Better facilities for Ramzan than last time: Maheedhar

2011/7/13 8:31:27 During the coming Ramzan, in all probability beginning from August 2, the state government will offer all facilities, better than last time, to those participating in the Holy Month’s fasting programme.

“We will offer better services than last year,” said Minister for Municipal Administration M Maheedhar Reddy, speaking to a group of journalists who called on him in his chambers at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Ministers from city Danam Nagender (Labour and Employment) and Mukesh Goud (Marketing and Warehousing), will be consulted to take all the measures necessary for smooth conduct of the religious prayers at all the mosques particularly the Makkah Masjid located in the old city.

The Departments of Wakf and Municipal Administration will work in tandem to ensure good sanitation, cleanliness at the places of worship.

Besides this, on July 20, a meeting with the top brass of the police department would be held to discuss law and order and to see that peace is ensured during the Holy Month.

“Ramzan festival is for all, and whoever got faith in God would take part in the festivities and fasting,” said the Minister without mincing words.

Arrangements will be made to step up security at the places of worship, divert traffic wherever necessary and to remove hurdles if any so that the prayers could be offered conveniently and peacefully.

Over and above all these preparations, the Municipal Administration Department will take measures for sale of good and fresh food at all the hotels visited by the people after prayers.

Steps will also be taken to prevent sale of adulterated or stocked food items to the visitors. “The government is firm on this aspect,” said the Minister.

The Minister was caught unawares as he was not kept abreast of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s instructions on ‘Ramzan’ festival by his OSD.

However Mr Maheedhar Reddy did not hesitate to take the clue from the Chief Minister’s press note furnished to him.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister issued instructions to the Municipal Administration Minister to discuss arrangements for ensuing Ramzan with his colleagues Syed Ahmedullah, Wakf and Minorities Minister and city Ministers Danam Nagender and Mukesh Goud.

The Chief Minister also desired that required civic and other facilities be provided during the cited month.(INN)

    Ramzan releases

    2007/10/3 3:36:26

There is hardly 10 days more for Ramzan- October 12 Friday. For the Malayalam film industry, it is the second biggest festival season after Onam. Remember during the one-month Noyambu (Fasting) period there was no Malayalam releases, and theatres were having as low as 10 percent occupancy in towns. Now with the Perunal(Ramzan) on October 12 or 13, it is going to be boom time, especially in Malabar area of the state which accounts for nearly 45 percent of the Kerala box-office. The Ramzan releases are impressive and the crowds are sure to lap them up. Mammootty's Nasarani will be the Ramzan biggie and is likely to release in 55 centers in Kerala.

The film will release on October 12, Friday at 2 pm, all over Kerala, there will not be any morning or noon show on the opening day. A Mammookka film for Perunal usually takes a bumper opening,( Remember Rajamanickam opening in 2005 Ramzan?) and Nasarani is a typical mass masala and will open big. Mohanlal's off-beat Pardesi is his big Ramzan release on October 12, and it is likely to open in 40 screens. Mohanlal plays the role of Valiyakathu Moosa, and the film is all about his life and times from the age of 30 to 80. The fans of the star are waiting to see him do this difficult role. Suresh Gopi's long delayed Black Cat is now almost certain to release for Ramzan. The director of the film Vinayan in a magnanimous gesture has waived his salary, so that the film will release! Pritviraj is the lone male student studying in a womens college and three hot girls –Roma, Remya and Samvrutha are after him in Chocolate! The Shafi directed rollicking comedy has also Jayasurya in an important role. It is the only 'youth film' due for Ramzan on October 12.

ICC should make DRS mandatory: Ponting

    2011/12/27 17:23:49

Melbourne, Dec 27 (IANS) Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting Tuesday fired a subtle shot at the Indian cricket board saying that the decision review system should be compulsory in Test cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has objected to the use of Decision Review System (DRS) since it has doubts about its accuracy and doesn't accept its use in any series in which India plays.

Ponting said it made no sense that DRS was not used in all Tests and the International Cricket Council (ICC) had to be bold and make it non-negotiable.

'I thought that was the way it was when it first came in, that it was compulsory in every series we played, but apparently not,' Ponting told ABC radio.

'It's just this one series against India it keeps popping up we are not using this system. As players you want uniformity around the world and you want consistency in the technology ... that's all we are after,' he said.

Both Mike Hussey and then Ed Cowan couldn't challenge after they were incorrectly given out by umpire Marais Erasmus at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here Monday.
