TDP leader, 3 others killed in road mishap



Four persons, including a TDP leader, were killed on the spot and one more person sustained injuries when a car collided head-on with a lorry near Panyam in Kurnool district on Wednesday wee hours.

According to Panyam Circle Inspector Sreenivas Reddy, the mishap took place when the car, heading towards Hyderabad from Kadapa district, collided head-on with a lorry proceeding from Kurnool to Nandyal in the opposite direction. All the persons who died were travelling in the Innova car and they died on the spot.

The victims all belonged to Kadapa district.

They have been identified as Kadapa Telugu Desam Party leader Machireddy Venkataswamy (50), Madanmohan Reddy (45), Mohd Sheriff (30), and a student Vinay Kumar Reddy (21).

Madanmohan Reddy was driving the ill fated car when the mishap took place. The regular driver of the car, Chitti Babu was left injured. He was described as being out of danger.

Machireddy Venkataswamy had recently contested as TDP candidate in the Legislative Council elections from Kadapa. He was also a lawyer.

The victim bodies have been shifted to Government General Hospital in Nandyal for post-mortem.

    Three killed, six injured in road mishap

    2012/1/27 10:12:11 In a ghastly road mishap, three persons were killed on the spot and six others injured at Bakarapeta in Siddampeta mandal in Kadapa district on Friday.

    According to police, the accident occurred when a jeep had a head-on collision with a tractor near Bakarapeta in the wee hours of Friday. The bodies have been shifted to the Government Hospital in Kadapa for post-mortem. The identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained. The condition of all the injured is stated to be serious.

    According to police, the mishap took place due to negligent driving of jeep driver, against whom a case has already been registered. (INN)

    2012/1/19 11:11:09 Six people were killed on the spot and seven others sustained injuries in a road mishap near Gummallakunta in Anantapur district in the wee hours of Thursday.

    The mishap took place when a private bus heading towards Hyderabad from Coimbatore lost control and hit a stationary lorry near Gummallakunta. The collision was so intense that the front portion of the bus got complete damanged. The deceased include bus driver Yesupadam, conductor Anand, two Ayyappa devotees and two women.

    The injured passengers have been shifted to RTC Hospital at Battanapalli. The condition of two injured persons is said to be critical and they have been shifted to the Government Hospital in Dharmavaram.

    Police have registered a case and efforts are on to identify the deceased. (INN)

    Karnataka HC judge killed in road mishap

    2012/5/19 6:47:28 Anantapur/Kadapa, May 19 (INN): In a ghastly road mishap, a Karnataka High Court judge was killed and three other members of his family suffered serious injuries here on Saturday.

    According to police, the mishap occurred at around 11:30 am near Odulapalli village under Talupula police station limits in Anantapur when the car in which the judge, Justice Govindarajulu (56), was travelling along with his wife and two sons, turned turtle. The car driver is suspected to have lost control of the vehicle while the judge's family was proceeding from Bangalore to a relative’s house in Proddatur when the accident took place, between Kadiri and Pulivendula.

    Justice Govindarajulu, his wife and sons were administered first aid in a private clinic in Pulivendula and rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Kadapa in an ambulance. However, the Judge succumbed to injuries, while his wife and sons are said to be in a serious condition, according to Kadapa Superintendent of Police M K Sinha.

    Six killed as bus rams into auto

    2011/6/3 9:44:19 Six persons, including three women and one child, were killed on the spot and five others sustained injuries when a State Road Transport Corporation bus collided with an auto-rickshaw near Chittiboinapalli in Chittoor district on Friday.

    According to Gurramkonda police, the mishap took place when the RTC bus, heading towards Gurramkonda from Rayachoti rammed into the auto-rickshaw heading towards Cheruvulapalli from Gurramkonda mandal.

    All the six persons who were on board the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot. The mishap left five others with grievous injuries.

    The victims have been identified as N Reddymma (29), A Santhareddy (34) A Venkatamma (40), C Jyothi (15) and M Ramaiah (60). The identity of one victim was yet to be ascertained.

    All the victims have been shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for post-mortem. Among the injured, the condition of a few is stated to be critical.

    Four Telugus killed in US road accident

    2011/10/24 2:20:26 Four Telugu people were killed in a road mishap which took place near Detroit area in Southfield City in the United States of America in the wee hours of Sunday.

    The victims have been identified as Satyendra Akula (30), native of Bhimavaram, Sumant Rajan (32) of Visakhapatnam, Venkatachalam Pasala (28) of Tadepalligudem and his father-in-law Rajendra Prasad Jonnala (50).

    According to delayed reports, the mishap took place when they were returning from Detroit downtown and travelling on M-10 near I-696, a person who was driving on the wrong way came and hit their SUV causing both cars burst into flames at 4:15 AM on Sunday. All the four persons died on the spot when the car caught fire in the fatal crash.

    The Southfield Police are investigating the case to get more details if drunken driving was responsible for the gruesome accident. Satyendra, Sumant and Venkatachalam were working as IT Consultants in Detroit. (INN)

    Three killed in quarry mishap, CM orders probe

    2012/4/25 3:23:49 Hyderabad/Visakhapatnam, April 25 (INN): Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday directed the Visakhapatnam District Collector to order probe into the mishap at a quarry in Singanapalli in which three persons were killed and eight others sustained injuries.

    The Chief Minister directed the District Collector to monitor all rescue and relief operations at the quarry of colour stones and provide better medical facilities to all the injured in the hospitals. He also directed the District Collector to order a probe into the mishap and submit a report to him.

    According to reports, three labourers killed in the mishap when the earth caved in at Singanapalli in GK Street in Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Sankara Rao, Balaiah and Balanna. Two persons were still missing and eight others sustained severe injuries.

    The police and fire personnel have been pressed into service to rescue the people from debris.

    Seven Ayyappa devotees killed in road mishap

    2011/12/5 7:28:31 At least seven Ayyappa devotees were killed on the spot and two others sustained injuries when the Tata Qualis vehicle they were travelling in collided with a tourist bus near coming from the opposite direction near Salem in Tamil Nadu on the wee hours of Monday.

    According to Salem police, the victims have been identified as Eedhana Srinivasa Rao, Marella Ramakoteswara rao, Pachibandla Raghupati rao, Bandarupalli Ratnakar Rao, Boda Raghu and Sajjala Srininu. Among the victims—four belonged to Narsaraopeta and three hailed from Satulur in Nadendla Mandal in Guntur district. The injured have been identified as Das and Seshagiri. Their condition is said to be critical.

    The police have shifted the bodies to Government Hospital in Salem for post-mortem.

    According to police, the mishap took place near Salem district when the Ayyappa devotees were heading to Sabarimalai in Kerala as part of Deeksha in their Qualis vehicle. (INN)

    2012/5/1 7:02:22 Kurnool, May 1 (INN): At least nine persons were killed on the spot when a Toyota Qualis had a head on collision with an oil tanker near Velugodu Reservoir in Kurnool district on Tuesday.

    According to police, the victims include four women and a girl child. The victims belonged to a village near Bengaluru of Karnataka. The identity of victims is yet to be ascertained, police said. A few others, who were injured in the mishap, were shifted to Government Hospital in Velugodu.

    According to police, the mishap took place when the Qualis car heading from Velugodu to Atmakur in the Nallamalla forests in the Kurnool district had a head-on-collision with an oil tanker.

    An unidentified woman fell into the valley in Tirumala. The mishap occurred when the woman who was on her way by foot to Tirumala slipped and fell into the valley.

    The mishap occurred near the first ghat road near Avvachary kona. The pilgrims who noticed this immediately informed the TTD authorities. The fire brigade and other rescue personnel have reached the spot and are trying to rescue the woman.

    2011/9/21 2:02:20 One auto-rickshaw driver was killed and several others injured when they were hit by a RTC bus after the driver lost control due to the failure of breaks.

    The mishap occurred on Wednesday morning at Krishna Nagar near Yousufguda crossroads. According to police, the bus driver lost control due to break failure and hit the auto-rickshaw and other vehicles parked on the roadside.

    According to police, the deceased has been identified as Mallesh. The police have shifted all injured to Osmania General Hospital and their condition is stated to be out of danger. The mishap took place when the RTC bus was heading towards Kondapur from Secunderabad.

    Irked over the incident, the local people stoned the bus. The bus driver went absconding after the accident from the scene.

    According to sources, the bus driver was hired on temporary basis due to the RTC employees participating in the general strike.     2011/8/21 10:52:33 Two persons including a woman were killed in a gruesome road accident at at Lingojigudem in Choutuppal mandal in Nalgonda district in the wee hours of Sunday.

    The deceased, later identified as Manemma and Srinu, were daily labourers in a local factory and hailed from Kondanagulu village in Palamur mandal in Mahbubnagar district. They met with the accident when a speeding Volvo bus, proceeding from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, hit them while they were crossing the road.

    According to the police, Manemma died on the spot while Srinu succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. The police have registered a case and started investigations. (INN)

    Over 100 transformers gutted in fire mishap

    2011/11/24 8:57:17 In a major fire mishap, 100 transformers were burnt at the Transco power sub-station at Gunadala here on Thursday.

    The mishap is believed to have occurred due to short circuit in a transformer which supplies power to the sub-station. Due to the presence of dry grass and trees in the sub-station, the fire spread instantly and other transformers, which were brought for repairs, in the sub-station also caught fire.

    It took more than three hours for several fire tenders from Gunadala and Vijayawada to extinguish the fire. The officials said that at least 100 transformers were completely burnt in the mishap. The loss to the property is yet to be ascertained. However, the officials said the loss may be of several lakhs of rupees. (INN)

    Two killed in road accidents

    2011/10/19 9:16:02 A 22-year-old youth died on the spot after he was run over by a RTC bus on the NH-7 bus stop here on Wednesday.

    The deceased was later identified as Ashok, a resident of Kullapadka village. He was employed as a security guard with the NIRD. According to Shamshabad police, the accident happened when Ashok fell on the road after being hit by a speeding bike near the NH-7 and then run over by the RTC bus. The bike rider also sustained serious injuries in the accident.

    In a separate case of hit and run, a 45-year-old man was killed when the bike he was riding was hit by unknown vehicle near Shivarampally on Wednesday.

    According to Rajendranagar police, the deceased Syed Shahnawaz, a lineman of electricity department and resident of Hasan Nagar, was killed while he was returning home from Shivarampally. A case has been registered and investigations are on. (INN)

    TDP leader Kuppatralla killed in faction war

    2008/5/17 6:06:41 The ugly faction war raised its ugly head once again in Kurnool district. The TDP leader Kuppatralla Venkatappanaidu was killed in a planned attack on his Sumo by his rivals this morning at Bodanuru near Kurnool.

    His sumo was first hit by a lorry and later some armed persons are reported to have hurled bombs on his vehicle. Venkatappanaidu and eight others were killed in the attack

    Venkatappanaidu was a well known faction leader in the Kurnool region. He has so far survived more than a dozen attacks on him. The attack is said to be the handwork of V Padma and her followers.

    The rivalry between Padma and Kuppatralla dates back to over three decades. Kuppatralla is said to have killed Padma's brother and driven Padma away from the village. Padma returned to the village recently with the help of congress party leaders like Kotla Surya Pakash Reddy.

    Two injured in gas tanker mishap

    2011/8/30 11:25:56 Two persons sustained injuries when a gas tanker turned turtle near bypass junction on National Highway No 5 at Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district on Tuesday.

    According to Anakapalle police, the gas tanker heading towards Visakhapatnam from Rajahmundry overturned near bypass junction at Anakapalle injuring the driver and cleaner of the tanker. Fortunately, a major mishap was averted as the gas in tanker was not leaked.

    Following the accident, the traffic came to standstill on the national highway and it took lot of time for the police to clear the road. The police diverted traffic on other routes to ease congestion. Both the injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment and they are said to be stable. (INN)

    Five labour from AP killed in Mumbai

    2011/9/29 7:42:12 Five labourers were killed and six others were injured in a building mishap here on Thursday. All the deceased and injured hailed from Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

    The incident happened at around 3.30 pm on Thursday when the labourers fell down from the 11th floor after a bamboo scaffolding of a building Siddhivinayak Towers in the Mumbai suburb of Bhayandar, collapsed.

    The deceased have been identified as Raju, M Govind, M Naresh, Machappa and Chinappa. They were natives of Kernapally and Chetnapally of Mahabubnagar district. Originally they are farmers, but have migrated to Mumbai as labourers about 15-days ago. (INN)
