T Cong MLAs to hold protests on Nov 1

The Telangana Congress MLAs on Friday decided to organize protests on November 1, the State Formation Day, across the Telangana region in protest against the Centre’s failure to announce a decision on Telangana.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended Congress MLAs from the region at the Central Court Hotel at Lakdi-ka-Pul. In the meeting, the MLAs discussed various issues including lifting of police cases against Telangana activists, who participated in statehood agitation, special financial package for farmers who lost crop due to power cuts, declaration of drought hit areas in Telangana region and announcement of a special package.

Stating that the resignation would not solve the Telangana issue, the MLAs said that they would visit their constituencies to redress people’s grievances without expecting any political mileage.

The Congress MLAs said that they would not allow TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to enter Telangana region until he makes his stand clear on the statehood issue. They also announced that they would organise dharnas in the national capital to mount pressure on the High Command on the Telangana issue.

However, the Congress MLAs said they were yet to take a decision on whether or not to participate in the Racha Banda programme scheduled to begin from November 2. They said the decision on Racha Banda would be taken in the next meeting. (INN)

T activists protest outside ministers, MLAs' houses

2011/9/29 5:29:12 Pro-Telangana activists on Thursday laid seize to the residences of several ministers, MLAs and MPs across the region.

Following a call by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee to stage protests in front of legislators who have not resigned from their posts for the cause of Telangana, the activists on Thursday staged massive protests before their houses.

In Mahabubnagar district, students and political activists 'gheroad' the residence of Union Petroleoum Minsiter S Jaipal Reddy at Madgula. The activists demanded that he resign from his post and participate in the agitation. The activists also held protests at the residence of Shadnagar MLA Pratap Reddy. They have also pelted eggs at his residence.

Protests were organised in front of Minister Sudarshan Reddy in Nizamabad. Describing him as a 'betrayer' of Telangana, the T-JAC activists demanded that he resign from his post.

In the State capital, the Telangana advocates organised protests in front of Labour Minsiter Danam Nagender's residence at Banjara Hills. They played 'chavu dappu', a band which is played during funerals.

Similar protests were held at Musheerabad MLA T Maniamma's residence at Banjara Hills. TRS activists led by former MLA N Narasimha Reddy laid seize to her house and demanded that she resign immediately. Protests were also held in front of the residences of Uppal MLA Rajireddy and Qutubullalpur MLA K Srisailam Goud.

Police took several Telangana activists into custody for staging these protests. (INN)

T Cong. MLAs give shock to TRS

    2011/3/14 0:54:20

The MLAs and MLCs of the congress party from Telangana have been boycotting the assembly session for some time now. With members of the TRS and the TDP from Telangana too boycotting the session, the proceedings have been conducted sand any representative from Telangana.

The T Congress MLAs and MLCs have now decided to end their boycott and attend the Assembly session. This comes as a big jolt to the TRS. The TRS has been successful so far in uniting all the Telangana legislators but with the latest move, the TRS stand has been diluted a lot.

Ponguleti hails MLAs' return from YSR Cong

2011/11/20 12:03:48 All India Congress Committee secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar on Sunday hailed the decision of party MLAs who have decided to return to the Congress party from the YSR Congress camp.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, Ponguleti said that the decision of MLAs to join the YSR Congress was hasty. However, they have now realised their mistake and are returning to Congress, he said adding that it would be an 'honourable' re-entry for all the MLAs. He said the MLAs have joined the YSR Congress party due to their affection towards former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and not because of Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The AICC secretary said that the Congress party would not cow down to threats being issued by some vested elements to destabilize the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government. He claimed that there was no threat to the government as no could scare the Congress MLAs or lure them. He said that the Congress party enjoys majority and the No Confidence Motion likely to be moved by the Telugu Desam Party against the government would be defeated on the floor of the house. (INN)

YSR Cong dares CM to seek Vote of Confidence

2011/6/9 9:20:35 The YSR Congress Party on Thursday demanded that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy seek a Vote of Confidence in the state Assembly instead of seeking the resignations of MLAs loyal to Kadapa MP-elect YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

Talking to a private television channel, YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Konda Surekha challenged Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to prove his majority on the Floor of the House instead of seeking the resignations of his MLAs.

“The Chief Minister must prove his majority by introducing a Confidence Motion,” Ms Surekha said, less than 24 hours after Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy dared the Legislators loyal to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy to resign from their posts.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, while speaking at the party workers’ meeting at Srikakulam, had said that the Congress knows ‘how to deal with them’ (Jagan loyalists).

Reacting to the remarks, Ms Surekha alleged that the Chief Minister had made those remarks to assert his authority since he felt threatened due to the appointment of Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana as the Pradesh Congress Committee president.

The staunch Jaganmohan Reddy loyalist further claimed that the smooth victory of Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was made possible only with the support of the MLAs loyal to the YSR Congress Party.

“Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is seeking the resignations of pro-Jagan MLAs to show that he hold the upper hand and all the Congress leaders are subservient to him,” she stated.

“For the election of Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the Congress needed the support of Jagan loyalist MLAs,” she said.

The former minister further added that the Chief Minister has no moral right to demand the resignations of the MLAs.

TRS, YSR Cong MLAs sold out to Cong, alleges TDP

2011/12/3 15:52:46 Telugu Desam Party Deputy Floor Leader Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu on Saturday called upon the YSR Congress Party and Telangana Rashtra Samiti members to support the No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

Talking to media persons at Assembly's Media Point, Gali said that the YSR Congress and TRS members, who dared the TDP to introduce the no trust motion, have to prove their sincerity by supporting it in the House. When the Speaker Nadendla Manohar sought votes for debating motion, he said that the TRS members have been walked out of House and YSR Congress party MLAs did not support it. "This indicates that they have been sold out to Congress party and decided to save the government," he alleged.

When the reporters asked as to why he was making allegations against TRS MLAs when they clearly stated that they would vote against the government, another TDP MLA K S Ratnam shotback while accusing the media personnel of showing love towards TRS and YSR Congress. These remarks led to a heated argument between the scribes and K S Ratnam. In protest, the reporters demanded an apology from him. However, without saying anything Ratnam left the venue. (INN)

Errabelli says T-Cong MLAs ignored TP-JAC, TRS appeals

2011/12/6 12:58:50 The Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Tuesday criticised the Congress MLAs from the Telangana region for voting against the No Confidence Motion.

Talking to reporters in the assembly premises, Errabelli asked Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao as to why they have achieved by supporting the Telangana Congress MLAs. "The MLAs simply ignored the requests of Prof Kodandaram and KCR and voted in favour of the government," he said. He reminded that former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had earlier announced that he would resign from the Congress party if it fails to announce separate Telangana by December 1. However, he said Komatireddy not only stayed with the party, but also cast his vote to save the government.

Errabelli said that unlike Congress MLAs, the TDP MLAs from the region were always committed for Telangana and all 32 members have even resigned to the post for the statehood cause. Reiterating his appeal, he said that all political leaders from the region should fight unitedly for the cause of separate Telangana. (INN)

10 pro-Jagan MLAs will return to Cong, claims Minister

2011/9/2 9:56:01 At least 10 out of 26 MLAs who have submitted resignation in favour of Jagam Mohan Reddy may return to the Congress soon, claimed Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy here on Friday.

As many as 26 Congress MLAs have resigned to their post in protest against the inclusion of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s name in the CBI’s FIR in disproportionate assets case against Jaganmohan Reddy.

Talking to media persons, the Health minister alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy forced the MLAs to submit their resignation and they were not given an opportunity to think even once about the consequences and their future. Regretting their decision, he said that some MLAs have contacted the Congress leaders seeking to withdraw their resignations and making efforts to rejoin Congress party.

Ravindra Reddy expressed confidence at least 10 MLAs would rejoin the Congress party soon and seek apology from Pradesh Congress Committee chief Botsa Satyanarayana for their wrong decision. He alleged that Jagan established YSR Congress party only with an intention to loot the state and protect his assets. (INN)

TDP will hold dharna in Vizianagaram on Monday: Yerran Naidu

2012/4/22 3:12:57 Srikakulam, April 22 (INN): The Telugu Desam Party has announced that it would hold dharna against the liquor syndicate in Vizianagaram on Monday, at any cost.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, former MP and TDP polit-bureau member K Yerran Naidu said that his party was firm on holding a dharna on Monday, even if the local police deny permission. He warned that the State Government would be responsible for the consequences of preventing TDP's dharna in the district.

Yerran Naidu asked the local police to explain the reasons for denying permission to the TDP to hold protest in the district. He alleged that Pradesh Congress Committee President Botsa Satyanarayana was pressuring the local police to deny permission to TDP's dharna. He said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu has been the Chief Minister for almost nine years and it was wrong on the part of local police to deny him permission to stage protest.

The TDP leader alleged that the police has been flouting norms by denying permission and in a democratic country everyone was free to hold peaceful protests.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Narasimhulu said that the Telangana Congress MLAs should vote against the government to prove their commitment towards the statehood. He said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh changed their stand on Telangana repeatedly. Therefore, the Congress MLAs must teach them a lesson by voting in favour of the No Confidence Motion. Asking the Congress MLAs to break their silence, he demanded that they announce their support for the No Confidence Motion.

Narasimhulu also asked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and YSR Congress MLAs to clarify their stand by voting in favour of the No Confidence Motion. He also criticised the Speaker for not allowing discussion on the No Confidence Motion only for one day. He said that the TDP has moved the motion due to the failure of Kiran Kumar Reddy Government on several fronts and more time was required for discussions. (INN)

    2011/12/3 16:01:23

Cong MLAs to attend assembly session:CLP

2012/3/2 6:36:36 Government chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy on Friday appealed to all MLAs to attend the House regularly to rebut opposition charges on various issues.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office after the conclusion of CLP's Executive Committee meeting, he said the that all the MLAs have been asked to attend the Assembly session regularly to effectively counter the opposition on various public issues.

As opposition parties have been pressing the government on various issues which might brought disrepute to the government, he said that the CLP has asked all Congress MLAs to ensure their presence in the House all the time. He said that the meeting has also unanimously decided to increase the individual contribution of all CLP members from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 for the maintenance of CLP office.

According to sources, of 158 ruling party members including the PRP MLAs, less than 20 MLAs turned up for the session several times. With treasury benches remaining empty most of the time, it became easier for the Opposition to cornering the government on various issues.

The meeting also discussed about gearing up the party for ensuing by-elections and local body elections. (INN)

People would not forgive rebel MLAs: Cong

2011/12/11 14:46:40 Srikakulam, Dec 11 (INN): Government whip Kondru Murali Mohan on Sunday stated that the people would not forgive the rebel MLAs, who voted in favour of the No Confidence Motion introduced by the Telugu Desam Party against Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

Talking to media persons, Kondru Murali said that the people of the respective constituencies would reject the 16 MLAs in the by-elections and they would suffer a humiliating defeat for voting in favour of the motion violating the party whip. The MLAs, who were elected on Congress tickets, have lost the moral right to seek votes for betraying the parent party and acting against its interests, he stated.

Stating that the Congress party would never forgive the rebel MLAs and initiate disciplinary proceedings, he said the party would meet Speaker Nadendla Manohar in a day or two to lodge a formal complaint against the MLAs. He also condemned YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy for instigating the MLAs for revolt. He said Jagan resorted to unethical politics by forcing the MLAs to violate the whip.

Murali said that Jagan do not deserve respect merely for the reason that he is the son of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He said it was wrong on the part of Jagan to even dream that he would be given the Chief Minister's post after his father's death.

Tightrope walk begins for Cong. Govn.

    2011/8/21 21:57:08

The resignations by Jagan followers come as a big blow to Congress party. The only one wise decision taken during the last one year by Congress party is dissolving PRP into it. This gave it a life support to keep afloat for a while.

The total number of MLAs in the state Assembly is 293 and the magic figure needed to stay in the power is 147. The present strength of Congress party including its allies parties is 155. With 27 MLAs leaving now it will 128.

After Jagan’s supporters withdrawing their support to the ruling Congress Government in the state it is still having 17 PRP, 7 Majlis and 3 independents MLAs in its side. (17+7+3=27) It means Congress still has the exact number of MLAs in its side and thus enjoys the confidence of the house.

However, it will be unbalanced and fall apart if its Telangana MLAs really want to sacrifice for the Telangana cause. Then, not even Chiranjeevi can save the Government.

Now, the tightrope walk begins for Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Government.

    Cong.& Jagan behind First-time MLAs

2011/8/29 3:54:36 The Congress party has foiled an attempt by Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy to lure over a dozen first-time MLAs to his fold. Sources say that Jagan was trying to lure the Congress and PRP MLAs asking them to join his camp by resigning from the posts.

The Congress on Monday held a meeting of 19 MLAs including nine MLAs who were originally elected on PRPs ticket at the Congress Legislature Party office in the assembly premises. Though no senior leader attended the meeting, sources say that the MLAs were briefed about the political tactics Jagan's camp might use to lure them. They have been asked not to get attracted with the offers that the opposition usually makes for horse-trading. Since most of the first-time MLAs are quite young, they have been told not to make the political mistake of their career, which has just begun.

The meeting was attended by MLAs P Ramesh Babu, Ch Venkata RAmamiah, N Srinivas Rao, Vanga Geetha, Srinivas, M Sridhar Krishna Reddy, A Rambabu, K Ramreddy, Anil Kumar, A Krishna Mohan, M Vijaya Prasad, B Usha Rani, Jogi Ramesh, U Narasimha Reddy and Mutyala Papa among others.

Although there was no official briefing about the purpose of the meeting, but the media was told that the first-time MLAs discussed the common problems that they have been facing in their constituencies. Later, the MLAs also met the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asking him to pay attention to the problems in their constituencies. They demanded that the welfare programmes like Rachabanda must be held in their constituencies more frequently. The Chief Minister has reportedly assured them of all the support and help. (INN)

Jagan dares Cong to disqualify rebel MLAs

2011/12/6 12:53:50 YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday dared the Congress party to disqualify the MLAs who voted in favour of No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

Talking to reporters at his residence after holding a meeting with the MLAs, Jagan asked the Congress party to disqualify all 16 MLAs at once, instead of playing further politics. He said his party and MLAs were ready to face by-elections and would ensure a repeat of Kadapa and Pulivendula results in all the constituencies. "We will go the people and we are ready for by-polls," he said.

Jagan appreciated the MLAs who voted in favour of the motion despite knowing that they would be disqualified for their action. He said the MLAs have created history and have a displayed a great character. "I'm proud to be associated with them," he said.

The Kadapa MP alleged that the ruling party have tried all means to stop the MLAs supporting the YSR Congress from voting against the Government. "Payakaraopeta MLA Babu Rao was threatened that he would be killed in a fake encounter and another MLA Sucharita was warned that a CBI enquiry would be ordered against her husband," Jagan alleged stating that despite such threats the MLAs have not supported the government.

Speaking about the discussions on No Confidence Motion, Jagan said that although Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu introduced the motion on farmers' issue, his speech was directed at criticising his late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Further, most of the leaders did not speak about the problems being faced by distressed farmers and used the occasion to settle their political scores. (INN)

22 Cong MLAs at fast site

2010/12/21 14:26:30 Former MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy sought to put up a show of strength by parading 22 MLAs, three MLCs and an MP of Congress -- the party he left early this month -- at his hunger-strike site in Vijayawada.

With party MLAs publicly sitting with Jagan at the fast site on the banks of river Krishna, it was being seen in political circles here as a challenge to the party high command to take action against those who sided with him.

"The party high command will look into it and take an appropriate decision," Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman N Tulasi Reddy told PTI.

Leaders in Jagan camp claimed the number of MLAs would swell to at least 40 by tomorrow while another MP is also expected to join his former Lok Sabha colleague at the site.

Jagan is holding a 48-hour hunger strike demanding more compensation for compensation to farmers who had lost their crops in heavy rains early this month in Andhra Pradesh.

TRS slams TD, Cong MLAs for 'losing opportunity'

2011/12/6 12:57:56 The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Tuesday criticised the Congress MLAs from the Telangana region for voting against the No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao said that the MLAs of Praja Rajyam Party and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen have bargained with the Congress Government to extend support to defeat the No Confidence Motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party. However, he said that the Congress MLAs from the region have missed the opportunity and failed to get any assurance on the Telangana statehood issue. "Why did they surrendered themselves before the Congress High Command?," he asked

Questioning the silence of Telangana Congress MLAs Tarakarama Rao said that the MLAs could have easily bargained for withdrawal of cases against the Telangana activists besides getting an assurance from the High Command on the statehood issue. However, without asking for anything, they simple voted to save the government, he said.

The TRS MLA was also critical of Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu for not speaking anything on Telangana. He said, "During the discussion, Mr Naidu spoke about 15 different topics. But he deliberately skipped the most important topic of separately Telangana." The TDP's Telangana MLAs, especially M Narasimhulu and Revanth Reddy enacted 'drama' by raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans in the assembly, he alleged.

Tarakarama Rao said that the people of Telangana region would teach a fitting lesson to both Congress and TDP MLAs for missing the opportunity to get an assurance on Telangana. (INN)

Gali asks Cong to hasten action against rebel MLAs

2011/12/9 12:53:29 The Telugu Desam Party on Friday asked the Congress party to explain as to when it would take action against its 16 MLAs who defied the whip in favour of YSR Congress party.

Addressing a press conference at the NTR Trust Bhavan, TDP deputy floor leader Gali Muddukrishanna Naidu suspected that the Congress might spare the rebel MLAs to avoid by-elections in the respective constituencies. He said that the Congress party should hasten the process of disqualification of its rebel MLAs, if it was serious.

Muddukrishnamma Naidu said that the TDP would sweep the by-elections as the people were fed up with the politics of both the Congress and YSR Congress party.

The TDP leader also alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the alleged illegal assets of Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has slowed down ever since he visited Delhi. He suspected that Jagan might broker a fresh deal with the Congress party using the rebel MLAs. In order to avoid or win the by-polls, the Congress might loosen the CBI's noose around Jagan in illegal assets case, he said. (INN)
