Rajagopal in CBI custody till Nov 21

The CBI Special Court on Monday remanded V D Rajagopal, former director of Mines and Geology, who was arrested on Sunday in Obulapuram Mining Corporation illegal mining case, to CBI custody till Nov 21.

The counsel for Central Bureau of Investigation sought 13 days custody of Rajagopal for questioning. However, the court gave seven-day custody to the CBI for further interrogation. The court directed the CBI counsel to investigate Rajagopal in front of his lawyer from 10 am to 5 pm and record his statements.

Rajagopal was the third accused to be arrested in the case registered by the CBI against OMC in 2009. He was questioned several times by the CBI in the last two months regarding his role in granting leases and licenses to OMC and other mining companies in violation of rules. He was the director mines from 2005 to 2010. (INN)

    Rajagopal's judicial custody extended till Dec 9

    2011/11/25 14:05:24 The CBI Special Court on Friday extended the judicial remand of former AP mining director VD Rajagopal, presently lodged in Chanchalguda Jail, till December 9.

    The court extended the remand of Rajagopal by conducting the proceedings through video-conference from the Chanchalguda Jail. The orders were issued as his judicial custody was due to expire on Friday. However, the court did not give any directions to probing agency over Rajagopal's bail petition or his plea to grant special category status for him in the Chanchalguda Jail.

    The court is yet to decide on on his appeal to see his 95-year-old mother at his native place.

    Rajagopal is the third accused in the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Corporation owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. (INN)

    Rajagopal's judicial remand extended till Dec 15

    2011/12/9 8:48:04 The CBI Special Court on Friday extended the judicial remand of former mines director V D Rajagopal to December 15. He was arrested last month in connection with the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Corporation.

    The judicial custody was extended after he was produced in the court at the expiry of his judicial remand. Earlier, the court reserved its orders on his bail petition and seeking special prisoner status in the Chanchalguda Jail. Rajagopal had applied for bail for the second time after his first bail petition was rejected by the court.

    Rajagopal had also appealed to the court to consider the allotment of special category cell on the grounds that he belongs to a respectable family, did not do anything wrong and was an honest government officer. He also said that he was suffering from diabetes and other ailments.

    Rajagopal is the third accused in the illegal mining case of OMC, owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. The probing agency has booked Rajagopal under several sections of IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act, Forest and Mines and Mineral Acts. (INN)

    Rajagopal's bail petition hearing adjourned to Nov 29

    2011/11/23 12:15:21 The CBI Special Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on bail petition filed by former mines director V D Rajagopal to November 29. Rajagopal is third accused in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation's illegal mining case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

    Rajagopal has been charged with granting mining leases in violation of the rules to the OMC owned by former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. He has approached the court seeking bail last week. He also filed a petition seeking Special Status for him in the Chanchalguda Central Jail.
    After hearing the arguments of Rajagopal's counsel, the Special Court has adjourned the hearing to Nov 29.

    Earlier, the court has remanded Rajagopal to judicial custody till Nov 25. He has denied the all the charges against him and sought bail citing ill-health as the reason. In his petition, he stated that he was diabetic and needs medical attention on regular basis and also need to look after his 95-year old mother. (INN)

    Gali, others judicial remand extended till Feb 8

    2012/1/25 9:33:35 The Special CBI court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of four accused in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation till February 8.

    The court extended the custody of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy, former director of AP Mines and Geology department VD Rajagopal and senior IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, all accused in the illegal mining case.

    Three accused - Janardhan Reddy,Srinivas Reddy and Rajagopal were produced before the CBI Court through video-linkage from the Chanchalguda Central Prison. However, Srilakshmi was brought to the Nampally court as there was no video-conference facility in the Chanchalguda Women’s Prison.

    The court granted special category status to Srilakshmi in the jail. The court gave this direction following a petition filed by Srilakshmi earlier.

    Janardhan Reddy requested the court to consider his bail application as the CBI has already filed charge sheet in connection with the case. However, the CBI's counsel opposed his bail petition stating he might tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses. (INN)

    CBI court extends custody of OMC, Emaar cases accused

    2012/2/22 6:35:54 The CBI Special court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, OMC managing director B Srinivas Reddy, former mines director V D Rajagipal and another accused IAS officer Y Srilakshmi to March 7.

    The CBI court extended the judicial custody of the four accused following expiry of their custody on Wednesday.

    The designated court also extended the judicial custody of B P Acharya, Koneru Prasad, Sunil Reddy and Vijaya Raghavan, the accused in the Emaar scam, up to March 7.

    However, the court rejected the CBI petition seeking further police custody of Srilakshmi and Rajagopal contending that the petition did not address the issue correctly. (INN)

    Gali custody till Oct 17th

    2011/10/3 5:33:00 The special court for Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday once again extended the judicial custody of former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B V Srinivasa Reddy till October 17.

    The special court passed this order after the investigating agency filed a memo seeking extension of their judicial custody, which was ending on Monday.

    The judge conducted the hearing via video linkage between the court and Chanchalguda Central Jail, where the accused are lodged.

    The CBI officials said the accused were not brought to the Nampally Criminal Court complex due to security reasons.

    The court on September 30th once again dismissed the bail petitions of the mining baron and his brother-in-law. The same day, the court refused to remand the accused into further custody of the CBI.

    The probing agency had arrested the duo from Bellary in Karnataka on September 5 in connection with illegal mining in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

    They were brought to state capital Hyderabad the same day and the court sent them to judicial custody till September 19. The judge on September 13 rejected bail pleas of the accused and remanded them to CBI custody for six days.

    The court later extended the judicial custody of the accused till October 3.(INN)

    Gali and two others remand extended till Dec 29

    2011/12/15 9:47:49 The CBI Special Court on Thursday extended the judicial remand of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy and former IAS officer VD Rajagopal, the key accused in the illegal mining case of the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), till December 29.

    While Gali Janardhan Reddy and Srinivas Reddy were arrested on September 5, Rajagopal was arrested on November 14 by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the OMC illegal mining case registered on Dec 7, 2009. Suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi and OMC Director B Rajasekhar have also been arrested in the case. Except Srilakshmi, who has been granted bail, all other accused are lodged in the Chanchalguda Central Prison.

    The court on Thursday extended the custody after conducting the proceedings through video-conference from the Chanchalguda Central Prison. It was the sixth time that the prison officials produced the accused through video linkage. (INN)

    Sunil Reddy in CBI custody till Jan 29

    2012/1/27 10:11:23 The CBI special court on Friday remanded Sunil Reddy, an accused in the Emaar case, to CBI custody till January 29.

    The special court granted two-and-half days' CBI custody to Sunil Reddy and asked the CBI official to produce him before the court on Monday by 2 pm.
    Earlier, the investigating agency sought 15 days custody to interrogate Sunil Reddy on various Emaar deals. However, the court granted only two-and-half day custody. The CBI in its petition stated that Sunil Reddy tried to evade arrest by frequently changing his residence.

    However, Sunil Reddy himself came to the Dilkusha Guest House, CBI's temporary headquarters, on January 24. Based on the evidences that the CBI possessed against him, he was arrested.

    The CBI said that Sunil Reddy needs to be questioned about the whereabouts of money collected from buyers of the villas of Emaar-APIIC township.

    The CBI observed that Sunil Reddy and another accused Koneru Prasad of Stylish Homes, together hatched a criminal conspiracy. (INN)

    Court stays Rajagopal's bail till Dec 19

    2011/12/16 7:52:22 A few hours after granting bail to former director of mines department VD Rajagopal in the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC), the Special CBI Court on Thursday stayed his release on bail till December 19.

    Earlier, while granting bail the court had asked Rajagopal to furnish two sureties of Rs 50,000 each and surrender his passport. He was also asked not to leave the city without the permission of Central Bureau of Investigation.

    However, the CBI counsel immediately filed a petition stating that Rajagopal's release at this juncture might affect the investigation. The CBI contended that Rajagopal might influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence. Following this plea, the court has stayed Rajagopal's release on bail till Dec 19.

    The court has also reserved the verdict on the bail petition of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. The decision on Gali's brother-in-law and OMC managing director BV Srinivas Reddy is also pending with the court.

    Earlier, the court had extended the judicial remand of Janardhan Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and Rajagopal to December 29 after hearing the case through video-linkage from the Chanchalguda Central Prison. However, a few hour later the court granted bail to Rajagopal and later stayed the same.

    While Gali Janardhan Reddy and Srinivas Reddy were arrested on September 5, Rajagopal was arrested on November 14 by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the OMC illegal mining case registered on Dec 7, 2009. Suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi and OMC Director B Rajasekhar were also arrested in the case. While Srilakshmi was granted bail, all other accused were lodged in the Chanchalguda Central Prison.     Court extends judicial remand of Emaar case accused

    2012/4/18 3:24:36 Hyderabad, April 18 (INN): The CBI Special Court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of three accused including senior bureaucrat BP Acharya in the APIIC-Emaar scam.

    While BP Acharya's judicial remand has been extended till April 27, the judicial custody of Sunil Reddy, a close aide of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been extended till April 23. The judicial custody of Emaar MGF Land Limited South Indian Finance head G V Vijay Raghav has been extended till April 26. The court took this decision as their jucial custody expired on Wednesday.

    According to reports, the probing agency is likely to file charge sheet in the APIIC-Emaar scam by next week.

    CBI arrests Raja Gopal, Ex.Dir.of Mines

    2011/11/13 6:39:37 (IANS) A former Andhra Pradesh government official has been arrested in connection with the illegal mining case involving former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy's mining firm, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Sunday.

    The CBI Saturday night arrested V.D. Rajagopal, who as then director of mines allegedly favoured Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) by granting licences for iron ore mining in Anantapur district bordering Karnataka.

    The former official was taken into custody after he was questioned till late Saturday night at the CBI office here.

    Rajagopal will be produced before a magistrate later in the day.

    He is the third accused to be arrested in the case registered by the CBI against OMC in 2009.

    The investigating agency had arrested Janardhana Reddy, and his brother-in-law and OMC managing director B.V. Srinivas Reddy from Bellary in Karnataka Sep 5. They are lodged at Chanchalguda Central Jail here.

    Rajagopal was questioned several times by the CBI in the last two months regarding his role in granting leases and licenses to OMC and other mining companies in violation of rules. He was director mines from 2005 to 2010.

    On Dec 7, 2009, the CBI had registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy against OMC and others. They were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Corruption Act, Indian Forest Act and Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.

    Koneru's CBI custody extended till Nov 14

    2011/11/11 6:25:10 The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Thursday extended the CBI custody of Stylish Homes managing director Koneru Prasad till November 14.

    The counsel of Central Bureau of Investigation appealed to the court to extend Koneru Prasad's custody further as they needed to interrogate him for some more days to extract information in connection with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation-Emaar land scam. It may be mentioned that Koneru Prasad was arrested last week and the court has remanded him to CBI custody.

    The CBI told the court that Prasad has not been cooperating with it during the interrogation and sought another eight days of his custody for further interrogation. “The investigating agency wants to know where Prasad has hidden all the black money that he has collected from the buyers of villas and plots in the Emaar Township,” the CBI counsel told the court.

    The agency also informed the court that Prasad has confessed to have earned Rs 30 crore illegally through the land scam deals but the amount was certainly more as details are yet to be extracted from him. However, Prasad told the court that the CBI official has been harassing him mentally in the name of investigation. “I am unable to face such serious harassment,” Koneru Prasad said. (INN)

    Ex-Andhra official jailed in illegal mining case

    2011/11/21 7:51:42 (IANS) A special court dealing with CBI cases Monday sent a former Andhra Pradesh government official to judicial custody in an illegal mining case involving former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy.

    The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented former director of mines V.D. Rajagopal in the court as his month-long custody ended Monday. The judge remanded him to judicial custody till Friday.

    The former official was then sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail, where Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B.V. Srinivasa Reddy are already lodged.

    The CBI moved a petition seeking Rajagopal's custody for another week and the same will come up for hearing Friday. CBI officials say they require further custody of the accused to gather more information about the role of other public servants.

    As the then director of mines, Rajagaopal allegedly favoured Janardhana Reddy's Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) by granting leases for iron ore mining in Anantapur district bordering Karnataka.

    Rajagopal, who is the third accused in the case registered by the CBI against OMC in 2009, was arrested Nov 12.

    Janardhana Reddy and Srinivasa Reddy were arrested from Bellary in Karnataka Sep 5.

    On Dec 7, 2009, the CBI had registered a case of cheating, criminal conspiracy, theft and criminal trespass against OMC and others.

    The CBI Sunday questioned senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer M.G.V.K. Bhanu in the case. Bhanu was grilled for six hours about his alleged role in granting mining leases to OMC as the special secretary to then chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

    The IAS officer of Assam cadre is currently the chairman of Tea Board. The investigating agency has already questioned another IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, who also allegedly played a key role in granting mining leases.

    Srilakshmi, who is accused number four in the case, was then the industries secretary incharge of mines. She is now the family welfare commissioner.

    The investigating agency has already questioned Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, who was minister for mines from 2004 to 2009.

    It also questioned late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy for his alleged business links with Janardhana Reddy.

    2011/11/22 16:16:36 Trimex Group chairman Koneru Prasad, who was granted interim bail for five days to visit Sabarimala in Kerala for “Ayyappa Deeksha,” on Tuesday surrendered before the Central Bureau of Investigation Special Court at Nampally on the completion of his bail period.

    The court has remanded Koneru Prasad to judicial custody till December 2. Following the court orders, the CBI officials shifted him to Chanchalguda Central Jail. He was arrested by CBI in connection with Emaar-APIIC township project scam.

    Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the hearing on his petition seeking `A’ class status in the jail to Wednesday.

    The court has also adjourned the hearing on the petitions of former mines director V D Rajagopal seeking bail and special status in Chanchalguda Jail to Wednesday. He was arrested for his alleged role in illegal iron-ore mining by the Obulapuram Mining Corporation owned by former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.     Srilakshmi in CBI custody till Dec 1

    2011/11/29 7:46:28 The CBI Special Court on Tuesday granted three-day CBI custody to senior IAS officer Y Sri Lakshmi for further interrogation into the Obulapuram Mining Corporation's illegal mining case.

    Sri Lakshmi, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday for her alleged role in the OMC scam, was produced before the CBI Special Court in the Criminal Courts Complex at Nampally here on Tuesday. The court first remanded Sri Lakshmi to judicial custody till December 12. However, the CBI filed a petition in the court seeking 15-day custody for further investigation.

    After hearing the CBI's plea, the court allowed the CBI to interrogate Sri Lakshmi for three days. It directed the CBI to produce her before the court on December 1 by 4 pm. The court also asked the CBI to interrogate her in the presence of her lawyers.

    Meanwhile, Sri Lakshmi filed a petition seeking Special Category Prisoner status for her in the jail. The court posted the matter for hearing on December 2.

    Earlier, the probing agency conducted Sri Lakshmi's medical examination at its office at Sultan Bazar in Koti where she was kept since Monday evening on court's order.

    It may be mentioned that Sri Lakshmi was arrested from her office at the Health and Family Welfare Commissionarate at Koti on Monday. She is the second IAS fficer to be arrested in the OMC case, booked by the CBI in 2009. Earlier, IAS officer and former mines director V Rajagopal was arrested as the third accused in the case. OMC owner and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and his brother-in-law and OMC's managing director B Srinivas Reddy were arrested from Bellary earlier.

    Sri Lakshmi has been booked under various sections including 420, 120 (B) and 385 for her alleged role in the OMC scam. She has reportedly confessed of having allotted the Antha Gangamma Konda (AGK) mines, spread over three locations in Anantapur district, to Gali Janardhan Reddy’s OMC in violation of the Mines and Minerals Development Regulations Act, 1957.
    However, she said that the allotment was done under pressure from the higher ups. She has reportedly named the then minister for mines and geology and present home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and senior IAS officer M G V K Bhanu who pressurised her to sign the leases to OMC. (INN)

    2011/11/14 15:12:46 The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Monday remanded Stylish Homes managing director Koneru Prasad to judicial custody till November 18.

    Earlier, the CBI sleuths produced Koneru Prasad in the court at the end of his custody period on Monday. The CBI's counsel appealed to the court to extend the custody further as they needed to interrogate him for some more days to extract information in connection with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation – Emaar land scam. However, the court rejected the CBI's plea and remanded him to judicial custody till Nov 18.

    Following the directions of court, the officials shifted him to Chanchalguda Jail.

    It may be mentioned that Koneru Prasad was arrested last week and the court has remanded him to CBI custody for seven days.     The agency also informed the court that Prasad has confessed to have earned Rs 30 crore illegally through the land scam deals.

    Meanwhile, Koneru Prasad moved a petition seeking bail for five days to perform Ayappa ritual in Kerala. Admitting the petition, the court asked the CBI to file its counter. The hearing on bail petition has been posted for Tuesday. (INN)

    Vijay Sai's judicial custody till Feb 14

    2012/1/31 8:14:46 The CBI Special Court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Vijay Sai Reddy till February 14. Reddy, the vice-chairman of Jagathi Publications, was arrested by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

    The custody was extended after the CBI produced him in the court after the end of his judicial remand on Tuesday. He was arrested on January 2 and was also questioned by the CBI for eight days with regard to the investments made by various firms into Jagathi Publications and other companies owned by Jagan.

    The CBI believes that Vijay Sai Reddy, as financial advisor of Jagan's group of companies, played a key role in mobilising investments both from within the country and from abroad. He is the second accused in the case.

    The special court also adjourned the bail petition of Vijay Sai Reddy to February 9 following objections raised by the CBI. The CBI counsel also filed a petition in the court opposing his bail petition. (INN)
