and licenses granted to certain cement companies, which allegedly made investments into the companies owned by Jagan under quid pro quo arrangement.

    Sabita Indra Reddy was the Minister for Mines and Geology in Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's Cabinet from 2004 to 2009. She reportedly informed the probing agency CBI that the licenses were given to the cement companies as per the decision taken by the cabinet and that she did not violate any norms while issuing the orders.

    Sabitha Indra Reddy is the third minister questioned by the CBI in Jagan's assets case.

    Earlier, the CBI questioned Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkatramna and Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, who were ministers for Infrastructure and Revenue respectively in YSR's cabinet. The CBI officials said that they might question Sabitha again, if needed.

    Kavita begins hunger fast for Dr Ambedkar's statue

    2012/4/13 8:34:19 Demanding installation of constitutional architect Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in the premises of State Legislative Assembly, Telangana Jagruti president K Kavita on Friday launched a 48-hour hunger strike at Indira Park.

    Talking to media persons after starting the hunger strike, Kavita appealed to Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to take steps for establishing Ambedkar's statue beside the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. She said that the installation of Ambedkar's statue would uphold the respect towards law making institutions among the legislators.

    Kavitha said that the Dalits and Backward Classes communities have been enjoying the benefits in educational institutions and in employment due to reservation provided by Dr Ambedkar in the constitution. She demanded that the government announce decision on establishing the statue by Saturday on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar's birthday.

    Kavitha warned that she would intensify her agitation if government did not take a favourable decision on it.

    Meanwhile, YSR Congress party dalit unit members and Lok Satta party expressed solidarity with Kavita’s hunger fast. (INN)

    Sabitha visits violence-hit areas

    2012/4/9 3:50:13 Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Monday claimed that the situation in violence affected areas in the Old City was peaceful and normal.

    Talking to media persons after conducting a review meeting with police officials at Charminar Assistant Commissioner of Police office, the Home Minister directed the officials not to spare anyone who disturbs peace in the areas and act sternly against the anti-social elements. Earlier she visited the Madannapet, Saidabad, Champapet, Hari Bowli, Talab Katta and surrounding areas.

    Sabitha said that nearly 60 persons have been taken into custody in connection with the clashes in the areas. She said that all cases have been shifted to Special Investigation Team for further investigations. She appealed the people not to worry or believe rumours and observe restraint and peace to maintain communal harmony. She also sought people's cooperation in maintaining law and order situation.

    Responding to lifting of curfew in the violent-hit areas, the Home Minister said that the police would consider lifting the curfew in a phased manner based upon the situation. She said that the curfew and violence did not affect the SSC and degree examinations. She also said that the government was considering paying compensation to the victims of both Sangareddy and Old City communal violence.

    Earlier, a delegation of Muslims Rights Forum called on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his Camp Office and appealed him to take all steps to bring normalcy in the violence-hit areas. They appealed him to direct the police to act sternly against perpetrators of violence.

    Meanwhile, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with the Home Minister and senior police officials including DGP V Dinesh Reddy. During the meeting the police officials briefed the Chief Minister about the prevailing situation in the Old City and the steps taken to bring back normalcy. (INN)

We have seen how the situation turns worse in a matter of 24hours in Amalapuram with the demolition of Dr.Ambedkar's statues. As an indication of the mania spreading to other places, some miscreants in Ramapuram in Nalgonda district have damaged the statue of late NTR on yesterday night. Police starts investigating the case. TDP president Chandrababu said it is shameful to vandalize the statue of late NTR who made all the Telugu people proud of him. He demands an immediate action on the culprits.

    Platform for YSR statue dismantled

    2011/1/22 21:01:11 The unveiling late YSR statues all over the state are leading to tensions among the people who belong to Jagan’s camp and the others. The same thing happened now again, this time in Mydakur in Kadapa district.

    A platform constructed by Jagan’s loyalists to erect late YSR’s statue at Tupalli junction in Mydakur was dismantled by R&B and Police on Saturday mid night. The concerned officials stated that, they did so because if the statue is erected in that particular location, it will be obstructing the road widening program.

    However, Jagan’s followers have blamed Minister DL Ravindra Reddy for encouraging the R&B officials for dismantling the platform. They said that, the selected location of the statue doesn’t fall in the way but it’s beside a bus stop, where no road can be widened beyond it.
