TDP prepares to give tough fight to Congress in LB polls
Even as the state government is awaiting a High Court’s ruling on the conducting of elections to Local Bodies, the main opposition party, the Telugu Desam Party has announced that it aims to give a tough fight to the Congress and capture as many seats as possible.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday told media persons after launching a two-day workshop `Medho Madana Sadasu’ at NTR Trust Bhavan, that the party has decided to appoint one in-charge each for all Assembly constituencies and two in-charges for each Parliamentary constituency in the state as part of the party’s measures to ensure its win.
The TDP chief also demanded that the government implement reservation to Backward Class communities in the local bodies based on their population. “If needed, the government should amend the law to increase their quota in local bodies,” Mr Naidu demanded.
He further alleged that former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had diverted the funds released for the SC/STs development to other programmes.
The TDP chief also called upon his party cadre to make concerted efforts for strengthening the party at grassroots level to effectively take on the ruling party in the impending local body elections.
Claiming that the Telugu Desam Party is the only alternative to the Congress in the state, Mr Naidu revealed that the `Medho Madana Sadasu’ has discussed how to strengthen party and future course of agitation to be adopted on public issues.
He said the party has dedicated to take up agitations on public issues at state level, besides seeking the support of National level parties.
Slamming the Bharatiya Janata party for its failure in functioning as effective Opposition at National level, Mr Naidu said due to its inefficiency, the Congress party has involved in rampant corruption.
The meeting was attended by prominent party leaders including Telangana Forum Convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao, senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Nandamuri Harikrishna, MPs, MLAs, politburo members and district in-charges.(INN)

He now has to plan the strategy to counter the TRS blitzkrieg over the issue of separate Telangana. The EC has announced the dates for the by polls today.
The biggest challenge before D Srinivas is about how to proceed. He will have a tough time in the selection of candidates too. Many senior congress leaders from Telangana like Venkatawamy and MSR are of the opinion that the congress should not field any candidates but leave the filed open to the TRS.
The by polls are like a mini general elections. They will give a clear indication about which way the wind is blowing and could lead to political realignments for the next assembly elections.
2008/4/17 14:41:50 The Telugu Desam Party chief Chandra Babu Naidu is very optimistic about the chances of the TDP in the ensuing by polls. He says that the fight would be mainly between the TRS and the TDP. The congress party is nowhere in the picture.

Venkaiah Naidu predicts anti-Congress wave across the country
2012/4/19 2:31:19 Hyderabad, April 19 (INN): BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said that the people of the country were fed up with the anti-people policies of the Congress party.
Talking to media persons at NKM Gardens, Naidu attributed the victory of BJP in the Delhi and Mumbai Corporation elections to a country-wide wave against the Congress party. He said that rampant corruption, rising prices of essential commodities and anti-people policies of United Progressive Alliance-II Government were responsible for the Congress debacle in the elections.
In the local body elections, Venkaiah Naidu said that the people have rejected the Congress as only BJP could provide stable and efficient administration. He hoped that the BJP would repeat the same performance in the ensuing elections and give a tough fight to ruling Congress party.
Stating that the Prime minister Dr Manmohan singh has become ‘mute spectator’ and not responding on people’s issues, he said that the time has come for the people of the country to reject the Congress in the elections. He alleged that the UPA-II government has totally failed on all fronts and corruption has increased manifold during its regime.
Rejecting the media reports that there were better prospects for the formation of Third Front as an alternative in the country, he said that the BJP would give tough fight to Third Front allies in the States in the ensuing general elections.
The BJP leader also came down heavily on the State Government for its failure to implement the recommendations of Swamynathan Committee to upgrade the lives of farmers. He said that the government would face people’s wrath for showing discrimination towards non-Congress ruled States in releasing funds.
2011/12/17 2:05:45 Handlooms and Textiles Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Friday stated that the Congress leaders in the state should not oppose the decision taken by the Congress High Command of taking action against the 16 rebel MLAs who defied the party whip during the No Confidence Motion.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, Shankar Rao claimed that the Congress party was capable of winning the by-elections. He condemned the media reports which stated that the Congress was weak to fight the YSR Congress party in the constituencies which might go for by-polls. He expressed confidence that the Congress party would win all the constituencies with huge margins.
The Congress party would go to polls on the plank of Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s leadership skills and the welfare schemes launched by the government for the benefit of poor and middle class, he stated.
However, he said it would be too premature to talk about the by-elections as the decision of disqualification of MLAs was still pending with Speaker Nadendla Manohar. (INN)
The just concluded by polls were by far the most interesting and bitterly contested by polls ever in the state. It is none other than the big separate Telangana issue that was the main reason behind the by polls. For KCR, these polls are a do or die battle. The future of KCR as well as that of the TRS hinges on the results of the by polls.
The exit polls have not exactly pleased KCR. Even the pre-poll surveys reported that the TRS was sure to lose some seats.
According to the exit poll results, the TRS may retain about 10 assembly seats from the 16 that it held before the by polls. Out of the four Lok Sabha seats, the TRS is ahead in two and neck and neck in the third seat. So here also, the TRS is set to lose one or two seats.
The ruling congress is expected to bag anywhere between three and four assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat. Even the TDP is expected to romp home with two or three assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat.
The counting will begin at 8.00 a.m. on Sunday and the results will be out in about two hours time, i.e.by 10.00 a.m. Till then the guessing game continues and the leaders are all tensed up.
2008/4/16 8:05:13 The election commission has finally drawn up the schedule for the by polls to the seats vacated by the TRS and for Khairatabad where the vacancy has been caused by the untimely death of PJR. The polls will be held on May 29. The nomination process will commence from March 2. The results will be announced on June 1.
So it is going to be a 'really hot' summer this year. The congress party and the TDP have only something to gain but nothing much to lose. The polls are an acid test for KCR as the onus of getting all the MLAs and MPs who resigned recently elected once again rests on him. There is a strong resistance to some of the candidates from within the party.
2011/9/10 7:45:48 The 20-point programme chairman N Tulasi Reddy clarified that the Congress party was yet to decide on whether or not to field a candidate in the Banswada by-election.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Tulasi Reddy said that the party would take decision at an appropriate time regarding Banswada by-polls. He was apparently trying to counter the Telangana Congress Steering Committee's decision to boycott the Banswada by-polls. With this statement, he tried to clarify that the Steering Committee's decision was not official and the party high command would take its own decision on the issue.
Banswada seat fell vacant after MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy quit the TDP to join Telangana Rashtra Samithi. For by-polls Pocharam will be the official candidate of TRS and with the Telangana sentiments running high, it is being assumed that all parties including the TDP, BJP and Congress together would ensure his unanimous election. (INN)
Chief minster YS Rajashekar Reddy said that the congress was very confident of doing very well in the ensuing by polls. He also expressed confidence that the congress will also win a majority of the seats in Telangana.
YS said that the by polls were not a referendum on separate Telangana. He however agreed that there was some sentiment in the region and the congress party was aware of it and also respects it.
Telangana Congress party MPs seems to be determined to give a tough fight to their party high command by disobeying the party whip issued to them for attending the voting on Lokpal Bill and on the inflation in the Parliament. All the MPs except Suresh Shetkar abstained from the voting, thus attracting the disciplinary action. All the T MPs have met at K.Kesav Rao’s residence today and decided not to withdraw their resignation letters at any cost. They said they will meet again to discuss whether to support the indefinite strike by the Government employees or not. However, they will support the agitations run by all the other parties and organizations for Telangana cause.
The absence of Sonia Gandhi in capital may also affect the negotiations between Ghulamnabi Azad and T leaders and the delay in taking any decision about Telangana may worsen the situation of T Congress leaders.
2012/4/4 18:02:55 After, Chidambaram made it clear that any decision on Telangana will be taken only after he receives the opinion of State Congress party and TDP, T-JAC lead by Prof. Kodhandaram has decided to aim their guns on the both. During a recent meeting held by T-JAC, it has asked both the parties to clearly reveal their stand on Telangana before April 24th or else it is going to target them.
Since, the exams are also completing, T-JAC has decided to restart the Telangana agitations from April 10th onwards. The first phase of the agitation will continue till April 20th. During this stage, it will conduct programs in all the 10 districts of Telangana region and prepares the people for the ultimate fight for Telangana.
Congress will not win a single seat in by-polls: Ambati
2011/8/28 8:48:07 YSR Congress Party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu on Sunday claimed that the Congress party would not win a single seat in the by-polls that would be held after acceptance of resignations submitted by 26 Congress MLAs.
Talking to reporters, Ambati said he would quit politics if Congress wins even a single seat. He challenged the PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana to do the same if YSR Congress wins even a single seat in the by-polls. He said the Congress leaders were levelling baseless allegations of corruption against Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy to defame him and YSR family. He said the Congress leaders were resorting to revenge politics after Jagan quit the Congress party.
Ambati ridiculed the statements made by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu against corruption. He said the entire state knew that Naidu amassed wealth illegally by favouring corporates during his tenure as the Chief Minister. If Naidu is really honest, then he must tell the CBI that it was he who allotted land to Emaar properties for the first time, he said.
The YSR Congress party spokesman also refuted the allegations that Jagan Mohan Reddy was indulging in horse-trading. He said the Congress MLAs have joined the Jagan camp out of their love for YSR and his family. Unlike many Congress leaders, the pro-Jagan MLAs feel indebted that it was YSR who brought back the Congress party to power for two consecutive terms. (INN)

In a letter addressed to both the Congress and TRS, Forum's convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that all political parties together can build pressure on the Centre to announce statehood of Telangana by boycotting the by-elections. He demanded that the both the parties withdraw their candidates from the fray.
It may be mentioned that the TRS has fielded Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and the Congress has nominated Srinivas Goud as its candidates for the by-polls and both of them have already filed their nomination papers. The TDP is yet to announce its stand for the by-elections. In 2009, the Banswada assembly seat was won by the TDP. However, its MLA Pocharam Srinivas resigned from the party and the post to join the TRS, necessitating the by-polls.
However, Dayakar Rao said that the TDP would wait for the response from the Congress and TRS on his request till Monday noon and then the party would take a final decision regarding Banswada by-polls. (INN)
2011/9/15 7:51:01 Congress MLAs G Ramana and Lingaiah on Thursday asked the party High Command to reconsider its decision to field a candidate in the Banswada by-elections.
Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office, Ramana said that the Congress had a bad experience in the recently held by-elections in the Telangana. Therefore, the Congress must avoid repeat of last by-polls by not fielding its candidate from the Banswada seat. However, he said the Congress leaders would abide by whatever decision the High Command takes.
Further, Ramana said that the Congress' participation in the Banswada by-polls would send wrong signals in the entire Telangana region. Therefore, all Congress leaders from Telangana region should convince the High Command to reconsider its decision, he said. (INN)
2008/5/27 7:16:24 Surprised by the figures? Well, these are the numbers being brandied about by the TRS, Congress and the TDP. The three parties are now fighting it out bitterly to win s many seats as possible in the ensuing by polls.
The TRS is facing an uphill task; it is fighting with its back to the wall. The party went into the polls challenging that it would win back all the 16 assembly seats and the 2 parliament eats. But the ground reality today is quite different.
By the very conservative estimates of their own party leaders, the TRS is expected to bag about 12 assembly seats and 2 parliament seats. The Congress and the TDP are better placed comparatively as they have nothing to lose and only everything to gain.
The congress is hoping of wresting 7 assembly and 2 parliament seats while the TDP is confident of bagging 6 assembly and 2 parliament seats.
Meanwhile the campaigning has come to an end this evening. The polling will take place on May 29 and the results will be out on June 1.
With two successive hits like 'Devadasu' and 'Pokiri', Ileana has become one of the heroines who demand the highest remuneration. She is reportedly demanding Rs 75 lakh per each film. Though the producers are coming forward to pay that much, her dates were not available for about a year. Hence they started searching for a new face and Mamata Mohandas has become the hot favourite.
She got an opportunity to play with two top heroes like Nagarjuna and NTR even before the release of her first film. This shows that Mamata is all set to give a tough fight to Ileana. This slim Malayali girl had paired up with Suresh Gopi in a Malayalam film which was dubbed and released in Telugu as 'Pokiri Pilla' and many heroes were reportedly stunned at the way she exposed her glamour and recommended her name to producers. Even before the release of 'Pokiri Pilla', she made her entry into the Telugu film industry as a singer with a song 'Rakhee… Rakhee… Rakhee… Naa Kawasaki…'
She was chosen by Rajamouli for his forthcoming flick 'Yamadonga' opposite NTR. Possibly this is her first straight Telugu film. After this, Mamata gave green signal for 'Don' of Nagarjuna. Mamata bagged this chance after Ileana and Trisha could not provide the dates for the director.
